Historic Pad w/ Terrace in Top Area

Apartment - Entire home/apt · Vicolo della Renella, Rome, Lazio 00153, Italy

The Space

A super central, super clean & well maintained charming tiny 1 bedroom apt with good bathroom and large shower in an ancient Roman building in the historic center.

I used to call it "small" and for Europeans the size of the place will be as expected for an inexpensive one bedroom apartment in Rome's top entertainment location. But for people from the US, used to more space, I put "tiny" so you don't get any unwanted surprises.

[I also offer a place nearby (called Fiamettina) that is a little bigger - see link https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/overview/843804. ]

You choose which of these small and inexpensive places for two suit you best. The MiniRenella Historic pad is small but has a separate bedroom and terrace, the Super Central Fiametta has one larger bedroom, is roomier with better kitchen, and is right near the wonderful Piazza Navona. Both are great and you get the CasaPicard service with both.

The listing you are on now -- The MiniRenella Historic Pad -- boasts a great eat-out terrace with table for 4, a large plasma screen, apple TV, free bikes, and we keep adding whatever we think you'll like. The location is the absolute tops for Rome. Don't believe a word I say -- read the reviews! Note, however that the place is a SMALL apartment (30m2 + 15m2 terrace). You don't get a real living room - but a combination entrance/kitchenette area with a small table and pullout couch. But see what people say...so far everyone says they were very comfortable. Compared to a hotel room - this like a home in Rome.

There's a kitchenette for basic cooking, Very fast free FASTWEB WIFI and all the mod coms we could squeeze in. The bedroom and bathrooms (nice full shower) are good sized but the salon/kitchen is very small -- yet the overall package is delightful - you'll feel like you are in your own little home in Rome. This apartment is actually the separate independent guest wing of a 1200s Nobleman's residence. The other wing is now a huge 3 bedroom loft and can be connected to make a 5 bedroom 4 bathroom mega-pad.

The LOCATION is ideal: walk to everything and in the heart of the restaurant/fun area of Rome. There are zillions of breakfast places & restaurant within 2 minutes walk. This is a surprisingly quiet apartment as it gives onto the inner courtyard in a quiet back street. Our dedicated cleaner will ensure you find it clean & ready for you.

If "cute, inside-outside, historic and with a great location" sounds right try this one -I've kept the price low so more can enjoy it.

We recently added Apple TV and bikes - now we just installed a washing machine. I'm available to advise and answer any questions. We have a staff of two cleaners and two hosts - plus a handy-man - to keep things running well. I really hope you'll like it as much as previous guests say they did.

You'll find me happy to answer all your questions. My team can arrange airport transfers, Roman tours, walks, bikes, vespa excursions and anything else you could ask for.

Enjoy this ancient pad with its modern twist.

ps: if you are up for adventure, I sometimes fly from Barcelona to Rome and back with seaplaneflyers company. It is a free adventure meetup and we just share gasoline. I have a airbnb listing for the plane but that is a different thing... Sounds crazy? well, it's definitely fun - and you'll have a blast in Rome. Just tap into our local knowledge.

  • It's perfectly located in the heart of Trastevere (Old Town) in a beautiful 13th century building. I had some really lovely breakfasts on the spacious terrace. It's a really nice place because even though it's right in the center it's still really quite and calm with the windows facing the yard.
Really recommend the Picards as hosts and Martin was very engaged in my needs as a visitor.

    Response from Martin:

Thanks Vincent! The tips you provided will be helping the next guests for months to come!

  • Great location, and plenty of information from the hosts. Trastevere has so many interesting cafes and restaurants , you are spoilt for choice! The flat is small as indicated, I wouldn't suggest more than two people.

The only down side was the floor needed a mop- as indicated by my grubby feet! This was a very minor downside.

    Response from Martin:

Thanks Sam for the nice words. Ah...a few folks besides yourself have mistaken the brown wax that protects the ancient cotto floors with "requiring a mop"...but no, the floors are highly clean and treated and sometimes in very hot weather can give that impression on white socks.

I'm really glad you enjoyed the super vivacious and charming area that we live in. It's like a village from long ago.

  • We had a very pleasant stay at Martin Picard's pad. The appartment is tiny but it worked out absolutely fine for us as we spent most time outside. We had breakfast in the apartment every morning.
Martin provided all kinds of information to us before and during our stay and his sister was available for any kind of inquiry while we were in Rome. She provided us with some really useful advise.

  • This apartment is in the perfect place in Rome. Martin and his sister Elizabeth are the best roman hosts possible. They know where and what to eat (since they grew up there). The also know what to see especially the things you could not know without the knowledge of a local and their exuberance to pass it along. This was the perfect place for the romantic week in Rome I had with my girlfriend. Next time I visit I will bring the party and stay in the entire villa. It is beautiful.

