Close to Miraflores-Home Sweet Home

House - Private room · Víctor Alzamora, Surquillo, Lima Region 15048, Peru

The Space

This room has a cozy double bed, dresser, and closet and accommodates 2 people comfortably. We have antique furniture and like to think that it gives the feeling of home which you cant get in a hotel.
See: "Private Area", "Cute and Cozy" or "The Budget Room".

Guest Access

Guests have access to the parlor and the patio "Charito". Wifi will have to be accessed from the parlor where the signal is the strongest. The parlor has doors that can be closed for more privacy.
There is a large shared bathroom (with 1 or 2 other people). Sometimes you may be lucky enough to have it to yourself if the other room remains vacant.
Guests who are bringing their laptop may access Wifi in our home 24/7. If you are not bringing your laptop, you may use the internet cabin that is a short 2 minute walk from our home.
It is best to click on the "Amenities" tab so you know just exactly what we do and do not offer.

Interaction with Guests

We offer basic accomodations at very reasonable rates for our guests who are looking for a safe place to shower and sleep so that they may spend the rest of their time getting to know Lima. We do our very best to give you a warm welcome and make you feel comfortable in our home during your stay.
We are in and out of our home on a regular basis but Antonio is very good about checking in on guests often to make sure your stay is going well and to ask if there are any questions. If there is anything we forget or don't think about, please do not hesitate to ask!

The Neighborhood

We live in a safe neighborhood called Barrio Medico. It is located right on the border of the Miraflores/Surquillo District. We are closest to Angamos and Tomas Marsano (cuadra 17 Angamos) and Roca Y Bologna and Tomas Marsano (cuadra 9 Roca y Bologna).
Staying with us you will experience two worlds. One of locals enjoying the same malls, shops, markets, parks and walks that we do and the other being close enough to enjoy many tourist areas as well.THE HEART OF MIRAFLORES (PARQUE KENNEDY) IS A 25 MINUTE WALK FROM OUR HOME. If you do not like to walk, it is only about a 5 minute taxi ride away for about 6-7 Peruvian soles which is less than 2 Euros or $2.50 USD, VERY CHEAP :)
Barranco is about a 10 minute taxi ride and Central Lima is about 20-25 minutes. If you are not in a hurry and want to save money, there is always the option of taking a bus too :)
SAN ISIDRO and SAN BORJA are to the north
MIRAFLORES is to the south and west
SURCO is to the east

Taxi's are easily accessible right outside our front door and the nearest bus stop is about a 5 minute walk from our home.

Check In
  • We stayed with Antonio for just two nights however it was a great stay! The room was very cute in a retro way, with a generous & comfortable bed. The bathroom was clean & well appointed however the shower head was difficult to use as it's position cannot be adjusted- you have to have a shower with less water pressure to ensure it doesn't just shoot across the bathtub! We managed this fairly well.
The internet signal is poor in the bedroom & Antonio advised of this almost immediately, leading us to the front parlour where you can relax freely & use the internet. Antonio was very kind, attentive & helpful; drawing us mud-maps, recommending places to eat & drink & generally checking to ensure we were enjoying our stay. The house itself is just a 20 minute walk from Miraflores, is close to a very large mall (if you need anything) & is close to public transport should you wish to go downtown or anywhere else. Also Antonio's mum lives with him & she is an absolute sweetheart!!!
I would certainly recommend staying with Antonio - thanks again for everything, mate!

    Response from Antonio:

Thank you for such a nice review! We did manage to fix that shower head! Sorry about the internet not being so great in your room. Our home is quite large compared to others and unfortunately, having 24/7 internet does costs a lot of money here in Peru (which is what we offer our guests) with the understanding that our guests will be slightly inconvenienced with having to access it in the parlor. The parlor is nice and quiet and there are doors that can be closed for added privacy.
It was a pleasure hosting you and we wish you the very best in your travels! Have a great adventure!

  • We stayed with Antonia for three nights and it was perfect for us. The room was huge so we could really open up our bags, there was a really affordable and efficient lavanderia a few doors down. We walked to Miraflores a few times, bused to the downtown core and the beach in Chorillos. It was easy to get around especially because Antonio provided a map.
All in all the place was great with a very comfortable bed, a large mall very close with necessities (a huge TOTTUS grocery store and a movie theatre).
    A great AirBNB experience overall.

  • It was a amazing time in Lima and for sure one reason was Antonio and his nice place! Its in Surquillo and i love this area because its close to miraflores and the center, its a nice area and still you can find mamitas at the corner who are selling quinua and stuff like that! Antonio made our time there realy confortable. If we had question he takes the time to help you. The house is realy nice and the room was wonderfull! When we are coming back Antonio hopefully we can stay again in your home! Thanks for everything!

