The Space

Super spacious apartment in the historic center of Salvador, Brazil! You'll be a five minute walk from night life, yet will appreciate coming back home to this low-key neighborhood and quiet street. Plus, walking distance from the World Cup matches at Fonte Nova stadium.

Here, your rent will include all utilities and household expenses, including high speed internet. Use of the washing machine is available for an additional contribution.

Here's the deal: the apartment is three floors. On the first floor is a suite, the second has two bedrooms, and the third is the covered roof deck - breezy and beautiful! Let's start there: from the terrace you'll enjoy a great view of the city, and can use the washing machine and grill. You can also hang, have dinner, stretch, exercise, knock yourself out! The access to the terrace is through our bedroom, which we keep open almost all day to ensure guests can access the roof.

Your room here will be on the second floor, next to the hammock/sun room. You will have plenty of shelf and hanger space for your clothes and belonging, as well as a desk should you need it. A fan as well to keep cool - it is hot in Salvador!

The kitchen is small, but decked out with all the pots, pans and utensils you'll need. Fridge space and shelf space, too. If you're not into cooking, you'll still love the big kitchen table in the dining area.

There are two living room spaces: one downstairs at the entrance of the house and one upstairs that sometimes serves as a room. They are both fairly breezy and have comfortable seating and hammocks.

The outdoor spaces are also really special. One small patio area opens out from the first floor, and is home to the washing machine, two bathrooms and a little garden. Storage space is also available there, should you need it. Then upstairs is the covered roof deck - the best space for hanging clothes, enjoying the view, all that.

Now that you know the apartment, let's talk about the neighborhood. Santo Antônio is next to the famous historical center of Pelourinho, but it's much quieter and less touristy, so it's a great place to come back to. It is a quiet area with beautiful, old buildings and some of Salvador's best hotels and inns. Ours is a small and humble side street with a great community of neighbors.

One side of the neighborhood looks out over the bay, so you'll have plenty of chances go out for delicious food (email hidden) while watching the sunset over the water, or seeing all the lights of the bay and lower city at night.

Finally, you will find most of what you need here in Santo Antônio. There are bakeries, supermarkets, bars and restaurants, and bus stops all in the area. But careful, on Sundays many things in Brazil close early or don't open at all.

Seja bem-vindo!

Nice neighbourhood, it's a real neighbourhood, just 10-15mins outside pelo it's a nice scene as it feel like your staying somewhere real, it's got bakeries and grocery stores close by, in Salvador every is walking distance if your up for it! Bus station for the longer trips isn't too far away either.

  • Lovely home in the historic neighborhood of Salvador. It is just a few minutes walk to Pelourinho. Julia and her husband are extremely friendly. Since Julia was on vacation, we picked up the keys from another house guest, Aida. They are all like one big family in that house and we were also made to feel that way. Aida was so kind to actually walk with us to show us the way to Pelourinho. The neighborhood initially scared us since we reached Salvador in the afternoon of Sao Joao day, and the roads were completely empty. But then in the evening it became festive and full of life. A very residential area but the roads can get slightly deserted in the nights but since I was with my husband it wasnt that bad.

About the stay: A very nice place and lovely people. Our stay was very short, but if you want to experience the real culture and life of Salvador should stay here for at least a week or so.

  • Great place. Great location. Great people.
The house is beautiful and has everything you need in it's own simplicity, rooftop area to relax and also the hammock room, nice small kitchen and dinning table, perfect for breakfast before you leave the house to go exploring.
Add the fact there's enough bathroom and showers that even when the house is full there'll never be a long wait.
    The location is perfect!
10mins walk from the crowds of Pelourinho,
There is a great lunch bar down the street and perfect little grocery store around the corner and plenty other bars, restaurants and bakery's(cheap and good breakfast/lunch) that make it feel like it could be any better placed, historic sites are every and nothing is too far away to walk, just up the street you have a local square where there is a capoeira school and great views of the bay.
The people could be any better, Fuka and Julia are very kind and friendly, they do their outmost to accommodate you and make you feel at home in Salvador, Julia being American speak English which is a great bonus for anyone who speak little or no Portuguese(me!), Fuka can speak a little bit of English and is currently learning and getting better! I came for the World Cup by myself knowing I would meet people here with similar stories for different parts of the world and that's what happened, the house was full and full of great people and I think that's something's Julia strives for, good company! Aida gets a mention here because she was a fantastic personality who was also at the house at the time, she was a great help and a good friend of Fuka and Julia, lovely person!

So to Julia and Fuka, thank you very much for the very pleasant and comfortable stay and I believe we'll meet again! And to anybody considering coming to Salvador and want something less tourist and more real but not loosing out on what makes a great stay, you've found the place!

  • One word to the hosts and their house: beautiful! Second word is: happy! Happy to meet Julia and Fuca, the dog, the cat and their sweet friends. We were very happy for 4 days in Santo Antonio- a nice and calm neighborhood right next to Pelourinho. The room was also just fine for us! The deck was amazing and the room with the hammocks pure joy. I can only reccommend this place in Salvador. We will go back if we can!!

  • Lovely home close to, but not right in the centre of town. Julia has decorated her home simply but elegantly and the house is very spacious. Rooftop deck provides a great view and hammocks are a plus. Julia and Fuca are welcoming hosts and were very helpful in arranging transport on our trips to and from the airport. Thank you, Dan + Una

HI all - I am a New Yorker living in Salvador, Brazil, where I work as a teacher and translator. I work at a private school on the other side of town, but love coming back to my neighborhood to cook, relax, have a beer, etc. I love cats, and recently adopted one. I love being social and also appreciate my alone time. I like getting to know the people I live with, and feeling like they know me, at least a little bit. I used to work on farms in upstate New York, and in Brooklyn worked at a food-based non-profit. All this to say I love to cook, try new foods, (try to) take care of plants, and get out of the city to some of the beautiful more rural places around here. I translate and also like to share stories on my blog, The Time Is Meow. I like to travel light, though when I get there, I always regret having traveled so light. Happens every time.
