Our cottage has a wonderful location with a single bedroom, bathroom, and small kitchen. The perfect place to stay for your visit to Stanford, Palo Alto, or Silicon Valley.
This simple and quiet cottage is in a wonderful Palo Alto location. Three blocks from downtown Palo Alto, a quarter mile from the bus and train station and Stanford mall, and 1.5 miles from the center of Stanford's campus. It's easy to get here and get around even with no car! We're also across the street from a lovely park, in case you're visiting with kids.
The cottage bedroom has a queen size bed that we have been told is very soft and luxurious. The bathroom is newly renovated with a tile shower and floor. There is a small kitchen with a microwave, cooktop, breakfast bar, and skylight which connects to the living room. There is free wi-fi and an in-unit washer and dryer. The parking is on-street, free, and usually easy to find. Even midday during the work week (the busiest time) you will probably not have to park more than a block away. We have an additional mattress that one person can sleep on in the living room if that works better for our guests. We can also make a port-a-crib and stroller available for your use if you're here.
I keep the calendar updated, so you should assume that if dates you are interested in are shown as not available, then they are not. Also I will not accept reservations more than three months in advance. I absolutely will not accept reservations for stays longer than 6 weeks.
In accordance with Palo Alto city law, our pricing now includes a Transient Occupancy Tax on all stays of 30 days or less. This means that the nightly rate of $150 is $131.58 for the room and $18.42 tax (14%). The weekly rate of $885 is $776.32 for the room and $108.68 tax (14%).
We really appreciate any feedback our guests have on how to make our cottage more comfortable!
Guests will have the entire cottage to themselves. The entrance to the cottage is off a patio that is shared with the main house. During summer months we typically keep a table and chairs on the patio and you are welcome to enjoy those.
Interaction with Guests
We typically try to greet guests as soon as we see them after they arrive and then will chit chat if we see them on the patio or driveway after that. We are very happy to chat more though if you're interested. I especially like recommending my favorite restaurants and places to visit in the area as well as hearing more about what brings people to the area.
I love how near our neighborhood is to so many great shops and restaurants.
Public transit is very convenient - we are about a quarter mile from the bus and train stations.
Parking is on street and easy to find on nights and weekends. On weekdays you may have to park a block or two away at worst.
It is possible, but annoying, to get to our house from the airport using public transit. I recommend a rented car, taxi, or shuttle.
Other Things to Note
Our check-in/check-out times are often flexible. Please feel free to inquire when you make your reservation if you would like an adjustment to these times and we will accommodate you as best we can.
No smoking please!
There is parking on the street in front of the house. Street cleaning is every Tuesday morning from 9-10am on alternating sides of the street. Check the signs at the end of the block because cars parked on the wrong side will definitely be ticketed.
It's very helpful to us if you can tell us the approximate times you will be arriving and departing (especially for weekday arrival/departure), so please send along that information if possible!
If you choose to leave the skylight open then please keep an eye on the weather and close it if rain is expected. If we see it open and it has begun to rain then we may knock on the door and ask you to close it. If you are not in the cottage then we may enter to close it ourselves.
If there are any problems with the cottage please let us know as soon as possible. One guest believed he was being an easy guest by not telling us that the hot water wasn't working. It turned out that the water heater was cracked and dumping water on the ground for a week - you should have seen our water bill that month!
Thanks for staying!
I've stayed at the Hawthorne Ave. cottage before in January and felt quite comfortable there. It was a nice experience to be able to walk to the downtown shops and eateries, etc. Everything that is familiar is right there within reach. The cottage is well kept on the outside and all of my guests thought it was very charming with "good vibes". I find it to be adequate for my needs at this point and am quite comfortable in the bed also. My favorite thing is the plush towels in the bath!
The quiet cottage was peaceful and quiet. A great location that is close to downtown. We live in downtown PA and wanted to have friends nearby. . . this was just what we needed. Thanks!
Wonderful hosts. A great location in a comfortable neighborhood. A well-equipped one-bedroom cottage. This is a great spot offered by instinctive, welcoming hosts. I look forward to visiting when I'm next in Palo Alto.
Teresa responded promptly to all questions. She was helpful in getting us into the cottage in a rain storm. The neighborhood/location is great; walking distance to downtown Palo Alto.
Great cottage and great hosts. Quiet street located very close to University Blvd shops and Stanford Campus. Chris and Theresa were great communicators prior to arrival and had lots of great suggestions for runs, coffee shops, and places to eat and drink. Will definitely be back if I'm in Palo Alto again.
The cottage was perfect for our trip. Chris and Teresa's home is just across from a park and playground, where we spent almost every afternoon with the baby. The Junior Zoo was a 20 minute was and well worth the trip. University Avenue is a couple blocks away, very close to all the shops and restaurants.
I did feel welcome at this property and was very glad to be there and it was comfortable too. It was very close to downtown Palo Alto with which I have a pleasant familiarity. I am definitely staying here again and appreciate that it's available. Barbara VK
Chris and I try to stay very active with running, hiking, skiing, and biking. Chasing our two kids also keeps us busy! I really like knitting and reading as well, and he is a sport programmer and loves home repair projects.
We love world travel but haven't done that as much since the kids came along. My favorite trips of all time have been sailing trips in Greece and Thailand!
