The Space

Skellig Rest Cottage is nestled in an elevated position on the Ring of Kerry overlooking Ballinskelligs Bay and the Skellig rocks; it is adjacent to Coomakista pass between the village of Waterville and Caherdaniel.

We have an enviable location amidst spectacular scenery, flora and panoramic sea and mountain views.

The Kerry Way walking trail is right at the end of our garden, one of the most scenic trails in Ireland, with Loher Stone Fort situated just below us.

We are in an idyllic location to explore this amazing area which is renowned for its miles of golden beaches and turquoise water. There are beautiful walking and hiking trails, two world class golf courses, some of the best salmon and sea trout angling in Europe.
STAR GAZE AT SKELLIG REST
The cottage is in the core area of Kerrys International Dark Sky Reserve, its the oly Gold Tier Reserve in the world of the Northern Hemisphere and 1 of 3 on the planet.Meaning that on clear nights the sky in this South West Region of Ireland is simply stunning, with many more astronomical sights seen through the naked eye as can be seen , in say the Grand Canyon or the desert plains of Africa. Constellations can be viewed here with many, many more stars than are shown on the usual sky maps. The band of the Milky Way,Andromeda Galaxy,Star Clusters and Nebulas are just some of the naked eye wonders to see without the aid of any astronomical equipment or filters.Go Satellite watching, Moon gazing, Planet hunting, or simply glory in the wonder of the falling stars.

Skellig Rest sleeps 5, it comprises of two double bed rooms with Roll away for 5th person with panoramic mountain and sea views, both with designer ceramic hand basins, feather duvets and quality bed linen.

The bathroom has an antique hip bath and designer hand basin.
The living room also commands amazing views, and has a wood burning stove. Logs are provided for your use.

The traditional kitchen is fully equipped with all the modern conveniences.

To the rear of the house is a toilet and utility room.

  • Mairead was a fantastic host. We arrived late in the evening and she was still available to receive us and do a walk-through of everything we needed to know and was available if we ever needed anything. Mairead also was more than willing to give recommendations of things to do and places to go, all of which were fantastic! The cottage was in an amazing and easy to find location with breathtaking views and I will more than happily recommend this to anyone else.
