‘The little cottage comes with a wild and empty landscape and the peacefulness ensures the best nights sleep ever. The welcome and the chat in nearby Ardara comes for free, whilst the fantastic seafood at Nancy’s and the music and beer at the Corner House are priceless’. - Peter Lynch, author & travel writer
Whether it's romance or the need for some peace and quiet, this lovingly restored, traditional Irish cottage in the wilds of Donegal is the ideal hideaway. Set in an idyllic, remote valley, against a wild and dramatic landscape, it offers both unique location and stunning views combined with traditional charm, comfort, and warmth. Perfect for those who love nature and the outdoors.
The recently renovated cottage has two bedrooms, a living room, reception area, a galley kitchen with all modern cooking facilities and bathroom with shower and under floor heating. Step back in time with no TV or internet - the perfect place to unwind, read a book and cosy up by the fireside.
The cottage is ideally suited to a couple/ and two children.
The nearby heritage village of Ardara (recently voted 'best village to live in Ireland' by the Irish Times) is just three miles from the cottage and boasts some of the best pubs in Ireland including the legendary Nancy’s Bar (serving sea food) and the Corner House Bar, which has live traditional music almost every night of the week.
Ardara, which lies next to the sea, is host to numerous events throughout the year including an international 'walking festival' in March. A bus service operates between Letterkenny, Donegal town and Ardara. A local taxi service is also available.

Thank you Peter for an amazing 3 days stay at your cottage. The cottage is truly wonderful - perfect for a quiet getaway. Upon arrival Peter had lit the fire for us (and helpfully gave us some free fire-lighting lessons!!) and the cottage was warm and cosy!! Ardara and the surrounding area is a beautiful place with lots of breathtaking places to see, good pubs to have a drink/eat in and friendly locals (Peter included!) We will definitely be returning later this year! : )
Peter's cottage was just awesome- we were even charmed into staying an extra night! We loved the coziness (as others have commented). We liked the small touches - fresh fruit waiting for us, the kooky sign on the bathroom door, and a well-stocked bookcase to dip into. The cottage is small but perfectly formed- with character, and atmosphere. Handy hint- stay a Thurs night and you can go to local pub quiz!
My girlfriend and I had an amazing time in Peter's cottage. He was willing to go the extra mile for us, and even had a fire lit for our arrival. We loved it and we'll definitely be back!
Staying at Peter's cottage was one of the most relaxing breaks away we've ever had. The scenery is breathtaking and very peaceful, we didn't hear a single noise. There was no phone/tv/internet which is why it was such a great weekend - relax, read a book and enjoy nature. We were worried it might be cold but Peter had the little stove going for us arriving and the place was toasty. There was wood and peat for us to keep a fire going which always kept the place feeling cosy. Really tidy little place with very comfy bed in a great location. Peter was a friendly host and showed us around on arrival, very easy to get on with. Maghera beach was one of the nicest we've seen. We'll be back! Thanks Peter!
A cottage in the middle of nowhere, exactly what it describes: a getaway. Great walks all around, weather permitting. A taxi ride away to a cute village with some authentic restaurants and bars. Peter was a great host; he went above and beyond on several occasions for us (including climbing through a small window when we locked ourselves out!). Highly recommended.
What a gorgeous cottage this is! Perfectly formed, it has amazing views out over the Donegal wilderness and is so cosy inside, as it is a 200-year-old farmers cottage - perfect for two writers who wanted to get away from everything (including TV and internet!). We stayed between Christmas and New Year and were a little worried it might be cold, but the cottage is actually quite cosy once you get the fire going. Peter provided us with plenty of fuel, blankets, a heated blanket and space heaters. The interior is done up with loads of books and historic knick-knacks. There is a large, comfy double bed and a small but cute kitchen with a convection oven, two hobs, kettle, toaster, fridge, etc. The bathroom was a little cold, but that was to be expected given it was the middle of winter. Peter himself is very kind and friendly - he made sure we could find the place (had a friend lead us there in his car, as the driveway is very difficult to find!) and gave us loads of information about the surrounding area, including to check out Nancy's Bar (great Guinness & oysters) as well as The Corner House for live music. Adara itself is a lovely little village - so friendly and peaceful. The cottage is a little less than a 10-minute drive, and it was about a 45-minute drive to the Slieve League cliffs. Stunning stay - paradise for hillwalkers and homebirds alike.
As others have said, Peter was a wonderful host, to the point of meeting us at Nancy's do we could follow him back to the cottage. The cottage is fantastic. It was the perfect end to our vacation, though a bit short. The Donegal area is a joy to explore, and it was very relaxing to come back to the Glendoan cottage after a day of sight seeing.
Ardara is a great little town, and Nancy's serves wonderful food, and the most enjoyable Guiness we had on out trip.
All in all I would not hesitate to recommend the cottage, the area, or the host. Hopefully we can make it back some day, and hopefully Peter will still be renting out this cottage.
As already mentioned from a few others before - Peter is a great host. He was very kind and helped us planning our daytrips.
The cottage is the best place to slow down and relax. The landscpae around it is stunningly beautiful, you can perfectly go for a walk for hours and you will only meet dozens of these cute sheeps, we loved it :-)
The cottage has everything you need if you can get yourself into reading and talking instead of watching TV or (website hidden), (website hidden) and so on. We will definitely come back and stay a few days longer the next time since the area around Donegal / Ardara has a lot to offer!
Feeling so happy and blessed I could stay in Peter's beautiful cottage - the perfect place to unwind, relax and forget all about work. Like others mentioned before - Peter is a perfect host and has done such an amazing job doing up this cottage, which was beyond my expectations of modern conveniences - including a great shower, perfectly equiped kitchen and cozy fireplace. I would recommend anyone who want's to leave every day life behind and take a break in this stunning scenery of Donegal to stay there. I will be back for sure!
Beautiful wild setting and historic cottage, but with hot showers and comfy, warm bedrooms -- the best of both worlds. Host adds extras like fires glowing the Franklin stove to greet you. Lovely! Ardara close by and charming. Drop by Eddie Doherty's to meet him and his sweet wife and to watch him weave.
