The cabin was exactly as portrayed in the photos and description. It is absolutely lovely, clean, and beautifully decorated an appointed. So comfortable and cozy! We loved having coffee on the deck in the morning, and our kids had a great time playing pool. Sherry made us feel very welcome and truly thought of everything. The kitchen contained everything we needed, and there were instructions for wifi, the hot tub and everything else. We truly enjoyed our stay at Willow Ridge.
Thank you for the nice review, Sarah! We would welcome you back anytime. Morning cups of coffee -- and evening glasses of wine -- on the deck are where you'll find us every day when we get to go and stay there, too. That driveway IS steep, isn't it? I was surprised when even my little rented Ford Focus made it up there. We do also keep a hefty supply of "Sno-Melt" available for our guests if they're there during inclement weather. And we always remind people who wish to rent in the winter: "This IS the mountains, and it's winter. Come at your own risk." :) Take care, and come again.
Shari was extremely responsive and prompt with all of her communications, and she was helpful and informative throughout the entire process, was truly pleasant to work with. Shari even supplied a box of toys for our children along with the requested pack and play and high chair during our stay which helped tremendously since it rained consistently during our stay.
The cabin itself was perfectly described and beautiful. We enjoyed the deck and mountain views immensely and the hot tub at night was greatly appreciated. Shari has the hot tub drained after each guest's stay (another plus!). The grill worked perfectly for us as we used it on our last two nights after the kids went to bed. Grilling, while watching the fireflies dance and overlooking the mountains was all we could want during our stay!
Only disappointing issues we had with the cabin were the rationing of necessities and the appliance's performance. With four adults and two toddlers, we went through the one roll of paper towels, two garbage bags, two dishwasher tablets, and two rolls of toilet paper fairly quickly. Understanding that other guests may "take" what they don't need, but we were disappointed that we had to purchase those necessities to get through 4 days and 3 nights. Lastly, the entry-level appliances made cooking, cleaning, and washing more tedious and time consuming than necessary and were enough a nuisance and frustrating enough to take away some of the enjoyability of the cabin itself.
All in all we had a wonderful time at the cabin and Shari was a great host, just maybe not as family-friendly of a cabin as we had expected. Probably best for couples without small children. Thanks!
Hi Don! Glad you had a good stay. We do clearly state on our listing that we don't provide *any* food or toiletries and that guests are responsible for purchasing all food and amenities (although we do provide a complimentary roll of paper towels, two toilet paper in each bathroom, soaps and shampoo in each bathroom, two packets of dishwasher detergent, and two packs of laundry detergent as a courtesy to our guests.) Before we owned our cabin, we stayed at many rental homes in the past where none of these items were provided, except one roll of toilet paper (as stated on their advertisements), and thus we made preparations at the grocery store to stock up on everything we might need.
I am so sorry the wi-fi reached its capacity and I wish you would have called me -- it would only have taken a 2-second switch for me to immediately provide you with additional wi-fi bandwidth. Apparently, the guests before you may have been using streaming video or something that sapped some of the data allowance. Since your stay, I have arranged to have my wi-fi provider notify me if there is a 75% "use" of available data so that I can immediately bump up our plan for guests.
I am disappointed that our appliances disappointed you. We do state very clearly our appliance inventory on our website -- not sure what "entry level" means other than perhaps they weren't top-brand names (?). We have an automatic-drip Mr. Coffee coffee pot with automatic/timer brew function and 2-hour auto-shut-off, a brand new Amana oversize above-range microwave which was just installed in April, a full-size GE dishwasher and a stackable GE washer/dryer, a GE refrigerator with auto ice maker, a full-size oven with a glass-top 5-burner stove (with a warming burner) -- those are all products which sufficiently service our family. I'm sorry to hear they were tedious or of a nuisance for you, and especially sorry to hear that they took away from your enjoyment of our cabin.
We hope you will visit us again; just let me know if you want to check in early before doing so this time. I understand it wasn't too much of an issue that you arrived early since our housekeeping staff happened to be onsite finishing up some things for your arrival. Thanks again for your stay!
I think perhaps of all my AirBNB stays so far, Sheri might be the most organized AirBNB host I've encountered! Even though I didn't meet her, everything was communicated promptly and clearly throughout the transaction, and I even received a 'welcome package' in the mail prior to departure.
The cabin is extremely nice, and has everything you could ask for while 'getting away from it all' out in the wilderness: rocking chairs on the porch, a nice kitchen, beautiful bedrooms, a wrap-around deck with a BBQ, satellite tv, the internet, a huge soaker tub, and even a pool table.
We managed to take in the amazing 'synchronous firefly event' at Elkmont campground (30 min drive) during our stay.
You are somewhat removed from the population at this cabin (which is what you want, right?) - so be sure to hit up a grocery store before you arrive.
There was even a bottle of wine waiting for us on arrival as a welcome gift!
The cabin was nicely decorated and felt very cozy. Sheri had notes near parts of the cabin so that you'd know how to use it: remote control for tv, internet password, and other tidbits of info. The community is very nice and the gated access was easy to go in and out of.
The gated community is nice and the cabin is great value. We enjoyed our stay. Sheri left us a bottle of wine that we enjoyed eating our steaks with.
We loved, loved, loved our stay at Willow Ridge! The cabin was spotless and so incredibly relaxing. What a quiet neighborhood and while there are other cabins nearby, you feel so secluded in this beautiful mountain retreat. Sheri was incredibly hospitable and available to answer all of my questions leading up to our stay. She even made sure that my young boys had a high chair, pack n play and toys. How sweet! The bottle of wine waiting for us was such a personal touch and we were more than happy to enjoy it by the fire. The adults weren't the only ones thrilled. My little people didn't want to leave! We made the drive to the Smokies while we were there, but would have been just as happy to stay put in the cabin the entire time. It was just what our family needed! Thank you Sheri!
We absolutely loved the cabin Golden Light, Morning Birds. It was so peaceful and private. The master bedroom is spectacular and we enjoyed the pool table and hot tub. We had everything we needed and with it being such a rainy weekend, when we stayed, the skylight upstairs in the master bedroom was wonderful. I would definitely stay again at this cabin.
When I saw the weather forecast for the time during your stay, I was bummed! But then I realized some of my most favorite times at the cabin are during inclement weather, since it's so peaceful and quiet there. I am glad to hear that you found things to do, and that you enjoyed your stay! Thanks for choosing Willow Ridge, Debra, and come back anytime.
About the Host, Sheri
We love the Smokies. Spending time at Willow Ridge is a treat we look forward to every single year. Willow Ridge gives us a chance to experience pure tranquility—from the time on the deck (morning, evening, and anytime we get a chance in between) to our afternoon motorcycle rides through sleepy, rolling back country roads of Wears Valley and the Great Smoky Mountain National Forest.
Willow Ridge is our retirement home. It's our future. And until we can find the time to be here full-time, we want to share it with you. A home this rich in character and amenities deserves to be enjoyed by people who can fill its golden sunlight-drenched afternoons with laughter, comfort, and peace.
