The space

‘The little cottage comes with a wild and empty landscape and the peacefulness ensures the best nights sleep ever. The welcome and the chat in nearby Ardara comes for free, whilst the fantastic seafood at Nancy’s and the music and beer at the Corner House are priceless’. - Peter Lynch, author & travel writer

Whether it's romance or the need for some peace and quiet, this lovingly restored, traditional Irish cottage in the wilds of Donegal is the ideal hideaway. Set in an idyllic, remote valley, against a wild and dramatic landscape, it offers both unique location and stunning views combined with traditional charm, comfort, and warmth. Perfect for those who love nature and the outdoors.

The recently renovated cottage has two bedrooms, a living room, reception area, a galley kitchen with all modern cooking facilities and bathroom with shower and under floor heating. Step back in time with no TV or internet - the perfect place to unwind, read a book and cosy up by the fireside.

The nearby heritage village of Ardara (recently voted 'best village to live in Ireland' by the Irish Times) is just three miles from the cottage and boasts some of the best pubs in Ireland including the legendary Nancy’s Bar (serving sea food) and the Corner House Bar, which has live traditional music almost every night of the week.

Ardara, which lies next to the sea, is host to numerous events throughout the year including an international 'walking festival' in March. A bus service operates between Letterkenny, Donegal town and Ardara. A local taxi service is also available.

If you want to see a piece of Ireland that truly reflects a country life - then you must stay with Peter in Ardara. From the moment you hit the sheep track to the house, you will be captivated. With the peat fire place, old stone walls, and sheep bleating in the background, it's easy to forget the travails of modern life - yet it is a comfortable and easy to reach spot. Just minutes from the lovely town of Ardara - and an easy drive to many of Donegal's remarkable coastal highlights. Peter is a wonderful host - kind, interested and thoughtful. And most of what we saw that we loved best came via his helpful local knowledge. Make sure to pick his brain!!! And if you run into him at Nancy's, he's grand company over a pint or two. Anyone looking for a real Irish visit, this is the place to be!!!!

It's hard to put into words the beauty and peacefulness of this place. We loved Peter's cottage: the cozy fire, the view of the mountains, the quiet, the great nights sleep and more. The location, just a short drive from Ardara can't be beat. The village is a heritage town, a vibrant place with great music, food and woolen tweeds and knitwear. But the best part is going back to the cottage at the end of the day. This is a very, very special place, and Peter is a perfect host.

A magical 4 night stay in Peter's cottage. We hoped for "remote" and got it! Good communication, well equipped cottage and a perfect stay to unwind and explore the area.

This area of Donegal is beautiful, and Peter's cottage was a great place from which to explore it. The cottage is half a mile down a farm track, and fully away from roads, noise, light and prying eyes. Lovely and secluded: we even had a couple of sheep wander by the front of the cottage. The cottage itself was cosier / smaller than we had imagined, but was right-sized for two people. The bed was large and very comfortable - we slept well. The kitchen is tiny, but worked well for us for breakfasts (it would be more of a challenge for main meal preparation and tidy-up, but not at all impossible). The bathroom was serviceable, if a little tired, and the water was plentiful and hot. Back in the living room, which was the heart of the home, the wood-burning stove was kept on throughout our stay, keeping the place toasty and snug. Peter was a great host: very good at communicating, readily available when we needed him, and very careful to guard our privacy when we didn't. We appreciated that a lot. We would happily return. Thanks again.

The most beautifully located hideaway. Perfect for totally relaxation, walking and stunning views. Peter and all the locals made us so welcome and were so friendly. Going off grid for a long weekend is just what the Dr ordered. Perfect in every way. And Nancys bar is fantastic with excellent food.

Staying here is like traveling back in time. In a good way! You have all the amenities you need, but life just feels simpler. It was the perfect spot for my husband and I to spend a couple of days during our honeymoon. Very romantic! Peter was a great host. He gave us plenty of space but made us feel very welcome and at home. The area is fantastic too! Very remote. Lots to do and see but only if you want to venture out from this cozy little hideaway.
