A 56ft Traditional Narrow boat, moored at varying locations around London, Mostly East London e.g. Hackney/ Limehouse/ Islington.
There is a double bed which sleeps 2. There is a sofa bed in the living space which sleeps 1. I will ensure there are clean towels and bed linen.
It has an open kitchen living space with a fuel stove which warms up nicely.
There is a small bath tub and plumbed in toilet.
She has most of the comforts of a usual home, just some additional quirks, it takes a bit of organisation to do many of the things, which happen at the push of a button when living in a house. Running the engine for a couple of hours a day tops up the batteries which provide power and heats the water. All will be explained when you arrive, and I will be at hand to run the engine each day.
This is my main residence and therefore my clothes and personal items will remain, and I will need to be present to access things from time to time. However I will discuss with you in advance. I will be staying in my studio overnight, so you will have the place mostly to yourself.
If you have any further questions please don't hesitate to get in touch.
The boat eliza was perfect for our stay in London. There is everything you need, a small kitchen, a living room with a heater to keep warm all night, a private space for the bed and another where to keep purses, bags ... The canal is connected with the metro and the station is near the center. Eliza helped us for any questions on the operation of power, hot water, heating. The atmosphere of sleeping in a boat in London is very beautiful!
We spent a weekend on the boat and we loved it!
First good surprise was that the boat was located in a more tourist-friendly place than what appeared on the listing page.
Then we really found it beautiful and lovely.
Eliza was very helpful when we met, and explained everything we had to know to enjoy the place. Even though the weather was cold outside, the fireplace was powerful enough to keep the boat perfectly warm all night long...
We'd highly recommend it, if you want to feel like a downtown sailor!
Staying on Eliza's boat was a wonderful experience. Eliza was a perfect host and very helpful and friendly. The boat was moored in Paddington, which made it greatly convenient for public transport. The boat had all the amenities we needed and was very warm and cosy as it has a little coal fire to burn. We did not have any trouble standing in the boat - even my boyfriend who is 6 ft. I would absolutely recommend Eliza's boat to anyone looking for something a little unusual. We had a lovely time and thank Eliza so much for giving us such a great little place and making everything so easy!
I stayed a week alone on Eliza's delightful narrowboat and thoroughly enjoyed my time spent there. London was starting to get cold but Eliza and Dominique took great care to ensure that the boat was cozy and warm for my return each day. The boat was moored at a convenient location for my stay, very close to the Grand Union canal entrance to Paddington station so commuting was easy. There were plenty of cafe, restaurant and supermarket options close by and self catering on board was very convenient. I enjoyed lovely brisk walks up either end of the canal, particularly Little Venice. Also worth a mention are the boat stalls, 'Words on the Water' for books and Sebastian & Louise Photography. Thank you Eliza and Dominique for making me feel so welcome on board. I couldn't ask for nicer hosts. X
My girlfriend and I spent a weekend on Eliza's charming narrow boat and it was an absolute delight. Eliza is a friendly and helpful host, and the experience of staying on a canal boat in London is something not to be missed.
The boat was situated in paddington basin behind paddington station, only a minutes walk from the picturesque little Venice, perfect for picking up some breakfast on the narrow boat café moored there. We would have liked caught a boat trip up to regents park or Camden but unfortunately ran out of time.
The boat is ideally situated and we would highly recommend anyway to stay.
A fun way to end our holiday. After several weeks in apartments and houses in Berlin, Paris and Northern Italy, our two remaining family members thought that Eliza's narrowboat sounded like a suitably quirky way to end our trip - and it was.
As others have hinted, the boat isn't for everyone. If you are mobility challenged, a neat freak or have issues sharing space with a diesel engine and a coal-fired stove you might be better off somewhere else.
Once you're over the limitations of living on a boat (and Eliza is quite candid about these in her description) it is one hell off a way to experience London with a twist.
...and Eliza is a great host!
Love Eliza and Eliza's very cool narrowboat. It's a great experience to stay on and a breath if fresh air in central London. Eliza is a sculptress and a star and very easy to deal with. So go on try the whole boat / canal thing it's great...
Unique experience to stay on a traditional Narrowboat, got a lot of character. Wen you commit to it and leave your luxury needs at home (such as WIFI etc) you will have a great time.
During long weekend London visit with my friends we stayed in Eliza's boat. For unique experience and accomditation in London Eliza's boat is excellent choise. Eliza was friendly, helpfull and made us feel that we were very welcome to stay at her home.
Our experience was lovely. Eliza was very flexible in accommodating our travel schedule, and the Sea Mistress was a fantastic place to stay. In regards to the size of the vessel, I'm 6'5" and I had no trouble enjoying my time. I would note I was not able to stand up straight, but that had no bearing on my enjoyment. The proximity to transportation was a big plus.
