  • Anya and Otto are extremely resourceful and were able to provide us with very good and appropriate recommendations for our family during our stay in Ojochal. The location is wonderful! They are next door to a French bakery, around the corner from a grocery store, near an amazing waterfall, close to remarkable beaches, and down the street from lots of restaurants. We appreciated their very good directions and homemade maps of the area. They pointed out places and activities that we never would have found on our own. They are very direct and were able to provide us with honest advice about everything. They know a lot about Costa Rica. They kindly upgraded us to the cabins and we were happy to have stayed there. There were two separate rooms (one with a closed door) and a "dining room/kitchen" space. There is a little kitchen in the cabins and we cooked most days/nights. There is also laundry available which was quite convenient. Anya immediately let us use a high chair for our baby which was also very helpful. The only thing I can say is that if you have a toddler - you have to be very careful around the pool and around the deck area of the cabins. I also wished that there was more of a communal space where you could regularly talk to other travelers. I wish that you could have a coffee at any time in the common space. We were there during the low season so it's possible it's more like that during busier times.

  • Hotel El Mono Feliz is a delightful little hotel up in the jungle, just beware if you are not an early riser, room #1 is beside the kitchen and breakfast starts at 7am.
Do not miss the jungle treehouse pizzeria next door, I was fortunate enough to be in there during an incredible rain downpour that lasted 2 hours.

  • Didnt enjoy the stay at Hotel El Mono Feliz. We arrive to find out that we had to pay an extra fee to use the airconditioner in the room. We were having a quiet been next to the pool and were told by the owner that we couldnt have any drinks next to the pool very rudely without any introduction at all by the guy. Very average stay do not recommend.

    Response from Otto:

the hygiene of our pool is very important to us. Therefore it is not allowed to consume food or beer in the pool. And that was happening. We are sorry that our guests had not well understood these basic rules.

  • Location and hosts were lovely. Sadly did not have time to enjoy it for longer. Bird table attracted interesting array of birds at breakfast time. Swimmable waterfall nearby and good sized pool. Only missing was a cotton sheet to go under the blanket and note that rate does not include breakfast. Otherwise, all good and excellent value.

    Response from Otto:

Thank you for your nice words. But the sheet was really there. The bed was made so nice and tight that you missed seeing it, you slept on top of it.....

  • Stayed one evening in July, and Otto and Anja were very welcoming hosts. They have a lovely little piece of property with beautiful flora and fauna all around. They will happily give you much information about the surrounding area and suggest things to do. Really wish we could have stayed a little longer, but we'll happily return someday!

We hope to see you back for a longer stay so you can spot the humpback whales with their babies along our coastline.

  • We had a lovely stay with Otto and Anja. They were great hosts and we enloyed out stay in Ojochal. Myself and my 10 year ols daughter went whalewatching from there. Lots of Dolphins, no whales. Our room was a little rustic as all the cabins were full. I would indeed stay there again.
    Thanks O and A.

  • A picturesque tropical garden location with lots of birds. Very quiet and tranquil. Facilities are immaculate with fresh towels and daily cleaning. I opted to upgrade to one of their cabanas which have more room, nice cross-ventilation, and a kitchenette. The nearby 'supermercado' is quite well stocked for making your own meals or there are several restaurants close by. Otto & Anja are great hosts and willing to offer lots of advice on local tours and attractions.
