‘The little cottage comes with a wild and empty landscape and the peacefulness ensures the best nights sleep ever. The welcome and the chat in nearby Ardara comes for free, whilst the fantastic seafood at Nancy’s and the music and beer at the Corner House are priceless’. - Peter Lynch, author & travel writer
Whether it's romance or the need for some peace and quiet, this lovingly restored, traditional Irish cottage in the wilds of Donegal is the ideal hideaway. Set in an idyllic, remote valley, against a wild and dramatic landscape, it offers both unique location and stunning views combined with traditional charm, comfort, and warmth. Perfect for those who love nature and the outdoors.
The recently renovated cottage has two bedrooms, a living room, reception area, a galley kitchen with all modern cooking facilities and bathroom with shower and under floor heating. Step back in time with no TV or internet - the perfect place to unwind, read a book and cosy up by the fireside.
IMPORTANT: The cottage is ideally suited to a couple/ plus two children max. Due to its size, it is NOT suitable for FOUR adults.
The nearby heritage village of Ardara (recently voted 'best village to live in Ireland' by the Irish Times) is just three miles from the cottage and boasts some of the best pubs in Ireland including the legendary Nancy’s Bar (serving sea food) and the Corner House Bar, which has live traditional music almost every night of the week.
Ardara, which lies next to the sea, is host to numerous events throughout the year including an international 'walking festival' in March. A bus service operates between Letterkenny, Donegal town and Ardara. A local taxi service is also available.
Interaction with Guests
I am normally present, staying in wooden cabin next door. I can guarantee you will have total privacy during your stay but my door is always open if you need advice or local information.
Good reliable taxi service to local village.
No smoking and no pets.
The cottage exceeded our expectations, the scenery was just breathtaking and the place was quaint, cosy and in excellent condition. Peter was there to welcome us and provided invaluable hints and insights of where to go and what to do. The walking tour to Dylan Thomas' writing retreat was the absolute highlight of our holiday. Thanks Peter for a fab time!
We spent three perfect days in Peter's beautiful cottage near Ardara in Donegal. If you're looking to get away from the hustle and bustle of daily life this is the spot for you.
The cottage is nestled in the wild Donegal hills without another house in sight. The house itself is very cosy once the the heaters are turned on and there's a fire in the stove. It does get very cold a night in Donegal (we were there in February) but that's nothing a hot water bottle and roaring fire won't solve. The bathroom also gets cold but there's plenty of hot water in the shower to warm up under.
The surrounding countryside is truly breathtaking with great spots for cycling and hiking nearby. Ardara is a lovely town and our meal in Nancy's lived up to expectations.
Peter and his brother Adam were great hosts (they were staying next door) and it was a pleasure getting to know them both over a bottle of red wine.
Thank you both for the much needed break from work and city life!
We enjoyed the days in the cottage . Nature is amazing and we could always count on the help of Adam . The kitchen has everything for cooking, the beds are very comfortable. It even has a small library. just great
Brilliant experience. Cottage perfectly as described and was everything we wanted for a cosy getaway. Fantastic to have a stove in the depths of winter and a ready supply of wood, turf and coal was on hand. Peter was exceptionally helpful and pointed us towards the best of the local sights and sounds!
We had a wonderful time at the cottage! It was a unique experience - very tranquil. Peter was always there when we needed him. We had no trouble keeping warm, even in December. Ardara is a cute little town - we loved Nancy's Bar!
Really enjoyed our time in the cottage - Peter went above and beyond in welcoming us to the cottage.
The pictures don't do the cottage justice - it really is like taking a step back to the 19th century.
I have no hesitation in recommending Peter as a host and the cottage as a unique and memorable place to stay.
My boyfriend and I had a fantastic time staying with Peter! He was more than kind and helpful from the moment we arrived. His place was more than beautiful and probably the most romantic place I have stayed at my entire life. We had two lovely nights staying in Ardara, one of which we spent having a good talk with Peter and his friends over Guiness at the local Pub. He kindly organised a ride to the cottage and back as we did not have a car. We highly recommend staying in the cottage. We would have loved to stay much longer!
