Devon's house is amazing! It has views of Melbourne and the bay from an huge deck with outdoor teak table and seating and a huge brolly that feels like it is in the clouds
On arrival Devon carried our bags up the driveway. The rooms had lovely candles burning in them and it was spotlessly clean. I slept in the king size bed and it was the best!
We brought our dog, Muffy, a mastiff x that we couldn't take anywhere else and it was right at home there.
Devon made us feel welcome from the time we arrived and afforded us the privacy we expected. He made his home ours and we did....
I cannot recommend this place highly enough and we are going back in March with my wife's family for a wedding.....
Devon's house is lovely and the sunset view from his deck is stunning. The king size bed is so comfy. Devon's super friendly and we were amazing by all of the seasonings and herbs for cooking he has! We also got great recommendations from him. His 2 dogs are so adorable!
Devon, our host, was a most gracious, funny and informative host. He welcomed us by helping unload (most appreciated because the driveway is a little steep) and readily put his home at our disposal. The shared quarters were comprised of kitchen, dining room and large lounge, which were necklaced by balconies and decks from which to appreciate the surrounding greenery and views. It was a bit windy when we were there but it would be great to sit out on the balcony to enjoy a summer evening or two. The two bedrooms we rented were spacious and comfortable and my bed allowed for an excellent night's sleep.
Devon was a most knowledgeable host and gave us many travelling tips, not only about the Peninsula, but for further afield as well. We took him up on some of his suggestions and had a thoroughly enjoyable stay. One suggestion was to walk out to Point Nepean where we were lucky enough to see an echidna. What a treat! Another highlight of the trip was a half day luxuriating at the Mornington Peninsula Hot Springs, about a kilometre or two from Devon’s. The tip is to get there as close to opening as possible (7:30am) and then just sit back, relax and soak in the healthy minerals and inhale the fresh air as you wander from pool to pool. I’ve been to Japan and spent time in many an onsen and this easily equals the best of them.
Our trip back to Melbourne had us stop of at the Mock Biodynamic Farm in Red Hills to purchase apple cider vinegar and sparkling cider, followed by a wonderful tapas lunch of home grown veggies and lamb at Green Olive (a few hundred metres down the road) and then afternoon tea at Diggers Heirloom Seeds and Plants at Dromana.
As you can see we had a wonderful time on the Peninsula, and thank Devon for his hospitable contribution to that. If you’re in search of shared, comfortable and affordable accommodation with a friendly, down-to-earth, informed and funny host, then Devon's place is the place for you!
Devon and Valerie made us feel very comfortable. The house is lovely, comfy and nicely furnished with amazing views from the deck.
Devon was very easy to communicate with and very helpful. We had to stay inside the whole Saturday, Devon and Valerie let us use their living room the whole day.
You can easily go to Rye for dinner or to the Peninsula hot springs that are only 10min away. We highly recommend staying with Devon.
Plus, his two dogs are so cute.
Thanks for an awesome review :-)
I wasn't aware that the internet was dropping in and out. I would have rebooted the router and put it in a better position that would probably improve the situation. Sorry about that.
If you head this way again, may I suggest a winery tour?
This house in Rye is great; comfortable relaxed sleeping quarters and a stunning entertainment area. It's worth going just for the view over the ocean and the balcony which wraps around two sides of the top floor of the house.
There are plenty of places to visit a short drive away and the host can let you know a few locals secrets.
Devon is a very attentive host, very friendly and loves a good chat.
