Description

The space

Corner bedroom with private in suite bathroom. Japanese queen-size bed with 600 thread count Egyptian long cotton sheets, (Note: this mattress is very FIRM) It's French doors lead to balcony, lush green views. Large modern kitchen, great space to cook or just hang out in, also with french doors that lead to the huge balcony/deck where you can, BBQ, or just relax and have a cocktail before adventuring out into the neighborhoods of Silver Lake, Los Feliz, Hollywood, and beyond.

Guest access

Full access to Kitchen (8am-10pm), full bath, plus an additional half bathroom off the kitchen, Balcony off kitchen, and lounge/patio in the front of the house. I also stock the kitchen with coffee, tea, bagels, cereal, bagels/toast, almond and cow's milk, and sometimes I'll have hard boiled eggs in the refrigerator and/or fresh fruit on the kitchen island. The house has central heat/air conditioning and I set the thermostat between 70 and 78 degrees Fahrenheit (21-25 Celsius) depending on the weather.

Interaction with guests

Depends on each situation. Sometimes we're all very social, and other times guests just want to relax and enjoy their privacy.

The neighborhood

Silver Lake is located around Sunset Boulevard, between Hollywood and Downton Los Angeles. It is the creative center of LA. Our house is in a neighborhood called the Sunset Junction. Only a two block walk to; Intelligentsia Coffee, Cafe/Bar Stella, Bulan (Vegan Thai), The Black Cat, Cafe Flore, Nature Well, Blossom Vietnamese, Bowery Bungalow, Kettle Black, Sawyer, the LA Eagle. Akbar, El Cid, Cliffs Edge. Open air farmers market on Tuesdays and Saturdays, all within walking distance. We're also very close to, Los Feliz, Echo Park, and a quick bus ride or Uber to get to both Downtown LA and Hollywood.

Getting around

To get to my house from LAX:
There are shuttles available (Prime Time and Supershuttle)
There is also the 'Fly Away Bus' that takes you to Union Station Downtown, then you can take Uber or Taxi to get to my house. (5-10 minutes).
I believe you can now also take Uber directly to and from at LAX.
25 minutes from LAX with light traffic.
50 minutes from LAX with heavy traffic.

In my neighborhood you can take the city bus anywhere. There is also a subway stop for the Red Line, less than a half a mile away that will take you to Hollywood and Universal Studios, or downtown LA, where you can transfer to other trains. You can download an app called 'GoMetro' for more information. I advise guests to use Maps and click on 'transit' to see what public transportation options are available.

Other things to note

If you have a car, overnight parking requires a visitor permit. The parking permit ONLY allows you to park on the 900 block of Manzanita Street. (The same block the house is on). Hang the permit from the rear view mirror facing forward. If no permits are available, you may also park overnight on Sanborn Street, (again ONLY on the 900 block, directly behind my house), no permit is required to park on that block ONLY. If you still can't find parking, on either of those two blocks, overnight parking without a permit is also allowed on Santa Monica Boulevard as well as Myra Avenue (down the hill, check your maps) If you are still not able to find overnight parking, I usually have off street parking that can be made available. If you ever need help finding parking, message me anytime of day or night. And remember to always read parking signs. Check for times allowed, if permit required, street sweeping, etc. And don't block any driveways or you will be fined and/or even towed away. Follow these guidelines and you should be okay.

This is a lovely home and the room was large and clean. Chris is a fun and nice host. There is a nice patio balconey to relax in also. It is about 2 blocks from Sunset Blvd. Very convenient location. I would come back for sure.

The place is on a beautiful tree-lined street. Rooms are comfortable and quiet. This is my second stay. Parking is easy and permit is provided. Locations and restaurants right down the street. Nice to hike the neighborhood hilly streets. Great hosts!!

I grew up in the New York suburbs and north east New England. I wound up living in New York City for a few years, and eventually moved to California about 22 years ago. I've been living in the Silver Lake and Los Feliz area ever since, and I run the BNB with my partner Frank.
I embrace the 'LA' lifestyle, in that I try to be easy going and flexible, and do take advantage of the local delights. (Mountains, deserts, and the Pacific Ocean.) When I'm traveling, sometimes I'm looking for a peaceful natural retreat, other times looking for a fun city that stays open late.
It's amazing how many interesting and really cool people I've met through airbnb.com and I'm very happy I can be a host and will continue to do so.
