The space

AS FEATURED ON ABC WORLD NEWS IN JANUARY 2013:

Come stay in one of our comfortable guest rooms. The house is rich with original elaborate woodwork, musical instruments and artwork throughout. The available rooms have bright, natural light and have a queen-size bed with a new memory foam mattress.

Only 12 miles west of New York City, Montclair is a quick, 35-minute train ride to Penn Station - making our house the perfect economical alternative for travelers, students and couples wishing to tour NYC. We are located within a five-minute walk to the New Jersey Transit Midtown Direct train station at Bay Street. Frequent bus service is also available.

During your stay in our home, you will hear lots of music. Mia is a voice teacher and opera singer. You will also enjoy a home-made breakfast of your choice (allergies will be considered) created by Mia (just let her know). Additional meals, voice lessons and English-language instruction can be provided by special arrangement.

The home is located on a beautiful tree-lined street of Victorian homes in artsy Montclair, New Jersey. There are many restaurants of all ethnicities (Ethiopian, Italian, Chinese, Thai, Southern American, etc.). The Montclair Art Museum is a short distance away along with multiple galleries and great shopping.

Free wi-fi, free off-street parking, free washer/dryer, piano, front porch and living room access. We are happy to give touring advice, directions, restaurant recommendations and more.

Due to allergies, we have no pets (and, unfortunately, cannot accommodate any). For those who are also sensitive, we use only fragrance-free detergents.

We look forward to meeting you!

Guest access

Guests will have access to all of the downstairs rooms including the front foyer, music room, office and kitchen. We also have a front porch and off-street parking in our driveway.

Interaction with guests

Someone is always available to assist with recommendations, travel advice, public transportation guidance and more.

The neighborhood

Our neighborhood is full of stately Victorian homes, mature trees and gardens. We are a short walk from downtown Montclair with a multitude of shopping and restaurants.

Getting around

We are a 5-minute walk to the NJ Transit Midtown Direct train which takes 35 minutes to get to Penn Station, NYC. We are also a short walk to several bus stops for the Decamp bus line (#66 and #33) which take about 35 minutes to reach Port Authority Bus Terminal in NYC.

House Rules
No smoking
Not suitable for pets
Check in time is flexible

Please treat our home as your own. Please follow the no-smoking/no pet rules. Please acknowledge that you understand that the guest room is located on the third floor of our Victorian home (31 steps total). Please note that each additional guest will be charged $10/per night.

The Township of Montclair will ticket cars ($35) parked on the street if parked more than four hours on a weekday or between the hours of 2-5 AM. You may park in our driveway, but you must be willing to leave your car keys downstairs so that your car may be moved if necessary. Otherwise, you need to purchase an overnight parking pass at a rate of $5/night.

This is in fact, our very lived-in home. We love welcoming guests on our first floor, and enjoy socializing. We enjoy sitting around and having a conversation while sharing drinks from our bar in the evenings. Please do not feel that you need to "hide" in your room. Please also understand that the "family" sections of the house may not be as tidy as the guest quarters. We apologize in advance that we do not have cable TV service. The family instead utilizes wifi for streaming services.

Mia made feel right at home the moment I walked through the door!! She is so warm and friendly it makes you feel secure in your stay. The room is great, bed is super comfy, there is a ton of space and everything is clean including the bathroom! I would recommend Mia's place as first choice to anyone!!!

All was perfect! I really felt welcome! Mia is so nice, it was really great to stay at her! The room and the bathroom are all ok! She is very helpful and she knows the best adresses for all (Restaurants, Shops...) I recommend this Airbnb stay!!! I also have to say that she is a great opera singer! I had a really nice opera performance at her house! I'll come again, sure!

Mia was a gracious host. However, the house is not only worn and in bad shape, the interior carpet is spotted and dirty. The bedroom had cobwebs on the walls, looked and felt dingy.

Mama Mia's house was wonderful! Thanks for the hospitality and the awesome opera production. Thanks for taking our son under your wing and giving him the opportunity to sing with your theatre. We hope to be back soon. Welcome to the empty nest part of your life - just means you did an excellent job raising them right!

I am the General Director of an opera company in New Jersey. I have three grown kids. My husband is an attorney with his own law practice.

I love to cook and eat out. There are many local restaurants that I can recommend. I also love roaming around New York City. I enjoy showing my city off and would be happy to guide you.

My daughter and I traveled to France and Italy together in 2012 - truly the best summer of my life.

We hosted students from France for several years, and we really love having guests in our home. Many years ago, we dreamed of opening an official B&B - this is the next best thing.

I have had excellent experiences staying with Air BnB hosts in different cities. I hope you will give us a try!
