About This Listing
Basic bedroom (converted living room) in a cute little house in the medina. Perfect for those looking for budget accommodation and basic facilities in a great location less than 10min away by foot from the Square. Sunny terrace. Four house cats.
The bedroom (converted living room) is in the groundfloor by the kitchen. Window on street view level. Two bedside table (one with lamp), one coffee table, one wardrobe. Not visible on the photos, but several spots on the wall with peeling paint. Thick inside curtain on door and window to keep the room isolated from the cold in winter and the heat in summer so it stays comfortable without any major devices.
The house is small but comfortable enough.
There are three bedrooms, two bathrooms, one kitchen and a terrace which serves as a sunny lounge room. Also shaded area to cope with the heat of Marrakesh.
With the room comes access to internet, kitchen with fridge and washing machine, bathroom and sunny terrace with space to hang your clothes to dry.
The room comes also with towels and bedlinen, so you can use that space on your suitcase for something else.
Interaction with Guests
At the time, I am only spending two nights a week at the house (usually Mondays and Thursdays) but I am always available through phone or internet.
I like to go and meet the person at the square (or some other place nearby) to walk them to house so as to show the way there. If this is not possible because you're arriving during my working hours (9h to 18h30), I will send someone I trust to do it.
I may ask you to feed the cats if I go away for some days (this is, of course, not mandatory, but, in case you say no, there will be somebody from outside the house coming in everyday to do it).
There are no locks for the rooms. The only key is the one for the front door.
The Mouassine neighborhood is in the center of the medina and offers many activities.
There are a lot of groceries, souvenirs and handicraft shops in the area, as well as restaurants and cafés.
It is also known for hosting many picturesque arches and part of the souks.
The house can be only reached by foot or motorbike or bycicle. The closest place to get a taxi is Bab Laqsour about 5 min away by foot. The square of Jema El Fna where you can get taxis and city buses is less than 10 min away. The closest bus station is at Bab Doukkala about 15 min away.
Other Things to Note
The house is cleaned weekly by a professional cleaning lady and I do some tidying up in between.
Be nice to my cats and respectful to the neighbours.
During your stay, your room's cleanliness is your responsibility. If you are not going to help with the cleaning of the common spaces, at least, keep them as you found them.
If you want to bring your own guests, for the evening or to sleep over, please, inform me before. I believe you will agree I have the right to know who comes to my house other than the ones who booked with me.
Smoking allowed on the terrace only.
The house was basic and functional, with ok water pressure, bedding, and wifi. This is a good base of operations for those who want a safe, solid, and inexpensive place for storing luggage, sleeping, and bathing, but plan to be out all day or take trips around the rest of the country, as the lounge space is the terrace, which is big and comfy but can be harsh under the hot sun during the day. I didn't mind feeding the 4 cats, who made good company, but there was a lot of dander and fur in the air and on furnishings, which triggered daily allergy attacks for me (which was not a fault of Patricia, her listing, or the cats -- my allergies just decided to be uncooperative). I would not recommend this place for: a) people with moderate to severe allergies (I had to check out early because of this, and luckily Patricia was very gracious about letting me change my reservation); or b) people who get easily flustered with directions (I got turned around my first few days after being overwhelmed navigating through the souks, which the neighborhood branches off from; so trying to regain my bearings on a winding street in an unfamiliar neighborhood was frustrating at first, but not so bad once I stopped being so nervous about getting lost!). Patricia herself was nice and helpful, but I didn't find her exactly friendly or engaging. Reading through the last 3 years of reviews for this AirBnB, you can see an obvious shift in guests' perceptions of her level of welcome, friendliness, and hospitality. Ultimately, hosts are not required to become your friend, but it's really too bad because I think Patricia is an interesting woman. Overall, I would absolutely recommend this house, but would likely not stay again. Many thanks.
The house is nice and the location is perfect, I was happy to have my own bathroom. The price is suitable. I was warned that there were four cats but, I didn't know that the house owner was not living in the house. She comes one time a day to feed the cats. For me it was difficult to enjoy the place. The cats were unbearable to me, they rule the house, they walk over the dinning table and all over the kitchen. They get desperate in the morning for food, and bother you all the time. A cleaning lady comes one time a week but, it is not enough, the hair of four cats is all over the place again. During my stay, there was an other lady that was renting the other room, and she had to get up during the night to feed the cats because they become wild and do not let you sleep. This place is only for cat's lovers.
A fantastic bargain in the heart of the medina! You can't beat the location - it is literally in the souk, ten minutes from Djamaa El Fnaa, and within 20-30 minutes walk of every major tourist attraction in the old town of Marrakech, so you only really need a cab for the Menara and Marjorelle gardens (which are 15 minutes by driving). Patricia was a welcoming and gracious host and her cats and her puppy are friendly and generally well behaved, although if you don't like animals it is probably not the choice for you, as if you forget to close your door they do like to take over your bed, sniff all your things, and insist on being petted :). The room is basic but comfortable and quite nicely furnished in traditional Moroccan style with a large double bed, warddrobe, small mosaic-tiled table and nightstand, and traditional painted doors and window shutters, and definitely much nicer than hostel options in this price range. If you are on the ground floor you have the ground floor bathroom to yourself, and you also have access to the kitchen and laundry facilities, as well as a sunny rooftop terrace where the cats lounge. Would definitely recommend!
I have had a lovely 17 day stay with Patricia. She's a lovely girl, I feel we got to know and respect eachother. The house is lovely. The location more than perfect in the most beautifull aria of the medina. I loved the animals which by now are 4 cats and a puppydog. You have got to love them but I feel it is to much for the house. I know Patricia is looking for new housing for some of them. Want to see Marrakesh at it's best at a real fair price, stay here.
I stayed at Patricia's for two months while I was in Marrakech for work. Patricia is a friendly host and roommate. The house is basic but comfortable and cleaned top to bottom by a housekeeper every other week. Its location, right in the heart of the medina, yet quiet and still at walking distance from the ville nouvelle, is perfect. Don't stay here if you don't like cats or if you expect to be treated like a guest all the time. All in all, this place is great value for money if you are looking for short-term housing in Marrakech from abroad.
