This is a beautiful, cozy, corner studio on the fourth floor of an historic building in downtown New Haven. The location is ideal––opposite the Art School, adjacent to the stylish Study Hotel. Best of all, it's right next to the Yale Campus.
The apartment gets plenty of light, overlooks Yale's bell-towers, has hardwood floors, a full-size bed, comfy reading chair, snug kitchen, and custom closet for longer-term stays.
The neighborhood is my favorite part of New Haven. Take the elevator down to JoJo's cafe for a morning coffee. On the same block you'll find boutique shops, plenty of restaurants, theaters, galleries and museums.
What I love about this apartment is how quiet it is while being so centrally located. It's right next to shops and campus but when you get home you feel like you're in a sanctuary that's all yours.
We loved staying at Josh's studio apartment. It is a fantastic location and we were just a few blocks away from campus and where our daughter lives. It was great having our own place. The bed was comfortable, no sound issues from the street, clean and simple-just what we wanted. Great value for the price! Good to know that there is not good internet from the apt. but there is a cafe on the bottom floor of the building where you can get good reception. We would come back in a flash!
Contact with Joshua was regular up to and during my stay which was a comfort. The place was perfect for me as it was minutes from Yale (which was my reason for visiting) and near nice restaurants. I also visited the cinema a couple of times which is only about a 10 minute (website hidden) Jo's café right downstairs was nice to sit and have a coffee and a bagel on a morning. The only thing I missed was access to wifi (and had I thought ahead I might have brought my laptop as there is no TV but that was my own fault - Just a heads up if you like to watch stuff on an evening). I could access it at JoJo's during the day but on an evening I just had to do without. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone travelling to New Haven. It is also within walking distance from the train if you don't mind a 20 plus minute stroll).
Josh was super helpful and friendly. He was easy to communicate with and very accommodating. The apartment was clean and comfortable. The location is perfect for people visiting Yale. Highly recommended!
This apartment was in a good location for our needs. However, parking was an issue, as it's necessary to either pay for metered parking or park on the street three blocks away.
Josh was a friendly host, but the apartment did not meet very high standards of cleanliness. The grout in the tub had mildew, and the bathroom floor, rug, and sink were dirty. The kitchen stove was crusty with spills and there were food remains in the sink strainer.
The foam mattress is thin and the radiator bangs at 5 a.m., so quality of sleep was an issue.
There was no toilet paper at all in the bathroom when we arrived.
Since our flight was delayed, we got there late at night and texted Josh regarding how to heat the apartment and he was responsive.
Based on our overall experience, Josh gave us a partial refund.
I was unexpectedly called out of town for the month of December, when Charles was due to stay, and so had to leave the apartment in the care of a friend--who didn't do the best job. I am back now and the apartment is once again clean and welcoming for future guests.
The location and communication with Josh was great. Although he was not in town, there was no issue getting the keys and finding the apartment. The main issue I had with the apartment was the cleanliness. Pretty much every molding had a thick layer of dust. The wood floor was pretty beat up and also had lots of dirt in the cracks. Kitchen had layers of food along the wall that splattered from prior cooking. And the bathroom was also dirty (heater had dust and dirt caked on it). I've stayed in Airbnbs in Paris, Iceland, Massachusetts, & Florida and have not encountered these issues. This along with the lack of Wifi/TV made the week long stay a little more difficult than necessary.
Although I think Alex is exaggerating a little, I was unexpectedly called out of town for the month of December and had to leave the apartment in the care of a friend---who didn't do the best job with upkeep. I am back now and have thoroughly cleaned the apartment, making it ready and welcoming for future guests.
Josh's flat was perfect for working in New Haven: really well located, neat, and easily accessible. Josh was really helpful in organizing access details. I would certainly stay again!
Josh's place is in a great neighborhood, very convenient to the Yale campus and to downtown New Haven. It is directly next door to the Study at Yale, where your friends are probably paying multiples of what you would pay here.
Those of you who are going back to Yale as alumni of one kind or another will instantly recognize the familiar "look and feel" of classic New Haven off-campus housing--charming, nostalgia-inducing, and definitely on the spartan side.
Josh was a great host, helpful as I was planning my trip and very good at following up and answering questions. I found the apartment clean and neat, with lots of fresh towels and ample bedding.
I would definitely stay there again.
I am a 30 year old PhD student/writer who divides his time between Brooklyn and New Haven. I love to read, travel, watch and talk about films, meet people from different cultures and collaborate on artistic projects with new friends.
