The Space

This property has a Walk Score of 92 Walker's Paradise, and a Transit Score of 100 Transit Paradise. Its two blocks from the sparkling brand new flagship SF Whole Foods at Dolores and Market Streets and the Church Street Muni Station (the train.)

Step into modern amenities with period architecture. This 100 year old home has undergone a meticulous renovation. There's reliable electricity, forced hot air, recessed lighting, and the savvy design eye will notice several walls have been removed to create a modern open feel. The exterior was painted in 2012 and the interior 2013. There's an odd quietness about this home that is serene and only broken when you connect your phone to the Sonos stereo system. During the day you'll never turn a lamp on; the entire home is flooded with light. You'll rarely need heat in SF but if you do, there's forced hot air which warms the entire home in under 3 minutes. Should a heat wave hit, there's a brand new portable air conditioning unit on wheels in the closet.

The master bedroom offers a very comfortable queen size Room and Board mattress and the second bedroom offers a brand new queen size Macy's pillowtop mattress. The entire home is quiet enough that you'll be hard pressed to hear anything while you're sleeping.

As shown in the photos and documented in the reviews by other travelers, I have high standards and am quite proud of my home. There's a comfortable living room with couch, TV and Apple TV. The couch is perfect for an afternoon nap while you set your spouse to work in the gourmet kitchen attempting to recreate what I've shown in the photo. The kitchen is bright and airy adjacent to 72" dining room table. The back door opens onto a fire escape large enough to hold a full size gas grill and host friends for a glass of wine on the many beautiful afternoons in SF.

Whether you're looking for restaurants, bars, or even culture like the opera, symphony, and theater, it’s all within walking distance, which is really the best way to live like a local in SF. You're just off Market a few blocks from the Church and Van Ness Street subway stations (called MUNI short for municipal) and a few blocks from Safeway grocery store on Market Street. This means all the difference in the world in livability.

For morning coffee you'll have choices that include Delissio, Fourbarrel, Mission Beach Café, and two Starbucks in the Safeway across the street. There are world famous restaurants like Zuni and wine bars like Hotel Biron, and Pause. At the end of the street (a few hundred feet) there's three restaurants which are Japanese Sushi, Japanese Cafe, and Peruvian at Destino. My favorite restaurant Farina is a six block walk. During warm weather, a visit to Dolores Park and Bi-Rite Creamery is a must.

This area of Market Street is under going a massive revitalization. 1000 new residential units are opening during fall 2013 resulting in an avalanche of new restaurants and shopping. You're within walking distance of many of SF's hottest companies including AirBnB's new welcome center.

Interaction with Guests

I am available as much or as little as guests would prefer. I've lived in the city for 20 years and can offer many terrific suggestions whether or holiday or business travel.

The Neighborhood

I'm at the intersection of four of SF's best neighborhoods Mission Dolores, Hayes Valley, Castro, and SOMA. There are no hotels in this area. Airbnb is really the only way to live local.

  • Shannon's place is beautiful and well kept! We had a fantastic stay here. There are two bedrooms, each with comfortable queen-sized beds. The kitchen was well-stocked with all the cookware an utensils you would need, and Shannon left us some fresh milk, coffee, water, and snacks. Very clean, nicely decorated, and the location is wonderful. The house sits just off Market street in the Duboce Triangle, which is walking distance to the Mission and Hayes Valley. We loved walking to grab coffee at Four Barrel in the morning, and there is a nice, new Whole Foods within walking distance, just up Market.

Shannon was a very attentive host and checked in regularly (but unobtrusively) to see how everything was going and if we needed anything. We would highly recommend staying here!

  • The place was awesome! We had no issues whatsoever. Will definitely want to stay again. It was clean and in great shape. Shannon was also super responsive. Thanks!

  • Shannon was a very attentive host - checking on us often and letting us know where he would be, how to get in contact with him if we needed him, and suggesting places to eat and things to do. Also, answering any questions we had. The location of his home is so great and quiet, but so close to everything in a wonderful city. Wish it was our house! We can see why he has a 5 star rating in all categories.

  • Shannon's apartment was wonderful. It really looks like the pictures and the description... It is located in a very nice and convenient neighbourhood, with access to many restaurants and bars, in between Mission, Castro, Soma. It is very sunny, well decorated, and super clean. I'll certainly return to Shannon's for my next trip to San Francisco.
As for Shannon, we did not have the pleasure to meet him as we were busy exploring the city on our short trip. We communicated by text, and I'm sure Shannon would have been available had we needed anything. He pays attention to details (flowers, wine, soaps...), and the whole experience felt seamless!

  • Shannon is very nice and accommodated our last minute request to stay seamlessly. Beautiful apartment in a really fabulous location. Thank you Shannon!

  • Great host. Was able to accommodate our reservation same day. Very good communication. The condo is great - very comfortable and nice location near downtown. Host provided plenty of towels and even bottles of water and snacks. Would definitely stay there again when in SF. The only issue to be aware of is parking - you can't leave your car on the street during day on weekdays so if you have a car you'll have to park in a garage which isn't super convenient.

    Response from Shannon:

I'm glad you had a good stay Sam! Future guests, please be aware, without a permit there's no long term street parking almost anywhere in SF. Most streets are 2 hour zones or with permit. Its an issue everyone faces everyday. You can mitigate SF parking by renting a car in SF vs. at the airport. Please let me know your plans and I'll try to make a recommendation for you. This property has a WalkScore of "92" - Walker’s Paradise; try MUNI, BART, Uber, Lyft, Sidecar, or even a car rental from someone's local parking spot with RelayRides.

  • Arrived at Shannon's home after a rough start to the trip and was greeted by a sun filled, gorgeous apartment on a lovely street in the heart of the City - perfectly located between Hayes Valley and the Mission, downtown and the Castro.

Shannon focuses on the visitor at home - incredibly responsive and nice touches like snacks and wine. He runs a tight ship with his visitor in mind. Kudos.

  • Shannon is wonderful! He is super responsive, thoughtful, and clear in his communications. He helped us out of a less than ideal situation and was able to host at the last minute. Shannon is a credit to the Airbnb community and we're so happy to have hosts like him in SF!

About
Hello, as my reviews show I'm an experienced and dedicated Airbnb host and a friendly and very good local tour guide. I love SF, Silicon Valley, The Wine Country, and welcome anyone also wanting to learn about life in Northern California. I'd be happy to leverage my extensive network to make your visit memorable. If I don't know exactly where to point you, I know someone who does. I've lived and worked in and around San Francisco since graduating from Cornell University where I studied business management and minored in hotel management. I have an extensive background in technology, entrepreneurship, and fund raising. I'm a foodie, a fitness fanatic, and am very active in the LGBT community. I sell enterprise software. I'm completely dedicated to 5 star stays and welcome your feedback before, during, and after your stay. My dream is San Francisco Sept-December. Sydney January to March. Paris in April. Dublin in May. San Francisco in June. Napa or Palo Alto July August. I'm hoping AirBnB can help. Let's get started!
