My boyfriend and I stayed in the Parroquia bedroom for a month while working on an intense project in San Miguel. We weren't in the room much, but it was cute, very similar to the photos. Joyce was warm and welcoming, and seems to get a great deal of enjoyment from her guests. I was also happy that the location of her building is well uphill from the canals, which can get a bit smelly in certain weather - the air at Joyce's was quite fresh compared to some of the other parts of town.
Awesome host. Very nice and clean house with lots of open spaces. Well furnshied kitchen. Location great in a mexican neighborhood close to center.
What can I say? Joyce is a spectacular host with a big heart. Her dedication to the comfort and support of her guest is better than you would find in most fine hotels. That said, if you are looking for Ritz Carlton level accommodations, then stay elsewhere. But, if you are looking for RockStar accommodations, a great bed, a beautiful well-designed private bath and balcony area as well as a fantastic and unique view of the San Miguel Church at a fabulous rate, Stay Here! The room is located in a nice quaint area of town within easy walking distance to a great market and food area, many squares and San Miguel centro. The descriptions are accurate. And, Joyce is a pleasure to be around. I have traveled for many years in Mexico during my 42 years on this planet and I have to say I will be returning to stay with Joyce as soon as my schedule permits. Her hospitality cannot be beat. She knows the city, she knows the world and is an old soul type who can teach you a thing or two if you listen. Lastly, it is Mexico, that said, if you never been to Mexico bring earplugs, Immodium, and a respectful open mind. Walk in Peace.
Our experience at Casa Alegria was excellent. Joyce made us feel very welcome and at home. Both the facilities and the location were exactly as described in the AirBnB listing. We would definitely visit Joyce again!
What greater recommendation than this, after spending more than 30 days with Joyce I would happily return to stay with her again. Joyce was very welcoming with us when we arrived, and I would see that quality repeated as other guests arrived. She was very interested in our comfort while we were there and in providing advice aimed at maximizing our enjoyment. When we said we were cold coming from the heat of the desert of southern California she bought an electric blanket for us, although we did not need it for long as we quickly acclimatized to our new situation. When I said that one of my major goals was to learn Spanish she introduced me to a Spanish teacher. All of her recommendations on things to do and things to see were excellent. We enjoyed our contact with the other guests as well. Everyone was very nice and very interesting, and often we would gather with Joyce on the rooftop patio at sunset to watch the lights come on in the city. The view of the city from there is not to be missed We would all discuss our adventures and discoveries for the day. Or somedays we would choose not to and would stay in our room and study Spanish, plan out the next day or simply relax. I am also thankful to Joyce for explaining the local culture to us. We were there during the Christmas season which is celebrated very differently in Mexico and which I know understand much better. If you are really interested in learning about Mexico and experiencing Mexico in an authentic way than I think you would enjoy staying with Joyce.
Joyce is a most delightful person and a great host. Our room was small and rustic but Joyce gave us the run of the whole house. We were free to use the kitchen and rooftop deck with a million-dollar-view of most of San Miguel. The house is on a hilltop about a 10 minute walk to El Jardin. I would return but next time would probably stay in the larger apartment in the house. There is excellent Wi-Fi and television with many English channels.
