Don't feed the monkeys. They will come to the house and feel free to take lots of photos, but you can endanger their health if you feed or touch them. And respect the animals by keeping the noise down after 10 pm. Sound travels easily in the rain forest. The housekeeper will clean every day except Sunday. The layout of the house is not suited to young walking children due to the open layout.
We took a girls trip to Manuel Antonio, and 6 of us stayed at Casa Elsa. Susan, the property manager was there to greet us when we arrived. She was very friendly and super knowledgeable about the area. We had come from doing a bunch of adventures, so were really there to relax. It was the perfect place to unwind. The house was plenty big for all of us, and had everything that we needed.
We ordered groceries and made our own meals most of the days, but we were really happy that we got a chef and spa services in-house one of the days. When we go back to Manuel Antonio, we will definitely stay here again. It's private, but close to everything that you need. Great restaurants within walking distance, and so is the beach!
STAY AT CASA ELSA! That pretty much sums it up. This is the MOST unique house you will ever stay in. Everything about the house is special. It is literally like living in a fancy tree house in the jungle. We were 7 people including 2 children (11 and 15) and an austistic adult. There are four bedrooms, all with private baths and A/C (which works GREAT!!). The rest of the house is not air conditioned but we were never uncomfortable. There is always a breeze. The house is walking distance to many great restaurants, bars, ATM's and markets. The walk is somewhat uphill and dark at night (no sidewalks) so may be somewhat difficult for older people. The monkeys DO visit (we saw all three types) and will steal stuff. The first morning we had our first visit with a white-face monkey and it ran through the house into the kitchen. It was incredibly fun and a great way to start our first morning. If having wild animals hang out with you is not your idea of fun, then do not stay here! The howler monkeys do, in fact, howl and are loud enough to wake up a sleeping teenager! Susan, the house concierge, was amazing and really was key in getting us organized. She sent us information of the activities we could do and we chose three. She arranged pick-ups and drop-offs at the airport. When we got to the house, she was there to greet us and explain the workings of the house. There was a binder of all the info. we needed including every detail of the trips we were doing. Favorite restaurants with descriptions were there as well. Having Petronella there to do the laundry and clean was amazing! You literally can go with just a few pieces of clothing and some bathing suits because laundry is done every day! I did not wear 90% of what I brought! The house is also conveniently located down the street from a spa, which offers yoga, pilates, massages, reflexology etc. My sister-in-law and I love yoga and took advantage of this great location (Spa Holis). The trips we took were all great too. The last night we were there, we all said what our favorite meal was and what our favorite trip was. Everyone had a different one so you know that was a good sign. My FAVORITE was the jungle jeep buggy tour. AMAZING and a great cultural trip as well because you go thorugh villages and eat lunch at a small village "restaurant" at a home of a local family! We are looking to go back to Costa Rica in 2015 and want to explore a different part of this fabulous country and use AIRBNB.The problem is that we have stayed at the coolest house on the planet already and may just come back to Casa Elsa!
