La Bouchague is a very private, restful and pretty cottage for couples. Situated in a Pyrenean meadow at 300 metres with direct access to mountain or valley walks by day and star-filled night skies. No neighbors, streetlights, or noise but birdsong.

The Space

Surrounded by fields and forests, no streetlights to dim the stars at night, this one bedroom house with 750m2 fenced garden at the entrance of the Aspe Valley offers total privacy. Valley and mountain walks start from the door, 15 minutes to the market town of Oloron Sainte Marie, 20 minutes to the Jurancon vineyards, 40 minutes to a total change of scene across the boarder in Spain, Pau Airport and TGV station in 60 minutes, Biarritz airport, beaches in 90 minutes. Three ski resorts within 45-60 minutes.

Ideal for nature lovers, skiers, hikers, writers, photographers, cyclists. The Tour de France routinely passes within 3 km of the property.

Note: The cottage, La Bouchague was created from a barn adjacent to a farmhouse which is unoccupied but perfectly maintained. La Bouchage is truely tranquil with no neighbors, no street noise. A total escape: guests have told us "we have never been anywhere as peaceful and relaxed as La Bouchague".

Value
  • Lynn and Edward are very real and not automated at all :) As is the house, which is a wonderful stay and great value. This is a perfect location if you're looking to discover the Pyrenees, and like privacy, peace and quiet.

  • Très bon accueil de nos hôtes, gîte très agréable, au calme en pleine nature. Très bon séjour.

  • The gite is really cozy and quiet, full of character. The accommodation has everything you need, including a great big front yard and garden furniture to enjoy and relax outside.

We would recommend the stay anytime, perfectly located and connected while really quiet, great to visit Bearn, especially le vall du Aspe. Amazing landscape all around and charming medieval little villages; local food was also another highlight.

Lynn and her husband were really nice and welcoming, very attentive and helpful providing info and advice on local amenities and places of interest.

We're very glad you enjoyed the region and our gite. Thank you for your comments! There really are many splendid places to visit. So if you decide to return we would be happy to see you again.

  • We had a wonderful stay in this lovely little gite. It's a really peaceful spot with only the distant clanking of cow-bells to interrupt the bird-song as you look out across the rolling hills.
Lynn and Edward couldn't have been more helpful, even coming to meet us to go over some maps and giving great suggestions for driving and hiking.
And, if you're there on a clear night, do yourself a favour: turn off all the lights and go outside to enjoy the stars, you won't regret it.

  • We very much enjoyed our stay at Lynn & Edward's cottage! The little "gite" is the ideal accommodation for a quite and cozy vacation for people who love nature! From the cottage we drove app. 40 Minutes to access the hiking trails to spectacular destinations like Lac de Lhurs, Pas d' Osque, and Pic d'Ansabere. Thus, we can very much recommend their gite to people who like to hike, but still want a cozy and lovely accommodation. The gite is very well equipped, we especially loved the induction stove:-). A big plus: it is *very* quite: We slept like babies and enjoyed the fresh air and the faint cow-bell ringing when opening the window blinds in the morning.... Lynn and Edward are wonderful hosts, we very much enjoyed meeting them, and simply had a wonderful time there.

    Response from Lynn:

Thanks for being our guests Max and Anna. We loved getting to know you and having you as guests! We're impressed that you opted for the high mountain peaks accessed from the long drive up to Lescun! That means you've still got all the nearby peaks and territory in between to explore! Hope to see you again.

  • We had a great stay in this clam and "isolated" chalet. Our small son could finally scream and run without disturbing anyone. Once you learn the path (Edward picked us up and show it to us the first time) and do a couple of km by car you are in the middle of the valley and you can explore all the surroundings. Lynn and Edward gave us a great welcome and help with many tips about villages, restaurants and trekking paths.
We really recommend Lynn's cottage for a calm staying in the French Pyrenees mountains.

  • We had a great time in Lynn's cottage. Quiet, peaceful and strategically situated place, nice and cosy house, and, above all, very helpful hosts. Perfect for our well deserved holidays!! Absolutely recomandable.

  • La maison est très confortable, joliment décorée et parfaitement équipée.
La vue sur les montagnes est splendide. C'est un endroit très calme et reposant.

About
We have lived in the region since 2007 but continue to discover new mountain trails, wildflowers, villages, vineyards and restaurants. We've lived and worked in Asia, Europe and North America, Lynn in pharmaceuticals and Edward as a diplomat. We both love to meet new people and introduce them to our glorious region of southwest France and especially the Aspe Valley and Northern Spain. We offer tranquil surroundings in a stunning setting with complete privacy. We want you to feel at home.
