About this listing
Enjoy the privacy of your own bedroom and bathroom in our sun-drenched 125 year old townhouse, located directly on the beautiful High Line in Chelsea. Our home is optimally situated for exploring Manhattan. Guest quarters comfortably accommodate two.
Upon arriving in our home, you will settle into the privacy and comfort of your own bedroom and your own private bathroom. Our home, a 125 year old townhouse located in the heart of Chelsea, consists of 2,500 sq feet (232 sq meters) of soaring atrium ceilings, tons of natural light, and spacious comfort. We live directly on the High Line among Chelsea's many art galleries, bookstores, and quiet green spaces. We're just one block east of the Hudson River, where extensive biking and jogging trails, a world class sports center, and rolling lawns of open park space are at your fingertips. Within walking distance are numerous restaurants, grocery stores, shops, post offices, banks, bicycle rental agencies, 24-hour pharmacies, etc.
Public transportation is excellent in the neighborhood: the M11 bus to the Upper West Side stops in front of our building (with service to Midtown, the Museum of Natural History, Central Park, Columbia University, Harlem, etc.), and the E and C subway lines are just two blocks east (the E train is a very economical and convenient way to get to/from LGA and JFK airports). The M23 crosstown bus stops across the street from our building, traveling to the East River and stopping at all the Avenues along the way. The Flat Iron Building, the Meatpacking District, the West Village, and Penn Station are all minutes away on foot.
Our place is divided into two stories, with the guest bedroom, full guest bathroom, immense kitchen, and open living room located on the lower level (consisting of 1250 sq feet---see photos). Other than the occasional trip to the shared kitchen, we do our utmost to enhance our guests' visit by remaining on the upper level (where our two hooligan cats prefer to stay except for their feeding time in the kitchen). A continental breakfast consisting of coffee, tea, juice, yogurt, breads, jams, and butter is provided in the morning. Guests may utilize the refrigerator and freezer, microwave oven, gas stove, iron/ironing board, and cooking utensils. The clothes washer is available only with our supervision at a cost of $7 per load of wash. We only ask that guests treat our home as if it were their own, just as we do when we travel and are hosted by others.
The guest bedroom offers full blackout window shades, a large closet with hangers, a set of chest of drawers, a DVD-capable flat screen LED high definition television with cable, and two single beds with Sealy mattresses and Egyptian cotton sheets (640 thread count). Maximum capacity is two. The bedroom is on the west side of the building, so it is protected from the ambient noise of the busy avenue. The full bathroom is dedicated solely to guest use and is located next to the guest bedroom; it offers a shower, hair dryer, and basic essentials for a "hotel-like" stay (i.e., shampoo, soap, razors, toothbrushes, etc.). We take pride in providing a super clean environment, including (of course!) fresh bath towels and bedding.
The apartment is a walk-up without elevator. However, there is only one and a half flights of stairs to negotiate to our floor. The building does not offer handicap access. Wireless internet is included. **Because our building does not have a doorman, we cannot receive packages for guests either before or during their stay.**
The rules of the house are: no parties, no entertaining strangers at night, no smoking, and absolutely no drugs. We open our home to guests with the understanding that we will respect each other's desire for copacetic cohabitation. We provide as much privacy and tranquility as our guests desire, yet we are also happy to share a bottle of wine, to break bread together, and to discuss Manhattan, travel, culture, etc. Above all, we want our guests to enjoy their stay in our home and to return often! Two night minimum stay, please.

Getting to/from the three airports is very easy. From LGA, take the Q70 LTD bus (i.e., the express bus to Roosevelt Ave). At Roosevelt, transfer to the E subway toward Manhattan (total cost $2.75). From JFK, take the AirTrain to Jamaica Station. Transfer to the E subway toward Manhattan (total cost $7.75). From EWR, take the AirTrain to the airport train depot. Transfer to the NJ Rail to Manhattan's Penn Station (total cost app. $13.00 per person). Then, take the E subway downtown one stop, or take a taxi to our home. You can also walk from Penn Station if the weather is nice. From the E subway train, exit at 23 Street station in Manhattan. Walk two blocks to Tenth Ave. We live a few steps from the northwest corner of Tenth Ave and W 23 St. Also, the MegaBus drop off point is within walking distance of our home.
Guests enjoy access to a private bedroom, private bathroom, the shared kitchen, and shared living room.
Interaction with guests
As much or as little as our guests like. We will cross paths occasionally in the kitchen, however :)
Other things to note
Due to complications with receiving packages, we cannot receive deliveries for Airbnb guests. Please do not ask to have packages delivered before or during a reservation. Thank you:)
Please treat our home as you would have others treat your own. You are welcome to come and go as you please (i.e., no curfews). The kitchen and living room are at your disposal. No entertaining outside guests, smoking, or playing loud music. The use of illicit drugs is strictly forbidden. Use of the clothes washer is available with our supervision and at a cost of $7 per load (regretfully, we found this measure necessary after our machine was accidentally broken by a guest). Our building has stairs and is therefore not suitable for small children.

Along with Ed (my better half, pictured on the right), I strive to build a growing base of happy and loyal AirBnB clients. We're both fairly quiet guys: I have a doctoral degree and enjoy researching/writing, and Ed is a retired dentist now working in Manhattan real estate. We're very tidy, laid back, and respectful of guests' desire for the same. We're also very proud of New York City and are always happy to share our knowledge of the city's history and offerings. Traveling to world capitals and exotic places is our passion: I speak French and Portuguese fluently, and Ed speaks Spanish. We absolutely love hosting guests from all over the world, and we're always happy to interact with guests as much or as little as they like, so conversation over a bottle of wine is always welcome!
