About this listing
Our spacious and simple house is located in Salvador's lovely historic center. The house has many common areas, outdoor and indoor, where you can relax + enjoy the weather here. You'll be a short walk from wonderful cafés, bars, and views of the bay.
Here is our hammock room. It's really breezy and great for relaxing, reading, working on the computer, etc. More pictures as you scroll through!
Super spacious apartment in the historic center of Salvador, Brazil! You'll be a five minute walk from night life, yet will appreciate coming back home to this low-key neighborhood and quiet street.
**Note: Please message me before requesting a reservation so I can answer all your questions!**
Here, your rent will include all utilities and household expenses, including high speed internet. Use of the washing machine is available for an additional contribution.
Here's the deal: the apartment is three floors. On the first floor is a suite, the second has two bedrooms, and the third is the covered roof deck - breezy and beautiful! Let's start there: from the terrace you'll enjoy a great view of the city, and can use the washing machine and grill. You can also hang, have dinner, stretch, exercise, knock yourself out! The access to the terrace is through our bedroom, which we keep open almost all day to ensure guests can access the roof.
Your room here will be on the second floor, next to the hammock/sun room. You will have plenty of shelf and hanger space for your clothes and belonging, as well as a desk should you need it. A fan as well to keep cool - it is hot in Salvador!
The kitchen is small, but decked out with all the pots, pans and utensils you'll need. Fridge space and shelf space, too. If you're not into cooking, you'll still love the big kitchen table in the dining area.
There are two living room spaces: one downstairs at the entrance of the house and one upstairs that sometimes serves as a room. They are both fairly breezy and have comfortable seating and hammocks.
The outdoor spaces are also really special. One small patio area opens out from the first floor, and is home to the washing machine, two bathrooms and a little garden. Storage space is also available there, should you need it. Then upstairs is the covered roof deck - the best space for hanging clothes, enjoying the view, all that.
We provide a map of our area, with our recommendations for sights and activities in Salvador, when guests arrive. We want people to feel comfortable in the neighborhood! Inside the house, guests have access to all common spaces. We have three outdoor spaces as well as a sun room, living room, and breakfast area for relaxing in the house. Guests have free access to wifi. We provide towels and sheets, and can provide shampoo, condition and soap upon request. We ask for a 25 reais contribution per load to use our laundry machine.
Interaction with Guests
Fuca and I both love getting to know our guests. We also know, though, that people often come to spend time with their friends, have alone time, and explore the city. I work full time, so am gone during the day. Email me or text any time if you need help! Fuca works, too, but has a more flexible schedule, and will probably be around more often. When we're at home, we always love to spend time at the restaurants around our house, and always love to bring interested guests with us.
We live in a neighborhood called Santo Antônio, which is an historic neighborhood with restaurants, galleries, cafés and the feeling of a small town. It's next to the famous historical center of Pelourinho, but it's much quieter and less touristy, so it's a great place to come back to. It is a quiet area with beautiful, old buildings and some of Salvador's best hotels and inns. Ours is a small and humble side street with a great community of neighbors.
We live within a short walk of public transportation that can get you to almost every part of the city. We have a transfer available from the airport to our house (and vice versa if you'd like) with a driver who's worked with us for a long time and knows the house well. If you're interested, please send your full flight info!
Rules here are pretty basic. Mainly, just enjoy your stay and all of the great spaces in the house! The other things are as follows:
- Please, no friends/guests in the house.
- No big late night noise.
- Keeping the kitchen tidy is a must.
- Help us to be conscious of resources! Please ALWAYS turn off fans and lights before leaving the house. Check and double check faucets to make sure they're not leaking
Here is your bedroom! We provide cotton towels and sheets, and here you'll find space to hand or fold all your clothes.
Julia and Fuca's home is situated in Santo Antonio which is at most 10 minutes away from Pelourinho, which is the historic centre of Salvador. I was determined to get to there by means of public transport, but had been warned that a wheeliebag might not survive the cobblestones. As luck would have it I managed to get shared transport right to my doorstep, but Julia was right, don't attempt public transport unless you have a rucksack. There is also quite a bit of uphill. There are three rooms available and I had the downstairs room which has its own shower and toilet and more than adequate. I was allowed to use their washing machine, and the only problem was having to go through their private space to get up to the roof to top garden/ hanging up area. I know that Julia and Fuca are quite relaxed about it, but I feel uncomfortable invading that space. Both Julia and Fuca are warm welcoming people and could not do enough to make sure I had a good time in Salvador. Being married to an American Fuca is intensively learning to speak English, and Fuca: keep on practicing, soon you will speak fluently!! There are a few lovely eateries around and of course you can spend hours just wandering through Pelhourinho. Felt quite safe at night. Thank you again for making my stay in your vibrant city so memorable!!
I stayed with Julia and Fuca for one month and it was really amazing. They are really nice, the house is beautiful, the neighborhood is calm and peaceful and it is at 5 minutes from Pelourinho (historic center). I recommand without any hesitation!
Julia and Fuca are amazing hosts! It's such a cool house to stay in and they have created a really cool vibe! Santo Antonio is def one of the best if not the best neighborhood to see in Salvador to get the real feel of the city. I stayed here a month and def really enjoyed my time with Julia and Fuca

About the Host, Julia & Fuca
Hello and welcome! I am a New Yorker, living in Salvador for the past few years now. I coordinate a bilingual language program in an elementary school on the other side of town, and have a small translation company. Fuca, my husband, is from here and works in education as well.
We love coming back to our neighborhood after work to relax, enjoy the view, cook at home and have a beer at some of the awesome bars and restaurants around. We are a low-key couple, but love getting to know our guests and getting people together in our home.
We really enjoy sharing all the places and lesser-known points of this city with our guests as well. Just let us know what you are interested in an we will try to connect you with it!
