The Space

Hi I'm Carmen,

I live in Dordrecht with my (8 year old) daughter and my 2 dogs. I work from home.

I have 2 rooms for you. The Monetroom (because there's a small painting from Monet in there) and the pink room (well, that's rather self explanatory). So even if my calender seems full, don't hesitate to shoot me an email to ask about the other room.

I try to live as ecofriendly and sustainable as I can. I've taken up the challenge to get my house as sustainable as I can make it.

I don't use my refrigerator anymore as it's really big and I use only very little space. So I use a coolingbag (I do have a freezer though that I use) that you can use as well.

I have a lovely house and I would like to share it more and at the same time meet interesting people from over the world.

You have you're own room with enough space for you and your bags.

You can use the kitchen to make your own breakfast, lunch and dinner. You will have your own place in the kitchen to store your food and drinks.

I have WIFI which you can use.

The kitchen, the bathroom and the toilet are all shared. I have 2 very nice dogs (one sheppard and one small pincher).

We're located nearby Trainstation Dordrecht Zuid, a busstation and the highway to and from Rotterdam and Breda.

We've also have 3 different (food)shopping areas nearby. You can take one of my bikes if you'd like.

We're strategically located nearby Belgium, Germany, Utrecht and Rotterdam. Dordrecht also lies next to the Biesbosch, which is a very large natural reserve area which you can visit and even camp in.

Interaction with Guests

I work from my livingroom from 9.00 am to 12.00 am and from 2.00 pm to 4.00 pm. During those times I would like to have the livingroom to myself. These times are not that rigid but it's very important to me to be able to work alone and in peace and quite.
When I'm done working you're more than welcome to spend time with me/us in the livingroom. Up untill now the kitchentable has been a meetingplace to sit, talk, eat and work from.

  • Wholesome family environment, just like home! Carmen her daughter Roos and their 2 dogs Lola & Dunya made me feel welcomed the moment I arrived. A peaceful non stress escape, that has cleansed my soul. Close enough to all major transportation, yet apart from all the hustle and noise of the cities. If you want to party this scene is not for you. But if you want to enrich your senses, Dordrecht, the oldest city in the Netherlands will amaze you; it is a journey back in time. Overall an excellent experience. Carmen has not seen the last of me.

  • Carmen is, I think, the most welcoming host I've ever had, and the home has charm. A pity the weather at the time (a wet November) didn't allow me to fully appreciate the dyke at the end of the garden (would have loved to sit out there discussing matters with passing ducks), but the charm of Dordrecht itself fully compensated.

  • I spent about ten days at Carmen's house in Dordrecht and had a great time. Carmen is a great host; her little girl is sweet and hilarious; and the dogs are fun to have around. I always enjoyed the evening conversations with Carmen and the other guests in the house, and at the same time, I could always have my privacy in my room when I wanted time to myself.

The house itself is small-ish and very cozy. There are some small snags, such as the bathroom sink that doesn't work so we had to brush our teeth at the kitchen sink and the fact that we had to store our food in a cooler instead of a refrigerator, but those are just minor inconveniences and didn't bother me that much. Carmen is also very gracious and always tries to accommodate her guests' needs.

Dordrecht is a quaint, mid-sized city. I was on a three-month trip in Europe and needed some quiet time to get work done. I was able to do that at a very nice library and a couple of cafes in the city center, which is about 15 minute's bike from Carmen's place. There's a lovely nature reserve about 10 minutes' bike away, where you can jog or take long walks. When you're up for it, you can also bike (in a leisurely pace) for about an hour and a half to the Biesbosch National Park.

  • An absolutely lovely experience staying with Carmen, her daughter, Roos and the two dogs! A very friendly household and Carmen went out of her way to help me. I was able to use the spare bike when it was available. I felt totally at home. The bed was very comfortable.
I shall certainly visit again next time I am in the Dordrecht area. Extremely good value. Dordrecht is a lovely city, lots of nice lanes to explore and interesting small shops such as the children's bookshop, Twinkle Twinkle and the best cake and coffee shop going, Christa's Cookies!

