This is a friendly tranquil place. Plenty of patios for outside smoking. Available for parties but not noisy ones with loud music. Very easy acces to taxis passing all the time, busses a few blocks away.
Joyce was an excellent host and her house is beautiful, I absoluely recommend to stay in this centrical and cozy house, great view and rooftop!
What greater recommendation than this, after spending more than 30 days with Joyce I would happily return to stay with her again. Joyce was very welcoming with us when we arrived, and I would see that quality repeated as other guests arrived. She was very interested in our comfort while we were there and in providing advice aimed at maximizing our enjoyment. When we said we were cold coming from the heat of the desert of southern California she bought an electric blanket for us, although we did not need it for long as we quickly acclimatized to our new situation. When I said that one of my major goals was to learn Spanish she introduced me to a Spanish teacher. All of her recommendations on things to do and things to see were excellent. We enjoyed our contact with the other guests as well. Everyone was very nice and very interesting, and often we would gather with Joyce on the rooftop patio at sunset to watch the lights come on in the city. The view of the city from there is not to be missed We would all discuss our adventures and discoveries for the day. Or somedays we would choose not to and would stay in our room and study Spanish, plan out the next day or simply relax. I am also thankful to Joyce for explaining the local culture to us. We were there during the Christmas season which is celebrated very differently in Mexico and which I know understand much better. If you are really interested in learning about Mexico and experiencing Mexico in an authentic way than I think you would enjoy staying with Joyce.
Joyce is a most delightful person and a great host. Our room was small and rustic but Joyce gave us the run of the whole house. We were free to use the kitchen and rooftop deck with a million-dollar-view of most of San Miguel. The house is on a hilltop about a 10 minute walk to El Jardin. I would return but next time would probably stay in the larger apartment in the house. There is excellent Wi-Fi and television with many English channels.
If you're looking for a quite place to stay in San Miguel with great views and a gracious host, look no further. The well-heeled might be better suited for the Rosewood, but the rest of us will appreciate the charm and simplicity of Joyce's home.
Joyce, and her home, were lovely. She was friendly and helpful and gave me great tips to start my time in San Miguel (toy museum!) She reminded me of my own spunky grandma!
We were here for 2 full weeks and felt completely welcome and at home. Joyce is beyond accommodating, helpful, and knowledgeable about the town. She allowed us use of the kitchen for our coffee and snacks. She even cleared a shelf for us in the fridge and in the pantry area. Small, shared patio area was sufficient for sunning or drying towels, and larger, roof terrace was always available (beautiful views!) She even did my laundry for me! The bathroom was spacious with lots of storage and we had plenty of room for storage in the closet and full dresser. I was able to use the desk very efficiently. We felt at home. Location was good... a bit steep on the last bit of the hill, but good for us! If it was past 10:00 pm we just took a taxi home (about $3-US). We are very familiar with the town and had all of our time pretty booked and Joyce respected our privacy. Other guests there were delightful and most of the time we felt like we were the only ones there.
Everything that I will say about Joyce has already been said repeatedly by previous reviewers. Joyce has a beautiful home in a nice and very safe neighborhood. Immediately upon arrival and throughout my entire stay, Joyce was very warm and welcoming. You become one of Joyce's family
and her good friend. She will share important information about San Miguel and relate many of her life experiences to you. I would recommend Joyce's place to any would be travelers. You can not go wrong.
