Large living room and kitchen. Newly renovated, modern bathroom (2012). Near all major subway lines and only 20 minutes to Manhattan. Peace and quiet, but also in an area renowned for its shops and restaurants.

Sleep on all new mattresses (2011 and 2012) with fresh cotton linens. Real beds accommodate up to 5 people. Baby cot and high chair on site.
Parking is readily available on the streets of Fort Greene at no cost. Safe neighborhood with families, young professionals, artists, retirees and many who have lived in the neighborhood for a long time. This is charming Brooklyn living at its best.
•Private, independent apartment with outdoor space/garden
•2 bedrooms, 1 newly renovated bathroom with tub/shower
•Sleeps up to 5 people; kid-friendly with cot and high chair
•Central location near 12 subway lines, 20 min. to Manhattan
•Fully equipped kitchen
•Wifi, cable TV, microwave, dishwasher
Upon entry, there is a hallway for storage of your stroller (if you have little ones). Double doors to the apartment lead to a very large living/dining room, 13 x 24 feet, with windows looking out onto our peaceful, tree-lined street. Furnishings: sofa for 2-3 people, a daybed that doubles as a single bed for overflow guests, two comfortable armchairs, and tables, a long, contemporary dining table with dining chairs, a new 32" flat screen Sony TV with cable, an antique sideboard topped with a slab of white marble, including guidebooks and maps of NYC.
In the center of the apartment, with a cut-out (pass-through) connecting it to the living room, the kitchen is huge by NY standards, 13 x 10 feet. It contains a stove with oven and broiler, refrigerator, microwave, large sink, dishwasher, electric kettle, toaster and many cupboards storing every kind of kitchen utensil and cookware you may need. Ample counter space, including two long, stainless steel professional kitchen counters.
A small hallway leads to the large bedroom with a new (2011) queen-size bed, huge closet and views on the garden. There is an air-conditioner in the bottom part of one of the two windows (in summer). Reading lamps and bedside tables on either side of the bed. A desk with lamp and chair and a dresser makes this a well-equipped, perfect bedroom hideaway. There is also a full-length mirror.
Continuing through the hallway is a small bedroom with a new (2012) single bed and extra single bed trundle stored underneath. Closet and doorway to garden. We have a portable crib with sheet, should you need it. The small bedroom has just enough space to fit baby cot and/or the trundle single bed. This is useful if you have kids and want them in their own room. NOTE: this is a very small bedroom and it's a tight squeeze to put extra bed in here! But it works.
In January 2012, we did a gut renovation of the bathroom. It is beautiful and modern, with green-flecked Terrazzo floor tiles, white subway tiles, bathtub with shower, a large, white Caesar Stone counter and under-mount sink. Grohe faucets. Hooks and towel bars. A high-quality exhaust fan that is very quiet and efficient.
Visit the famous Brooklyn Flea a few blocks away, the Olmsted designed park at the end of the block (with jogging paths, playgrounds, tennis courts), or the bustling Farmer's Market on the edge of the park. The neighborhood is filled with interesting restaurants, bars and shops. I grew up in New York City and lived in Paris for 10 years and I can tell you this is my favorite neighborhood, anywhere. Ever!
Near all major subway lines (12 different subways!) and only 20 minutes to busy downtown Manhattan, one stop away on the Q train. Walking distance to other great Brooklyn neighborhoods such as Park Slope, restaurant row in Cobble Hill and Prospect Heights, Pratt Institute, the mansions of Clinton Hill, the urban grit of Vinegar Hill and DUMBO.
Toasty: Brooklyn at its very best.
Check-in is after 4 pm, with some flexibility depending on owner's schedule.
Check-out is 12 noon. Cleaning fee of $100 is mandatory.
No smoking in the apartment.
If you break something - or something breaks - please let us know. It's nice for the next guest to have everything in working order, and we're not happy to find surprises... Thanks!
We live in a residential neighborhood. We ask that you respect our neighbors and the peacefulness of our block by limiting use of the garden after 9 pm and before 8 am. The sound of voices and music carries across Brooklyn backyards.
Nan's place was great! She was such a caring host and the apartment was absolutely lovely. The location is in a great part of Brooklyn (easily walkable to a subway) and more importantly I got a really great night's rest because the neighborhood was super quiet (at least by New York standards!)
We absolutely loved our stay. Nan and Gerard are the most welcoming hosts I've ever experienced in Airbnb! The apartment is clean, spacious but cosy and felt like home. It's nice and quiet so we always got a good nights sleep in, what was a very comfy bed. Fort Greene is a lovely area with some wonderful places to eat, Nan also provided us with a fantastic and very helpful glossary of what was best where. It's only a short subway trip to Manhattan and as we were there working it was a great place to come home to in the evening. I couldn't recommend it enough and my only reason for not doing so would be to keep it for myself and family! Thank you Nan and Gerard for a great stay and introduction into the best neighbourhood!
Realmente pasamos unos días espléndidos.
Nan y Gerardo son dos excelentes anfitriones.
From the moment I made contact, Nan has been a superb host. Meeting us at Toasty, Nan let my family & I check in early. The place was as is in photos...warm, inviting & clean. Nan walked us through everything & left us a comprehensive list of places to eat, shop, do laundry & how to explore NY. Our adult daughters had the best time & although their room was tight...they loved being cosy. Our only regret was having to leave!!!! Nan & Gerard are the best hosts...even sharing in the festive season with us...Nan brought us down fairy lights & let my brother, sister in-law & niece share in the Christmas spirit by letting us host everyone on Christmas day. Toasty was by far the best home away from home. After exploring all New York has on offer, it was great to unwind from the noise of the city in the quietness of Forte Greene & the beautiful apartment Nan has created for her guests. We all look forward to returning & hoping Nan & her family take us up on our invitation to come to New Zealand so we can reciprocate! Thanks Nan et famille Doyle - Schmidt. Toasty Brooklyn is the best...you guys rock!!!!
The apartment was even better than we expected! Great location, super easy to get anywhere in the city on the subway and lots of local restaurants within walking distance. Very thoughtfully appointed with breakfast fixings, coffee/tea, and a crib, highchair, and huge bin of toys for our baby. Great size, especially for a family. Thanks for making our stay in Brooklyn so comfortable!
From the moment I arrived (late!) to Nan's beautiful apartment in Brooklyn I was sure I'd made the right choice about where to stay. The flat was beautiful and extremely spacious - so much so that many friends who stopped by marveled at the size. The location is perfect - a stone's throw from shops, bars, and transport. The apartment is also beautifully appointed and well stocked - which came in handy given I didn't venture out much with my baby son.
Nan was so accommodating and kind to me and my son. She checked in about halfway through our stay to make sure we were doing well and came by to help us leave. I'd stay here again in a heartbeat and plan to share details with a friend.
This is our second visit to Toasty and we certainly hope to come back. I especially appreciate Nan accommodating our toddler with toys and breakfast fixings upon our arrival. The apartment is warm, homey, clean and well appointed. Perfectly situated in Ft Greene near the parks and playgrounds and close to a number of subways for easy travel. Could not recommend more highly!
