ON HIGHLINE! Private room & bath

Apartment - Private room · Tenth Ave, New York, NY 10011, United States

Enjoy the privacy and comfort of your own bedroom and bathroom in our 125 year old townhouse, located directly on the beautiful High Line in Chelsea.

The Space

Upon arriving in our home, you will settle into the privacy and comfort of your own bedroom and private bathroom. Our building, a 125 year old townhouse located in the heart of Chelsea, consists of 2,500 sq feet (232 sq meters) of soaring atrium ceilings, tons of natural light, and spacious comfort. We live directly on the High Line among Chelsea's many art galleries, bookstores, and quiet green spaces. We're just one block east of the Hudson River, where extensive biking and jogging trails, a world class sports center, and rolling lawns of open park space are at your fingertips. Within walking distance are numerous restaurants, grocery stores, shops, post offices, banks, bicycle rental agencies, 24-hour pharmacies, etc. Public transportation is excellent in the neighborhood: the M11 bus to the Upper West Side stops in front of our building (with service to Midtown, the Museum of Natural History, Central Park, Columbia University, Harlem, etc.), and the E and C subway lines are just two blocks east (the E train is a very economical and convenient way to get to/from LGA and JFK airports). The M23 crosstown bus stops across the street from our building, traveling to the East River and stopping at all the Avenues along the way. The Flat Iron Building, the Meatpacking District, the West Village, and Penn Station are all minutes away on foot.
Our place is divided into two stories, with the guest bedroom, full guest bathroom, immense kitchen, and open living room located on the lower level (consisting of 1250 sq feet---see photos). Other than the occasional trip to the shared kitchen, we do our utmost to enhance our guests' visit by remaining on the upper level (where our two hooligan cats prefer to stay except for their feeding time in the kitchen). A continental breakfast consisting of coffee, tea, juice, yogurt, breads, jams, butter, and honey is provided in the morning. Guests may utilize the refrigerator and freezer, microwave oven, gas stove, iron/ironing board, and cooking utensils. The clothes washer is available only with our supervision at a cost of $7 per load of wash. We only ask that guests treat our home as if it were their own, just as we do when we travel and are hosted by others.
The guest bedroom offers state-of-the-art full blackout window shades, a large closet with hangers, a set of chest of drawers, a DVD-capable flat screen LED high definition television with cable, Netflix, HBO, and Showtime, and two single beds with Sealy mattresses and Egyptian cotton sheets (640 thread count). The beds can easily be placed side by side to accommodate couples. Maximum capacity is two. The bedroom is on the west side of the building, so it is protected from the ambient noise of the busy avenue. The full bathroom is dedicated to guest use and is located next to the guest bedroom; it offers a shower, hair dryer, and basic essentials for a "hotel-like" stay (i.e., shampoo, soap, razors, toothbrushes, etc.). We take pride in providing a super clean environment, including (of course!) fresh bath towels and bedding.
The apartment is a walk-up without elevator. However, there is only one and a half flights of stairs to negotiate to our floor. The building does not offer handicap access. Wireless internet is free and fax/printing service is available.
The rules of the house are: no parties, no entertaining strangers at night, no smoking, and absolutely no drugs. We open our home to guests with the understanding that we will respect each other's desire for copacetic cohabitation. We provide as much privacy and tranquility as our guests desire, yet we are also happy to share a bottle of wine, to break bread together, and to discuss Manhattan, travel, culture, etc. Above all, we want our guests to enjoy their stay in our home and to return often! 2 night minimum stay please.

Guest Access

Guests enjoy access to a private bedroom, private bathroom, the kitchen, and living room.

Interaction with Guests

As much or as little as our guests like. We will cross paths occasionally in the kitchen, however :)

The Neighborhood

Chelsea is a truly special neighborhood in Manhattan because of its art galleries, the High Line, the restaurants, the convenient public transportation, the beauty of the Hudson River, the gorgeous architecture, and the sense of community shared by the residents.

Getting around

Public transportation is among the best in our immediate neighborhood. Also, getting to/from the three airports is very easy. From LGA, take the Q70 LTD bus (i.e., the express bus to Roosevelt St). At Roosevelt, transfer to the E subway toward Manhattan (total cost $2.50). From JFK, take the AirTrain to Jamaica Station. Transfer to the E subway toward Manhattan (total cost $7.50). From EWR, take the AirTrain to the airport train depot. Transfer to the NJ Rail to Manhattan's Penn Station (total cost app. $13.00 per person). Then, take the E subway downtown one stop, or take a taxi to our home. You can also walk from Penn Station if the weather is nice. From the E subway train, exit at 23 Street station in Manhattan. Walk two blocks to Tenth Ave. We live near the northwest corner of Tenth Ave and 23 St.

  • Art and Ed couldn't be better hosts. We arrived tired and hungry after a long journey from Australia to be greeted with a roaring fire, two very welcoming hosts and the offer of dinner! We had a great evening and this set us up perfectly for the rest of our stay.

The apartment itself was beautiful: great location (quiet and central), very comfortable, and Art and Ed are amazingly thoughtful with all the little extras they do for you. We would both love to stay there again.

A bientot!

  • A match made in heaven. Art & Ed go out of their way to make you welcome and comfortable. As an older couple, we liked the separate twin beds which were very comfortable though the room is small. The private bath was clean and stocked with quality products. Lots of variety in breakfast products, and free run of the well equipped kitchen. We spent evenings enjoying a fire in the living room and talking to our hosts. Chelsea is a vibrant neighborhood, close to public transportation and many restaurants. Our bedroom overlooked the Highline, the old elevated railway which has been converted to a lovely walkway. Our hosts were generous, thoughtful and very helpful suggesting places to go and things to do. This was truly a 5 star experience.

  • Great location with direct acces to High Line, nice neighbourhood, very nice hosts that can speak French :-) and give great tips, the house is very cute and well maintained, high quality bed. All you need for a perfect stay in magic New York city. I was there 3 nights with my friend and two on my own.

  • Art and Ed's home is a beautiful, classic NYC brownstone with high ceilings, tall windows, fireplace, and large kitchen. It is centered in the heart of Chelsea, in the heart of the art gallery district. And the new darling of NYC, the High Line, struts across the back windows of this home. You are surrounded in beauty and right in the midst of Chelsea.
Art and Ed are gracious people. Throughout our stay, they gave us a mixture of privacy and entertainment. They are storytellers and art collectors. In front of their fireplace, I learned from their stories and from their art books the history of many successful artists. This was a perfect segue from these stories and out to the galleries right around the corner.
Art and Ed are kind as well. My husband came down with a sinus cold while staying with them. Ed made his famous chicken soup - twice - for my husband.
Art and Ed are lovely people and this is a lovely place to stay.

Ed received his undergraduate degree at University of Florida and his DDS at Emory. I received my undergraduate degree from Vanderbilt University and my Ph.D. from University of Miami in Florida.
Along with Ed (my better half, pictured on the right), I strive to build a growing base of happy and loyal AirBnB clients. We're both fairly quiet guys: I have a doctoral degree and enjoy researching/writing, and Ed is a retired dentist now working in Manhattan real estate. We're very tidy, laid back, and respectful of guests' desire for the same. We're also very proud of New York City and are always happy to share our knowledge of the city's history and offerings. Traveling to world capitals and exotic places is our passion: I speak French and Portuguese fluently, and Ed speaks Spanish. We absolutely love hosting guests from all over the world, and we're always happy to interact with guests as much or as little as they like, so conversation over a bottle of wine is always welcome!
