As a special request, it would be great if you could make use of the many coasters we have around our place, instead of putting cups and glasses on directly on our wood furniture.
Dani and Dave's place was a cozy eclectic home away from home! It was a comfy place for us to come back, cook dinner, and rest. It is a really inexpensive travel option, considering how much space and comfort this apartment afforded! There isn't much to do in the immediate neighborhood, but its superbly close to the metro (5 min walk), which made it easy to go out for full days of exploration (10 min to the loop) downtown. The internet was a bit slow, but doable. Its a good idea to get back at night on the early side.
Dani and Dave's place was perfect for me and two friends. Dani was very helpful and accommodating, especially since we came in the same day that another guest was leaving. There were snacks left for us, and the place was a warm refuge from the cold. Make sure to bring your own laptop if you plan on watching TV or using the internet. We misunderstood the listing regarding the use of a computer. Also be aware if you have allergies, there was a lot of dust.
Pilsen offered exactly what was described. We had some great Mexican food and had breakfast at a quintessential diner the morning we left town. The location of the apartment was great and very easy to get everywhere around town with the Pink line so close by. I would stay here again!
It was great to have our 'own' appartment to explore Chicago. When we arrived they had cereal and snacks, which we appreciated. We were able to watch movies through some internet account they had, we liked that very much. We felt safe when walking around the neighborhood, grocerystores are closeby, as well as places to eat.
It's a cozy place, maybe not super tidy/clean (some doghair) but that didn't really bother us. We only met Dani, but she seemed very nice and relaxed. Thank you for showing us around!
We never actually met Dani and/or Dave, but they were fairly responsive and very accommodating for our trip. They knew that we weren't going to be there, so they made the necessary arrangements and made sure everything was set for our early arrival and let us know. The place isn't for everyone, but it had some character, and was cozy, affordable, and pretty close to everything. Everything was clean and tidy when we got there and it had everything we needed and some more. The only thing is that if you're allergic to cats or dogs, this place isn't for you. It's nothing out of the ordinary for pet owners, though. Dani and Dave also have a train maps and an assortment of pamphlets on good spots and sights in Chicago that they have out in the apartment, which was great. And downtown is just a few stops away on the pink line. Pilsen is a cool neighborhood and had a lot of neat things and this apartment is just a few minutes walk from most of it. There were cool thrift stores and a lot of really fantastic Spanish bakeries for delicious morning pastries if desired. Would definitely recommend!
I rented the room not the house. Room was clean and the bed was comfortable. Hosts were very nice. Chicago was very cold but the house was always warm. Would stay again.
I really enjoyed staying in Dani and Dave's place. It was cozy and cute. It's probably not for everybody--it's more funky than fancy--with lots of great posters, salvaged signs, old records, books, etc. It reminds me a lot of my favorite uncle and aunt's house, and I felt really at home. For the most part, they were very welcoming and helpful, leaving me cereal, milk, and coffee. They're also helping me get back a couple of small items I mistakenly left behind. We did have small communication when a man came by to do some finishing touches on a recent repair (I think Dani and Dave thought they'd communicated with me about it, but I don't think I heard from them). I didn't know he was coming, but he was friendly, and done very soon and after that, I had the place to myself.
Somebody left a review saying the tub was moldy, and again, this place is probably not for everybody. But I agree that the place isn't moldy or dirty--it's quite tidy. It's just lived in, and some of the things I find charming--the vintage porcelain sink, and painted vintage credenza--others might not find fancy.
I really liked Pilsen the neighorhood. The Pink train is really close. There are grocery stores and shopping a few blocks to the west, and the more active, hip, Pilsen town center a few blocks to the East. Again, nobody would describe the neighborhood as fancy--but it's cute and very family oriented--with a lot of interesting architecture going back to the turn of the century.
The apartment is very good! We can use the kitchen and laundry which is very convenient. The apartment is 8-10 mins walk from the pink line.
