The Space

Gypsy Cottage is perfect for a family or group of friends. Officially only one bedroom, the cottage can sleep up to five people and is located conveniently only five minutes from central Ubud,

Tucked on the edge of the same ridge as the famous Indus Restaurant on Jl Sanggingan, you are completely private, but conveniently just across the road from Bintang Supermarket and the delicious French pastries at Cafe Moka.

You will relax right into your own little oasis at Gypsy. Fully renovated by an interior designer only a few months ago, Gypsy features a stunning infinity pool and divine open deck overlooking the Campuhan river.

The light streams into the large open plan living area (flatscreen cable TV, DVD and Indovision), which has spectacular views across the valley and the walking trails on the opposite ridge.

There is a terrazzo bathroom with sunken bathtub and a modern styled, fully equipped kitchen, which includes a washing machine - which you need never touch, as a housekeeping service comes with your rental!

Upstairs, the open plan bedroom has a spacious, comfy four poster bed and an enormous day bed - more than twice queen size - that can easily sleep 1adult or two children. For lazy evenings, this space is great for cuddling up with a good book.

Full service staff (gardener, maid and pool guy) are included with the property. WIFI installed.

TRANSPORT: A car and professional driver can be supplied at your cost, either by the hour or day, or for the duration of your visit. Airport pickup can be arranged, approximately $40.00 for the trip.

RESTAURANTS: Many within walking distance, including Mozaic, Indus, Bridges, KopyKat and the famous pork ribs at Naughty Nuris.

GALLERIES: in all directions.

  • Gypsy word WOW. Walking into the cottage we were blown away by its is truly stunning. We stayed for 7 nights and we would have loved to have stayed days/weeks more! Annie was such a fantastic host, she even bought us some breakfast foods for when we arrived which we both thought was really kind of her. She also left us lots of information about the cottage and things to do in the surrounding areas which helped us to decided what to do whilst in Bali. Gypsy cottage is one of a kind - it definitely has the best view in Ubud and we loved sitting out on the terrace to watch the sun go down and looking out onto all of the beautiful greenery. The house inside is gorgeous, surrounded by lots of creative artworks (I loved the giraffe painting by the day bed!) and it has such a relaxing homely feel, we immediately felt at home there. The infinity pool was much bigger than expected and really well kept and clean. Both Mades (driver and housekeeper) and Wayun (gardener) ensured our stay went smoothly and anything we needed like laundry or a driver was arranged quickly and efficiently. We are missing gypsy cottage already and feel so lucky we had the opportunity to stay somewhere so amazing. We have come away with some of the best memories which we will cherish forever. Thanks again Annie and everyone at Gypsy! Hopefully we will be back! Tiffany & Matt

  • The stay at Gypsy for our honeymoon was delightful. The cottage is such a gorgeous house with a great pool and view and we found the location great as it is out of town and away from the tourists but only a quick scooter ride to get into the thick of things.
Annie was lovely and had left food for us making us feel very welcome.
The supermarket across the road is a little noisy but you get used to it and is very helpful for location and as a land mark.
The view from the deck is amazing at all times of the day and even at night with the full moon!!
    Would stay again, thank you!!

  • We expected a lot from this cottage. And what we got was outstanding.
Annie is the perfect host. She was very kind and flexible with the arrival end departure times and she even filled the fridge for us, so that we could have a good breakfast the next morning.
The cottage (and the surroundings) looks great in the pictures but if you see it in reality, it is still much better. It's like beeing cought in a dream.
The cottage is situated in a pretty quiet area of Ubud but nevertheless, there is everything you need in walking distance. Restaurants (we often went to penestanan), the supermarket and spas can be reached within max 10 mins.
We can really suggest this cottage for everyone who wants to see the beauty of the island without beeing stuck in the middle of thousands of tourists. You can use it as a center to discover bali, but you can also easily stay "at home" and relax the entire day.
Definitely the best place we have ever been on holiday.
    Thank you once again, Annie.

  • The cottage was a lovely little hideaway up the hill in Ubud overlooking the campuhan ridge (maybe the best view in Ubud). It was an excellent retreat from the hustle and bustle of Ubud. The loft was perfect to sleep three of us in our own double bed-like accommodations. The house itself was gorgeous and we were very fortunate to have stayed here. Annie is lovely and so are the staff. Thanks to all and I would definitely stay here again given the opportunity.

  • This is a lovely, lovely home. In fact, it is even nicer in real life than it looks in the photos. Annie has decorated her home in a cosy, colourful and unique way and the home is set up with everything you might need.

Annie was very diligent and had everything organized and set up beautifully for my visit. She had a lovely gift tray and box prepared with lots of goodies which was very unexpected and beyond the call of a good host. She also had prepared information about her home and the area.

There is a wonderful view, lovely deck and swimming pool, two flatscreen TVs, wifi connection, a large kitchen, washing machine, gorgeous gardens and a walk-in wardrobe.

In typical style of many villas in Bali, the roof and walls do not meet exactly, so you will find that some creepy crawlies can get in and probably will. So this may not be everyone's style.

The sunken bathtub was amazing and there's a good and regular supply of hot water.

Unfortunately there was a power/water outage for about 24 hours off and on while I stayed at the cottage, but this was a random neighbourhood maintenance thing, not at all connected to the cottage on its own nor something that could have been prevented.

The only other negative part of my stay was just in relation to the housekeeping. I had asked the housekeeper to come at a slightly adjusted time for cleaning, and while she agreed on the phone, she just came at the time she wanted to in the end, which was when I wasn't home. She also didn't seem too enthused about doing my washing, but it was no problem to do it myself.

I also felt very safe in Annie's home and its location, unlike many locations in Ubud, is central and not isolated, which for me, travelling solo, was perfect. It is also very close to (almost across the road from) a major supermarket, gym, spa, ATM and French style bakery.

All in all, this is an incredible spot and good value. I highly recommend Gypsy Cottage - it truly is a beautiful space and you would be lucky to stay here. Thank you, Annie :)

  • My girlfriend and I had a wonderful 2-week stay at Annie's house in Ubud. Annie was extremely gracious and generous, supplying us with a gift basket of soap, sarongs, mosquito repellant, and a scarf for temple visits. The house is beautiful and immaculately maintained with a daily housecleaner and gardener. Annie was extremely helpful from the beginning by giving us all of the information about the house and about things to do in Ubud. Her pool is beautiful and so is the four poster bed and bedroom with a wonderful mosquito net. There is no a/c, but it is definitely not needed as the upstairs gets great airflow with the windows open. The views are also amazing.

Finally, Annie was extremely helpful and sweet when my girlfriend came down with emergency appendectomy surgery. Annie gave us encouraging words about the hospital, Kasih Ibu, told us how to get quick transport from the taxi stand across from the property, and even followed up with emails and flowers. Very sweet.

I don't know if Annie will be renting her space out much again in the future, as this is her private home, but I would highly recommend it.

I am a young retiree, and have lived in Ubud for the past 7 years. My main interest is gardening which incorporates organics, composting and growing herbs and vegetables in my garden. Also very interested and involved in the recycling issue, rainwater collection and storage here in Bali. I have a crafty side too, so often have fabric, paints covering the floor whilst I plan something, which is usually outside the box. I love music, there are many places that have live bands in Ubud, from blues, reggae to jazz, you will often find me toe tapping somewhere in town.
