A modern, well-designed, designer cabin in a secluded and quiet forest. You will hear nothing but the birds and maybe a passing deer. This house is great for hunters during hunting season, foliage-hunters in Autumn, and anyone from the city or beyond looking for a quiet getaway anytime of the year.
You will have the entire house to yourself, with all modern amenities, including internet, electricity, a modern stove, new refrigerator, a partially-finished sauna, and two bedrooms--one in the loftspace above the living room and another quietly tucked away with western-facing windows. The downstairs bedroom is a great place to sleep in.
Huge windows in the living room and a fireplace make for a great peaceful atmosphere, or you can watch t.v. and just chill out with your friends.
Outdoors in a screenroom is a barbecue that you're free to use, plus a pond nearby and plenty of hiking.
I put that the house can handle 6, but really there's room for a lot of people--two in that back bedroom, two in the loft, and maybe 4-5 in the living room. Bring sleeping bags, or use one of the two beds available.
Everything you need--soap, towels--everything is ready for you.
We had a great time at this cabin, Michael was very helpful and responsive every time I needed something, I would definitely stay at one of Michaels properties again.
We had lovely time. The chalet is lovely and very calm. Ultra quiet and peaceful. Open and spacious, and perfect for a couple. Internet works well and is plenty fast. Michael had great communication prior to arrival.
Michael's cabin was perfect. I spent 5 nights there with my wife over the winter holidays. It's situated in a secluded area, with huge windows facing the rest of the property. This is the best quality, given that you get to privately enjoy the winter "wonderland" outside while sitting on a comfy couch, by a toasty wood furnace.
The pictures are a bit deceiving; the interior is very spacious and comfortable. The exterior has a beautiful wood deck wrapping two sides of the cabin. There's also a small gazebo with a heater outside, and a gas grill which worked great. Grilling in snowy weather was actually fun.
We really enjoyed Michael's cabin and it exceeded all of our expectations. I'm really glad I booked the cabin, regardless of the skewed impression I got from previous reviews. The kitchen is fully equipped, there's super-fast WIFI, and a huge flat screen hooked up to pretty nice sound system.
It's the perfect setting to relax, eat well and enjoy the beautiful landscape outside.
To start off with this place is diamond in the rough. It is centrally located in the Catskill area to a lot of hiking, etc, a great option for dog owners and if you want a somewhat rustic experience. The appliances are new, there is internet (albeit slow, 3mps), good sound system, nice screened in patio, it is quiet and the bed is comfortable. We made ourselves comfortable enough and the Catskills are beautiful. Michael is also very good at getting back to you quickly.
The down side:
* the place was filthy, not sure what we paid a cleaning charge for
* Bring your own linens - there were two bath towels, two hand towels and two wash clothes provided, that looked like they had been around for a very long time.
* Bedding - the mattress was comfortable, but not covered, the only sheet was a top sheet tucked into the side of the mattress and a comforter with a cover
*NOT secluded in the woods. it is close to the road and there are neighbors on both sides.
* kitchen - there is no microwave or toaster, the pans are in pretty bad shape
So the bottom line - a good place to stay with the understanding that it is not modern, it is a cabin that will serve you well if you are willing to clean it, bring most everything with you and the rate is reasonable, especially if you are a group of folks
So there you have my experience with the cabin and Michael.
The reservation was canceled 4 days before arrival. This is an automated posting.
This is a great cabin to vacation in, but it does need to be kept up with more. I don't mind spider webs outside since you are in the woods but there were some indoors as well as lots of dust. Half the knives in the block had rust spots, the bath towels are really old and for some reason there were cooked shrimp in the freezer ice dispenser that made it through the chute with the ice cubes. Nice if you like a snack with your cold beverage.
Also there was a lot of half eaten food items in the fridge and clothes and other items in the closets that gave off a vibe of staying at someone's house not a rental property.
The back yard is big but so overgrown that you can't walk around without risking a fall.
The mattress in the bedroom is king sized and very comfortable, but the loft only has a bare air mattress.
The grill hasn't been cleaned in a while.
Overall the bathroom was clean and the shower was powerful but the shower caddy is half wood half rust. The washer and drier are pretty new.
It's a nice place and I would rent again but the owner really has to be around more to make sure the caretaker is doing their job. Honestly we left the cabin cleaner than we found it.
Please accept my apologies. We try very hard to keep the home as presentable as possible. Unfortunately, just before your arrival we had a guest trash the house. While the housekeeper did her best to prepare the place for your arrival, it appears that some things were overlooked (the refrigerator and freezer especially). If you do decide to stay with us again, please let me offer you a discount on your stay. Thanks again!
We loved staying at Michael's cabin so much we did not want to leave. It's a perfect retreat for a family or a couple, remote yet close to essential amenities. And Michael was a pleasure to deal with - a super quick communicator! Thanks for a great stay!
Wow, this place is amazing! I stayed in Michaels wonderful home for 5 nights and I loved every second of it. We were there recently in the sweltering heat and humidity of a North East Summer, but the shaded cabin, at which sits high in the Catskills is a refuge from both. It felt cool and with all the doors and windows open offered a cross breeze that smelt of cedar and the great outdoors. It was perfect.
The cabin is huge, it was just my girlfriend and I, but we had a couple of friends over for a night and could have easily have held 6-8 people if people bought sleeping bags and an air mattress.
The cabin is super secluded, setback from the road and well away from the neighbours, so its silent at nighttime. The deck is a wonderful place to sit out and look at the stars and enjoy a glass of wine as your favourite sounds play through the incredible speakers in the front room. The grill is situated right there too, and we used that every night to prepare our food as well as the well stocked, large and homely kitchen.
The bedroom at the back has a huge bed, is quiet, dark and incredibly comfortable. We slept like stones each night!
There were a lot of mosquitoes as it close to a nearby glen, stream and not far from a pond, so be warned, and take repellent, they are aggressive swines!
The house was well equipped and within easy distance to many amazing hikes, swimming holes, waterfalls and small towns for eating and a drink.
I would absolutely stay here again and will be telling friends about this incredible refuge that is just a couple hours drive away from the city. I can only imagine this place in the winter with the log burning fire raging and the frost on the deck.. Maybe I'll plan a visit back for then!
This place was incredible! Clean, quiet, peaceful. As a group of five adults, we were slightly concerned about space, but this was more than adequate for our needs. The shower was nice and hot with good pressure, the kitchen was reasonably stocked with cooking stuff, and Michael was quick to answer any question we had about the place and the general area. Overall, a terrific airbnb experience... one we can't wait to repeat!
I could not be more thrilled with the way this trip turned out. I went over a long weekend to unwind and get away from the city. Michael's cabin was well appointed, clean and beautiful. The windows let in tons of light during the day, and the deck was a blast to hang out on. He's got a grill (though I didn't use it), an awesome fireplace, huge cabin-filling speakers, and a great couch. A perfect getaway only 2.5 hours north of NYC.