  • We arranged for Antonio to meet us at the airport as we were arriving late in the evening. Our flight from Mexico was delayed by 12 hours so we didn't arrive until the morning. We kept Antonio up to date and he still very kindly came to meet us. You pay for the driver as well as Antonio for coming out. Some people may want to find their own way. I am really glad we opted for the pick up. Lima airport is pretty busy, as is the taxi station, and arriving after a long flight and feeling a bit frazzled what we paid for was no hassle. Antonio also gave us loads of info on the way to his house, including recommended places to visit, experiences to try and best ways to get around. This information continued when at his house he gave us a very useful map with prices of taxis and buses to different places and where to get them from. Antonio himself was really friendly and welcoming and always happy to help. The house is great and has a warm homely feel to it. helped by his lovely Mother being really kind and personable. The room is as it looks on the photos. The bed is really comfortable and the shower was nice and hot at all times. Everything was clean and tidy. Location wise it's about a 20min walk into Milaflores (be warned there is a lot of pollution in Lima) so you may want to get taxis. Buses stop close by as well, though I recommend getting a run down on how they work before getting on one as I can only describe it as organised chaos.

  • We really enjoyed our stay at Antonio's! It feels like home and Antonio is a great host. He gave us great advice about Lima and places/districts to go. The neighborhood (Surquillo) is near Miraflores and is pretty safe as we always came back home from Miraflores to Antonio's by foot without any problem. The house and the bedroom were clean. If you're looking for an affordable and nice place to stay in Lima, we definitely recommend you this place as it's great value for money.

  • I stayed with Antonio in their home for two and a half days while touring Lima and awaiting a flight to Cuzco for the rest of my vacation. Antonio was always very helpful. I did pay to have him meet me at the airport and he was there as soon as I got our of customs even though that was half an hour early. Yes, you could get your own taxi for less, but you might have problems getting him to the exact address or you might even be given a higher rate because you are a tourist. Please keep in mind this is not a hotel or home in the states. But the neighborhood is safe and within easy walking distance to a large mall and grocery store just up the street. There is also a nice Peruvian restaurant up the street where you can experience some local cuisine. Remember they do not offer the use of the kitchen or breakfast so you should plan to find your meals elsewhere. Besides meeting me at the airport and giving me a thorough orientation to the house and the area, he was always to interrupt what he was doing and come down and answer any questions or even help get a taxi. Sometimes he would do that because they sometimes try to charge gringos more because they are considered rich foreigners. I never saw Tina who presumably was busy with the baby, but his Mom and other small children were very nice and his Mom was always trying to help me. It helped that I speak Spanish fluently, otherwise I'm not sure you could communicate with his mother. Overall, this was a very good and comfortable experience for a South American house stay.

  • The house is very nicely furnished and big. Our room was equipped with two beds, enough storage space and a wonderful view of the patio. We quite appreciate the calm, good wifi-connection and the spacious bathroom next to our room.
The house is located in Surquillo, near to Miraflores and you should calculate an hour of walk to the beach.
There is only one electricity plug in the room and since we arrived the bathroom was not cleaned.
In general for the price-quality ratio it is alright.

    Response from Antonio:

It was a pleasure hosting you. Sorry about the bathroom. We will definitely try harder to check it twice a day instead of once when we have a full house so everyone is happy! :) There are more electricity plugs in the parlor. Also, for the beach, it is optional to walk. For those who don't want to walk, I would recommend a taxi (around 8 soles/$2.75USD/ or 2.25 EURO) very cheap and it only takes 7 minutes! :) Thanks so much for staying with us!

  • It was the best choice to start our trip through Peru. Nice house, kind and helpful people that provided us with useful information.
We would definitely book this place again!

    Response from Antonio:

Thank you Nicola! It was such a pleasure to host you and I really hope to see you and Benno again! You were a great couple to have stay here.

  • If you're travelling on a budget Antonio & Tina's home is a great place to be. Antonio is very helpful, there's hot showers and a pretty comfy bed.

We enjoy walking and exploring on our own, which was great for this location.

Hi, my name is Antonio. I was born and raised in Lima, Peru. I moved to the United States when I was 16 and graduated from Clovis High School in Fresno, California. I moved to Sacramento, California after graduating from high school. After living in the United States for 22 years, I moved back here to Peru with my family last year to share with them my culture and love for my country. I speak Spanish and English. My wife of 15 years, Tina, was born in Concord, Massachusetts and moved to the Sacramento area in California when she was a child. She went to American River College and has an Associates degree in Medical Assisting. She speaks English and some Spanish. You will see a lot more of me than Tina as she is busy throughout the day tending to the shopping, cleaning of the house, and taking care of our three children. We enjoy hosting because it gives us an opportunity to meet new people and learn new things. We have had guests from all walks of life, from many parts of the world, and have enjoyed the company of each and every one of them. We feel fortunate to have met such nice people and sometimes it is hard to say good-bye. We look forward to your visit! Welcome to Peru!
