A traditional Suffolk farmhouse dating from 1600 set in large peaceful gardens on a private lane lined with oak trees. The cottage is full of timbers and also has sloping floorboards and low ceilings in some rooms, so this may not be suitable for all guests. It is surrounded by large mature gardens and fields. The cottage is located a short walk from the village centre where there are food shops, a post office, cafes and antique shops to browse around.

The space
With only two double rooms in the cottage you are assured a personal and private getaway in the beautiful Suffolk countryside. Unlike many b&b’s you’re welcome to relax in the cottage and gardens all day if you just want to unwind. On your arrival enjoy a pot of tea or fresh coffee and a generous helping of homemade cake! The cottage is very quirky and very old but is cosy and very comfortable.

Relax with a glass of wine in your own large private lounge, or on summer days lie back on our steamer chairs on the patio and do absolutely nothing.

In the morning enjoy tea brought to you in bed before a hearty breakfast which is served in the garden room overlooking the surrounding countryside.

Wi-fi is freely available in the cottage and garden and there are ample parking spaces on the drive. A secure lock up is also provided for guests who want to bring bikes.

Guest access
The Elm bedroom has sloping floors and an ensuite with shower and basin with a standard sized antique double bed, television, personal dvd player with a large selection of dvd’s, alarm clock and radio, hairdryer, fresh flowers, mineral water and handmade chocolates.

You can rest assured of a good nights sleep on a comfortable mattress with feather pillows, under a goose down duvet, wrapped in crisp Egyptian cotton bedding, you won’t want to get up. Your private ensuite has a power-shower and complimentary bathroom products and fluffy white towels.

A private landing leads down to the guests lounge with wood burner and sofas. The kitchen area can be used for making tea and coffee, but not food preparation. This leads through to the Garden room with views across the fields where you are welcome to relax. Outside there is a private parking area on the gravelled drive, a patio with chairs and the gardens which you are welcome to walk around and enjoy.

Location

Eye, Suffolk, United Kingdom

Eye is a small town, or is it a large village, I never know, but it has the essential amenities and is about a 10 minute walk away by road, or you can cross the fields on the footpath and it will take you about 20 minutes. It has some interesting architecture and the remains of an old castle next to the church. The area is rural and generally agricultural but also has a large disused WWII runway on the outskirts like many villages in East Anglia. The name Eye came from 'island' as the area was originally flooded. 100 years ago the village/town had 14 pubs, 2 breweries and a poorhouse, everyone must have been drunk! Today there is only 1 pub, but it's a good'un and you will get a warm welcome and a good meal. The area is scattered by good pubs and restaurants so just ask us for recommendations as they can be elusive to find on the country lanes. The town of Diss is only 4 miles away where you can get petrol and all the usual shopping items. The world famous Bressingham Gardens are nearby and so is Thetford Forest with all its outdoor activities. Norwich and the Norfolk Broads is an easy trip only 20 miles away a fabulous city you can walk around in a day or nearby you can hire a motor boat or go sailing to blow cobwebs away. Likewise Bury St Edmunds is a beautiful town but in the other direction. Both have markets and are easy to get to by car. The coastal havens of Southwold, Thorpeness and Aldeburgh are only 45 minutes by car and are definitely worth a trip and you can discover some lovely Suffolk villages on the way, including Framlingham where Ed Sheeran lives. If you didn't already know, the song title 'the castle on the hill' is Framlingham Castle. The Dancing Goat cafe in the market square is always good for a flat white.

During your stay
We are always here to welcome you into our home. After we have shown you around we will make you a pot of tea or coffee and bring you homemade cake so you can relax after your journey. We can recommend pubs and restaurants and arrange taxis if you don't feel like driving. We live in the other side of the house which is our private space and so you can relax in your own lounge and we will try not to disturb you, unless you want a natter. At times we do need to come in and out to prepare things but most of the time it's all yours.