  • Carmen is a really nice host, very welcoming, helpful and friendly. I felt at home very quickly and enjoy nice conversations, laughs, reading with her daughter Roos and the lovely dogs. It's a really nice place for me to stay because of my part time job in Dordrecht. I can relax and/or socialize whenever I want.
The neighborhood is very green, I love to see the trees in front of the house. Also a convenient place, you can go to the city or highway very easy.
In the beginning I heard the train crossing a lot, but was used to it in no-time. If you're a light sleeper, bringing earplugs might be helpful.
It's a great place to stay. I recommend it for a short or long stay.

  • I spent my first week in Netherlands, before installing to Rotterdam, in Carmen's cozy place and absolutely loved it! The location is very convenient for visiting other cities as Rotterdam. You should take advantage of touring around beautiful Dordrecht, it is something you wouldnt like to miss. Carmen can give you all the instructions you need! The house is really nice and tranquil, definitely recommend for a short or long stay.

  • Perfect Place.. Perfect Host... It is a very nice and quiet place that serves as Hub for any place in the Holland Zuid. Delf and Rotterdam at just less than 20 minutes, but far away from the noise... The pond with ducks in the backyard, was one of my favourite places to relax.

  • My stay in Dordrecht was spectacular! Carmen's place is located about a ten minute walk from the train platform so there is extremely easy access to the rail system which pairs perfectly with the centralized location relative to Antwerpen, Rotterdam, Amsterdam, Kinderdijk, and west Germany. Don't dismiss Dordrecht itself, though, as it's history is immense (oldest city in the Netherlands) and it's beautiful - not to mention it's surrounded by the sublime Biesbosch, one of the largest natural preserves in Holland. I'm a runner and took several runs through the preserves and the surrounding city and they were truly unmatched in terms of landscape and atmosphere.

Carmen also offered great accommodations in her charming dike house: access to the kitchen, wi-fi, a comfortable bed with linens and towels, and a garden right on the marsh all made me feel at home. I slept like a baby as it didn't bother me in the slightest, but it is worth noting that there is a train crossing nearby, so if you're a light sleeper, perhaps earplugs are in order.

The pups are quite friendly and Carmen herself is a great hostess. She has a good sense of humor, is an interesting conversationalist, has good recommendations for places to visit, and can share a bit of Netherlands history, too.

If I can some day make it back to the Netherlands, I would stay there again in a heartbeat.!

Hi, My name is Carmen and I'm a 34 year old single mom in Dordrecht. I have a very nice, very pink girl room for you to stay in. For now you'll have to do with it but it will be redecorated soon. But in the meantime it will make you immediately feel young again, when you had no trouble in the world and your future was clear and bright. And now, when you probably are in Dordrecht for businessreasons you can stay at my place. I have a lovely "dijkwoning", which is Dutch for a house on a dike. It's from 1931 so very authentic. We're very nicely located near the trainstation Dordrecht Zuid and the highway to and from Rotterdam and Breda. From Dordrecht you can easily go to Belgium (Antwerp is 80 km) and Germany (180 km). The nearby big cities are Breda (35 km), Rotterdam (24 km) and The Hague (50 km). So if you're here just for business purposes and want to save some money by staying with us instead of staying at the Van der Valk hotel nearby and enjoy some comfortable and a more homelike feeling, you're more then welcome. But if you have some time to spare or are here for touristical reasons, Dordrecht has a lot to offer. Dordrecht is famous for The Biesbosch with its beavers and nesting sea eagles and a lot of other wildlife. You can explore The biesbosch by bike and canoe and you can also camp in the Biesbosch. Dordrecht also has a lot of cultural aspects: historical harbours, the big church, Huis van Gijn (Van Gijn museum) and 1800 monuments. Dordrecht has won the Events price of The Netherlands for a couple of years in a row so you can do a lot here. And I am happy to help you on your way. We have a big kitchen and you can make your own dinner. I also cook for myself and my daughter and if you wish you are more then welcome to join us. I can also set something aside which you can heat up later if you'de like. In the mornings I go to work and bring my daughter to school and in the afternoons I'll be working at home and most of the time I'll be home as well in the evenings. I have an extra bike for you to take if you'd like.
