About This Listing
Our peaceful guesthouse sits just on the edge of town - a sunny, inviting west side property. Listen to spring peepers, coyotes after indulging downtown – 10 min drive "with traffic". By Shevlin Park, awesome biking access, 30 min to Mt. Bachelor!
Our peaceful 1BR/1BA guest house with kitchenette sits just on the edge of town on a sunny, inviting property on the outskirts of Westside Bend.
Listen to spring peepers and coyotes at night, after spending the evening downtown...it's about a 10 minute drive "with traffic". Beautiful Shevlin Park is a stone's throw, and you're only minutes from the best trails and about 25-30 to Mt. Bachelor skiing.
The simple guest house sits across the courtyard from the main house, with an unassuming shower/bathroom, fresh towels and colorfully tiled sink. Fresh bed linens and plush comforters. The twin trundle day bed is ready to go to sleep up to four total if needed, although our feedback has been that up to three is most comfortable. Cozy up on cold nights with the wood stove and watch the moon rise through the tall ponderosas. In the morning, south-facing windows let the light flood in, while an orchestra of birdsongs soak the air in the morning and evenings...a peaceful way to start the day! You will find it very clean, comfortable and a wonderful sanctuary to come back to after a big day exploring.
The kitchenette and decor is modest and functional:
• High-quality single-burner induction cooktop
• Larger Countertop Toaster/Baking oven
• Coffee Maker
• Full Size Refrigerator
• Large capacity front-loading washer/dryer
• Sorry -- no cable! We hope you'd rather be outside or reading a good book! ;-)
• Gas BBQ on the patio for grilling!
In nice weather, we enjoy the 20-25 minute bike ride into town, to give you an indication of our proximity to sights and activities.
Distances to Popular Spots:
- Groceries: 10 minutes to Newport Market and Devore's Organic - best shopping in town! In the summer, you are just a few minutes from the Northwest Crossing Farmer's Market on Saturdays.
- Phil's Trailhead: Under 10. You can cut over at Mt. Washington to turn onto Skyliner Rd.
- Meissner Snowpark: 20 minutes
- Drake Park/Downtown: 10 minutes ("with traffic";-)
-Tumalo State Park: 5 minutes/ 2 miles
- Northwest Crossing: 4-5 minutes
There is a sweet little porch to the south with Adirondack chairs for relaxing with coffee into the day or bringing it to a close. (Note:The courtyard offers a peaceful place to enjoy conversation or contemplate, with an apple tree, yuccas, fresh rhubarb, , hops, perennials, iris and lilac out your door!)
During your stay, you'll also be sure to encounter a menagerie of animals. Fresh eggs are yours for the taking if you meander back to the chicken coop...Two cats and dogs are all quite social and always looking for new friends.
My two kind and fun children might be around enjoying the natural space, too, often scaling the rocks and playing outside, so expect some sightings of pirates, ninjas or some other characters during your stay! If you have children, we have often just joined forces and the kids play together!
We do have a pack and play and high chair available for babies, so please ask if you need that -- we want you to feel like part of the family and always love sharing our knowledge of the area for favorite trails, biking, restaurants and can point you in the right direction.
We love our humble little casita, and hope to make your stay as enjoyable as possible!
Guest house, courtyard, property, kids' fort, chickens...
Interaction with Guests
I adapt to each guest's needs. Some, we have ended up having dinner together, glasses of wine, having our kids play together. Others, I am sensitive and give complete privacy. I often am around during guests' stay and try to be available when/if they need me without invading their privacy.
A perfect balance of private space, nature and accessibility to town.
No public transit past Shevlin Park. Easy 15 minutes from airport, as it's in the north part of Bend.
No pets in the casita. May check to bring pet if kept outside only.
Absolutely No Smoking!
The Casita was a very clean, quiet and comfortable place to stay. Alyce welcomed us and told us about the quick way to get downtown (google maps showed us a very roundabout route). Everything we needed was provided, and the woodstove was an especially welcome feature during a recent cold spell. We would happily stay there again.
Alyce's Casita is basic+cozy and was a fine place to stay for the weekend. It is just 10 minutes from town, but feels like a quiet little getaway. It's about a mile and a half from Shevlin Park, a great place to run, hike, or throw rocks in the creek. Be prepared to make friends with giant, sweet Wiley dog.
Inside the guest house looked just like it did in the pics. The beds were fine, it was a nice place to stay. The one draw back was the heater ticked throughout the night, much like a clock ticking but louder. It would be off for 10-15 min then kick back on for 5-10. I woke up two times to it throughout the night and it made it hard to fall back to sleep. This was the same for one of my friends yet it didn't really bother my other friend. If you're a heavy sleeper or it's summer and you don't need the heat then there's no problem!
I never officially met Alyce, but she was very friendly and easy to communicate with. She was also very accommodating. I was in Bend with friends to run the Bend Half Marathon, she extended our check-out so we could come back and shower!
The heater was the only draw back, other than that it was a nice place.
Our stay with Alyce was great. The Casita was a small cozy place that was perfect for my wife and I over our 3 day weekend. The bed is a fold out futon and there is also a trundle bed. So you could sleep 4 adults, although you'd probably want to put the trundle away daily. There is no stove, but there's a heating element for one pot meals. Otherwise the kitchen is fairly well outfitted.
The Casita is conveniently located close to downtown, but far from the hubbub. The morning we left there were 6 or so deer eating the grass in the backyard and we saw lots of interesting birds right outside the window.
The Casita is not the most polished place you'll stay. But for the price, it's a great deal to stay close to Bend and save money to spend on your lift ticket or raft rental!
Alyce was great. She was home with her two boys and showed us around. The place was like the listing and was gorgeous. It was a few miles from town, so deer walked in the yard, stars could be seen (before the snow storm came), and we slept very well on the futon.
The woodstove kept us comfy when the snow and ice came. We enjoyed several conversations with Alyce and her boys. Wiley the big dog and Phyllis the terrier were also very welcoming and friendly.
It was about 10 minutes into town. We cooked a lot in the kitchen while there and it was fine.
We will definitely be back. Wish we had left the kayak and bikes and brought the skis... next time.
Alyce made us feel totally welcome and showed us around when we arrived. The space was absolutely beautiful. It was very comfortable for 3 people and had a working fireplace which was great. Totally cozy. She also had very sweet dogs and gave us a great dinner recommendation.