  • Renella apartment is located in a wonderful environment, also a convenient location. Martin is a superb host, present even from a distance, and Rossana a great neighbor.

  • It's a perfect jumping off point for touring Rome! Trestavere is such a cool part of the city -- less touristy, more atmospheric than other parts, yet just across the bridge from major sites.
My husband and I found ourselves with several extra days in Rome due to a tropical storm and cancelled flight and Martin was very responsive to our last-minute request! We ended up getting to the flat earlier than anticipated but had the good luck to bump into Barbara who lives just downstairs. Without a second thought, she ushered us into her apartment, fed us and gave us wine while she contacted the woman who could let us in. She was so helpful and very kind!
To top it off, she offers cooking classes! She showed us how to make half a dozen authentic Italian dishes, sharing her secrets for amazing food! We can't wait to cook for our friends and families!
Her husband is a wine maker, so in addition to eating some awesome food, we got to drink great wine! We had such a wonderful time with them!

  • The apartment was located in a great part of Rome (across the river from the more touristy part), and we found some great restaurants in the area. We walked everywhere the first couple of days, but when our legs started getting tired, we easily took the bus to anywhere we needed. The only downside to the apartment was that is was quite dark. There is only 1 window to let light in and it didn't seem sufficient for us. The host was great (although physically absent) by leaving us with wine and water and checking in by email to make sure everything was taken care of. And the mini washer was not only cute but very useful!!

  • Martin's place was charming, and filled with everything that you needed to feel as if you had your own pad in the uber-trendy Trastevere section of Rome. There were tons of places to eat around the place and it was easily walkable to the major sites in Rome. The bed was a super comfy futon, that doubled as a couch. Great terrace, cozy kitchen and bathroom - super convenient washing machine. What's really impressive is the amount of thought that Martin has put into the place. He has developed a manual, his "Wiki" about how to maximize your experience and it anticipates every question you might ask. Martin is a great host - very accommodating and quick to respond to inquiries and requests. We really appreciated his thoughtfulness in leaving us a chilled bottle of water and white wine in the fridge - perfect after a long day of travelling.

  • We had a great stay in Rome - thanks, Martin, for the great and helpful info material and suggestions which helped a lot to make our stay a success. The apartment is very small (you told us, so no problem) but cozy and absolutely perfectly situated to walk to all destinations within the city. Although just around the corner of Trasteveres hot spots, we still found a good nights sleep, because it is really quiet. We hope we will be able to come back soon! Thanks Jose & Annette (Düsseldorf, Germany)

  • Our stay at Mini Renella was great. We were perfectly located to get around from site to site. The restaurants were great in the neighbourhood and we enjoyed the proximity to the Piazza Navona and Piazza Campo do Fiori where we spent a lot time people watching and eating. While small, the apartment is well equipped and Martin and Elizabeth were very much in touch with any information we needed. Despite being in a very bustling area, with a lot of young people out very late we were surprised at how quiet it was in the apartment at night. The area is good for shopping and if you want high end restaurants or cheaper pizzerias you have many options steps away from your door. Martin's list of suggestions is very good and each place we tried we found to be fantastic and as described. Only thing anyone might have trouble with is the heat if you are at all sensitive to it in the August heat wave. The apartment has 2 fans which help, but the air is a little thick, especially in the washroom. However, it's August in Rome so unless you prefer AC you should find it great on all accounts. We would be happy to return.
For a personal addition to the recommended list of restaurants in the area we would add Vin Allegro, it's family operated and their list of wines by the glass is extensive and great. They were very helpful and the food was great. Martin's list includes Enoteca Ferrara which was my favourite dinner hands down!
Thank you to Martin and Elisabeth for all your help during our stay!

I am a tech entrepreneur with a growing team of top developers helping me develop Vreasy - a novel software platform. Thus I rent out the places I bought with the proceeds from my last software company. The $ I make goes straight into salaries for my employees - engineers, web designers and contractors around the world. I also employ several people (hosts, cleaners, maintenance people) to keep everything running smoothly with the apartments. I like to think I contribute to the economy! Managing these apartments made me discover that I really like seeing Rome through the eyes of my guests and really like the interaction with so many people from different places around the world. I'm joined by my Sister - a US-trained yoga instructor in Rome. She'll act as your Rome insider and advise you on everything there is to do and see. We're pretty organized as we have Vreasy to help us stay on track. For those of you whose next stop in Europe is Barcelona - come and visit me! I hop inbetween Bcn and Rome.
