Room in a home

Your own room in a home, plus access to shared spaces.
This is the EAST room. It's one of only 2 guest bedrooms on the 2nd floor of our home (other room is WEST). We live on the main floor with our 3 cats. Your room has dishes & a mini-fridge, but NO microwave. Guests from both rooms share a large bathroom, but not with us. Two blocks away is the popular Hawthorne District. It's a famous foodie district with quirky local shops, and so many vintage clothing stores!! Hang out on the front porch or walk the neighborhood. We look forward to meeting you.

THE EAST ROOM
FYI: if the room you were hoping to reserve does not show up for your dates, it isn't available.
Please note that:
THE CITY ADDS 15.5% TAX AND A $4 PER NIGHT ADDITIONAL FEE TOWARDS AN AFFORDABLE HOUSING FUND.

The East room is a private room and has a digital lock with your personal code programmed into it for your stay. It is a cozy room on the street side of our home and the window looks out on a large magnolia tree that blooms once a year usually in mid-March. The East room SHARES the only bathroom with the guests the guests in West room (not with us). The East room has a queen bed with a memory foam topper, a mini-fridge with filtered water, and a walk-in closet stocked with robes and additional pillows, blankets, and towels.
NOTE: There are NO cooking facilities, nor a microwave, laundry, or a community living space. HOWEVER, WE INVITE GUESTS to relax on our large Portland-style front porch or in our backyard garden.

Guest access
Guests are asked to remove their shoes while in the home; freshly laundered slippers are provided. We do not share our personal living space and there are NO kitchen or laundry facilities for guests, but we do provide freshly brewed morning coffee in the front hallway. Tea is also available.

For breakfast, the area is abundant with locally owned coffee shops, food carts, and restaurants, all within steps from our home, or you can have a cold breakfast in your room. Free street parking is available across from our driveway. No city permit is required.

Finally, WE INVITE GUESTS to relax on our Portland-style front porch or in the shady back yard with deck, garden, and KOI pond.

During your stay
We love meeting new people and we take pleasure in helping you make the most of your visit to our wonderful city. We have made a list of our favorite places to eat – all are close to our home, and we have loads of books, maps, guides, and brochures to help you plan your visit to Portland. However, we can also let you explore and discover on your own if that’s your style.

Other things to note
A. We have 3 cats. Our home might not be a good fit for people with an allergy to cats.
B. We DO NOT SHARE our personal living space, kitchen, or laundry.
C. CHILDREN: We can accommodate ONE or TWO children under 18 by setting up an airbed OR a pack and play in your room. There is no additional charge. Please inform us in advance if you need this accommodation.
D. FREE street parking is available across from our driveway. No city permit is required. WARNING: DO NOT LEAVE ITEMS VISIBLE IN YOUR CAR day or night, as we sometimes have car break-ins in our neighborhood. You should find a different listing if you can’t unload your car into your room.

Neighborhood highlights

Our southeast neighborhood is close-knit and quiet but only blocks from a trendy, bohemian-style shopping district with excellent restaurants. Free street parking is available across from our driveway. No city permit is required. We have several beautiful parks close by with duck ponds, tennis courts, and jogging paths. Portland has an active arts and music scene with styles for all tastes. The downtown is on the water and a great place for sailing or a dinner-cruise on the river. The Columbia George is about a 45-minute drive from our home. The Oregon coast is about an hour and a half from here by car.

I’m happy to spend time with my guests or give them space
My husband, Lee, and I are both retired. Lee was the finance manager for one of our large local food co-ops and I was a medical technologist and then taught English to speakers of other languages. We are interested in building local economies rooted in sustainability, resiliency, and community. We love relaxing at home with our 3 cats, making our yard beautiful, growing organic veggies and exploring Portland. We look forward to meeting you.
