It's where you'll spend every waking minute—even in the winter, when the meticulously maintained spa is heated to the perfect temperature. And don't forget about the deck-side gas grill with side burner: you may never spend time inside!
The spacious upper-level master bedroom features vaulted ceilings and expansive views, along with an electric fireplace and wall-mounted flat-screen television. It's stocked with loads of cooking utensils any chef would admire, 4-slice toaster, auto-off coffee maker, and ample storage for your food. (Please note: due to food safety regulations, guests must provide their own groceries.) And did we mention the custom-formed pottery mugs for your morning coffee?
Sit comfortably at the farmhouse table and chairs with side bench, or at the open breakfast bar with a bird's-eye view into the pool room. And pack light, since all guests may use our onsite washer/dryer.
The living room features a floor-to-ceiling stacked-stone gas log fireplace and a huge flat screen television with DirecTV. Have a seat on our leather armchair and ottoman, or curl up on the leather sofa (with queen sleeper). Two glass doors open up to the wraparound deck, and massive windows give you views of the woodland mountain ridges all around.
Only the best would do in our gorgeous pool room perfect for those nights with a cold beverage and a healthy dose of competitive spirit. The AMF/Brunswick solid wood claw foot table provides the finest playing experience with slate top and ultra-smooth felt. I think perhaps of all my AirBNB stays so far, Sheri might be the most organized AirBNB host I've encountered! Even though I didn't meet her, everything was communicated promptly and clearly throughout the transaction, and I even received a 'welcome package' in the mail prior to departure.
The cabin is extremely nice, and has everything you could ask for while 'getting away from it all' out in the wilderness: rocking chairs on the porch, a nice kitchen, beautiful bedrooms, a wrap-around deck with a BBQ, satellite tv, the internet, a huge soaker tub, and even a pool table.
We managed to take in the amazing 'synchronous firefly event' at Elkmont campground (30 min drive) during our stay.
You are somewhat removed from the population at this cabin (which is what you want, right?) - so be sure to hit up a grocery store before you arrive.
There was even a bottle of wine waiting for us on arrival as a welcome gift!
The cabin was nicely decorated and felt very cozy. Sheri had notes near parts of the cabin so that you'd know how to use it: remote control for tv, internet password, and other tidbits of info. The community is very nice and the gated access was easy to go in and out of.
The gated community is nice and the cabin is great value. We enjoyed our stay. Sheri left us a bottle of wine that we enjoyed eating our steaks with.
We loved, loved, loved our stay at Willow Ridge! The cabin was spotless and so incredibly relaxing. What a quiet neighborhood and while there are other cabins nearby, you feel so secluded in this beautiful mountain retreat. Sheri was incredibly hospitable and available to answer all of my questions leading up to our stay. She even made sure that my young boys had a high chair, pack n play and toys. How sweet! The bottle of wine waiting for us was such a personal touch and we were more than happy to enjoy it by the fire. The adults weren't the only ones thrilled. My little people didn't want to leave! We made the drive to the Smokies while we were there, but would have been just as happy to stay put in the cabin the entire time. It was just what our family needed! Thank you Sheri!
We absolutely loved the cabin Golden Light, Morning Birds. It was so peaceful and private. The master bedroom is spectacular and we enjoyed the pool table and hot tub. We had everything we needed and with it being such a rainy weekend, when we stayed, the skylight upstairs in the master bedroom was wonderful. I would definitely stay again at this cabin.
When I saw the weather forecast for the time during your stay, I was bummed! But then I realized some of my most favorite times at the cabin are during inclement weather, since it's so peaceful and quiet there. I am glad to hear that you found things to do, and that you enjoyed your stay! Thanks for choosing Willow Ridge, Debra, and come back anytime.
There are many positive points about this cabin. Sheri, the owner, is very responsive and nice both by mail and on the phone; access and check-in instructions work absolutely fine; it is immaculate clean, peaceful and quiet; satellite TV and wi-fi is very good (it froze once, but there are detailed instructions on how to bring it back alive); appliances work properly; and having a computer available to surf the net while the kids monopolize the i-pad for gaming is a good thing. It is a cabin we can recommend for small families that want a silent retreat in the woods.
In order to help people make a better informed decision though, we'd like to point out some other aspects that may or not be relevant, depending on one's expectations. The cabin is well furnished and in mint condition - but it can't be defined as a "luxury retreat" as per its description. Another thing is that the cleanliness we mentioned before extends itself to the fridge and pantry - the house cleaning staff removes everything that might have been left by previous guests (but a bunch of teabags and coffee filters) so you have no option but immediately go to the market after checking in. One of the nice things we find about renting a house instead of going to a hotel is to come to an environment where other people actually live, cook, play, and that is not the feeling in this place. There is not even a placemat set for the table or a damp cloth for the sink. We have rented many vacation homes in the US and Europe and we have always found and left behind many durable food items for the next guests to enjoy. And finally, we were extremely annoyed by the distasteful note left in the so-called office cove, telling us not to steal the computer (!!); said note being in stark contrast with Sheri's otherwise kind behavior.
We were initially very excited to have another international guest at our cabin! He paid on time and was responsive to the check-in and check-out times. Our Housekeeping crew did not report any issues with his family's stay, and we are glad they were able to enjoy the United States -- albeit perhaps with different cabin rental traditions than he may be used to.
Unfortunately, we cannot stock groceries in our cabin for guests, a fact which is noted in all of our listings and reiterated in our Welcome Packet which is sent to guests 2-4 weeks before their stay -- this simply cannot be done in a short-term rental home due to food safety regulations and time lags between guest visits in slow seasons. Before we bought our cabin and decided to share it with others, we also rented many cabins in the area. Those experiences helped us to find out what was the norm and what would be "that little extra touch" that would make our cabin special -- like complimentary dishwasher and laundry soap, shampoo and conditioner and soap for the bathrooms, and extra bathroom tissue and towels for our guests.
We do leave little notes around our cabin to help guests with operating the television remotes, the wi-fi access information, the computer login access information, etc. We were disappointed that our tongue-in-cheek "please enjoy our little laptop computer while you're here, and even though it's not brand new, we hope it doesn't accidentally find its way into our guests' suitcases, wink-wink!" humor must have been lost in translation.
We care greatly about our visitors and go the extra mile to ensure everyone has a wonderful stay. It's disappointing that it was misinterpreted, as it is clearly not our intent to assume folks are "thieves," and can only assume it was due to a language barrier.
We've rented our cabin for two years now, and by the stellar reviews on this site and (website hidden), it is clear that we cherish our guests who choose our cabin for their vacation getaways and who clearly recognize the extra effort we apply to Willow Ridge. We have to accept that this was a very unique and out-of-character review by a guest who must have set different expectations than what was advertised and offered by our beautiful home and our hospitality.
Love this beautiful cabin! It was everything we expected and more!! From the beginning Sheri made us feel welcome and at home. There were toys for the kids and even a bottle of wine waiting for us to enjoy! We loved every second of our stay and can't wait to return! Thank you!
About the Host, Sheri
We love the Smokies. Spending time at Willow Ridge is a treat we look forward to every single year. Willow Ridge gives us a chance to experience pure tranquility—from the time on the deck (morning, evening, and anytime we get a chance in between) to our afternoon motorcycle rides through sleepy, rolling back country roads of Wears Valley and the Great Smoky Mountain National Forest.
Willow Ridge is our retirement home. It's our future. And until we can find the time to be here full-time, we want to share it with you. A home this rich in character and amenities deserves to be enjoyed by people who can fill its golden sunlight-drenched afternoons with laughter, comfort, and peace.
