About this listing
Homely, quiet, interesting and inviting, this little guest house is a well-kept secret. Set in the middle of the beautiful 15-hectare orange grove, in the valley of mount Taygetus, the guest house is a wonderfully quiet, agro-tourist retreat, with a twist of urban architecture.
Four elegant en suite- bedrooms, a lovely garden, and a relaxed dining area comprise this small warm and friendly atmosphere A wonderfully quiet, agro-tourist retreat, with a twist of urban architecture comprises four elegant en suite- bedrooms, a lovely garden, and a relaxed dining and luxury area.
The four independent houses are tastefully decorated with warm colours, stylish paintings and recycled furniture. The ground floor, which opens onto the garden, has a lounging area with lush cushions where one can enjoy a wide variety of books from the small library situated over the fireplace. Each house is also equipped with a small kitchenette for preparing quick snacks from fresh produce off the garden, if one feels like preparing a simple meal.
The top floor is perfect to snuggle up and “cocoon” in bed with a good book on a cold winter day and enjoy the view of the mountains, often covered in snow until the early spring months. The private veranda overlooking the surrounding gardens and citrus groves: a private moment for all those untimely risers who want to enjoy moments of sunrise and bird (website hidden)ing of early mornings.
Pets are supplied with a small house and stay just outside each apartment.
Please give us notice if you are a family so that we can make arrangements for a children's menu.
Breakfast is included in the price of the room. A standard menu with a variety of options is sent to you by mail in order for you to choose and helps us prepare more efficiently.
I would have this place if circumstances had been different, but it didn't work out that way. First of all, the lead photo on the web site is not a picture of the actual apartment that we were given, which is misleading. Secondly, the web site (at least up until the day we arrived) very clearly stated that it was a 2 bedroom, 2 bathroom apartment, and it was not. It consisted of 2 levels, with a loft-style bedroom and bathroom upstairs; and a sitting area, kitchen and half bath on the lower. The sofa could be made up into 2 narrow beds, but that does not constitute a bedroom.
In addition, there was no one there when we arrived. It turned out that Despoina was in California, and she communicated with us by cell phone and sent over a woman to make breakfast for us. There was no one else staying there, and the place had a feeling of desertion.
If we had known any of this ahead of time, it wouldn't have been so bad (although we wouldn't have booked it because we were traveling with our adult son and expected that he would have his own room). When we expressed our disappointment to Despoina (via cell phone, of course), and told her that we felt the place had been misrepresented, she did offer to let our son stay in one of the empty apartments, but we didn't accept, because it was kind of creepy being there alone and we wanted to stay together.
I will say that the apartment was fine for what it was, the towels were fluffy and the breakfast was okay. The view is also nice and the location was convenient for us. We just felt that there were inaccuracies in the description.
Very nice apartments in Sparti Dispoina helps you to find a nice tour to see all the important sites that are around… and Dimitra is very charming and makes nice breakfast or on demand dineras well.
The apartments and surroundings are more that you can imagine by the photos. They are simply breathtaking!
The hostess, Despoina is a warm-hearted person, who is ready to help you everything. And that breakfast in the garden: we can not forget it at all! We recommend this apartment for everybody who likes the tranquility of the Greek countryside.
We had a wonderful time at the Plethon Residence. First and foremost, Despoina and Costas are very warm, very hospitable people, who did all they could to make us feel welcome, and to accommodate our needs. The accommodation itself was beautiful, very comfortable, and the kitchen enabled us to prepare our own simple meals. We have two small children (ages 2 and 4) who enjoyed the surroundings, the garden, and the nearby pool. We highly recommend!!!
What a wonderful place, and so conveniently located! The host (Despoina) was extremely friendly and attentive to everything. Also, she was a font of knowledge concerning not only the area around Sparta and Laconia, but also Mani and other areas of the Peloponnese. Will definitely be staying here again!
Desponia really made our little family feel welcomed. She was very helpful with places to go around town and all the beautiful beaches close by.The property was so beautiful and ideal when travelling with little ones. My husband particularly enjoyed the evening wines and chats with Desponia, her family and fellow guests. Any family or friends going to Sparti I would recommend her place! Thank you so much!
