Perched on a hilltop with a magnificent 360 degree vista of the Pacific Ocean, Catalina, Santa Barbara Island and the Santa Monica Mountains, spend the evening watching the sunset over Boney Mountain as it fades to black. The stars come out by the millions- and you watch for comets and satellites passing overhead from the comfy Adirondack chairs.
You retire to the comfortable restored interior of 'THE ALUMILODGE'- a 1957 AIRSTREAM 22 ft. FLYING CLOUD, and plug your iPod into the Bose Acoustimas sound system while opening a chilled bottle of local area wine you brought from the refrigerator. The dinette is set for a romantic dinner which you prepare in the onboard galley and gas stove. After another look at the Milky Way, you retire to the Queen size rear bed with quality linens and feather duvet- the fresh Pacific breeze lulling you to sleep in the silence broken only by the occasional owl 'hoot' or coyote howl in the distance. You awake to experience the sunrise with our French coffee press and another day in a paradise you can't imagine is so close, yet so far from Los Angeles.
The area also offers vineyard tours, wine tasting rooms, excellent restaurants, hiking/ biking the Backbone Trail, trail rides and even an 18 hole golf course all within minutes.
Pool (seasonally) and internet hot spot available to guests.

What can I say about the airstream that hasn't already been said? The view is absolutely gorgeous. I booked as a surprise for my boyfriends 30th Birthday. We spent the morning hiking around the Santa Monica Mountains, so when we retreated to the airstream with a cooler full of food for dinner, and didn't need to leave, he was impressed I managed to keep such a secret.
Murray was away when we checked in, so Rob showed us up the mountain. Everything was simple and a nice change from the numerous other airbnbs we have stayed in.
It was quite windy that night, and though we tried desperately, (Chris is pretty handy with everything and he couldn't even figure it out), to close the awning, Murray showed up in the middle of the night to rescue us from all the noise it was making! Life saver. So make sure to get a tutorial if you are slow like us ;)
Had an incredible time up in the mountains. Murray was nice and friendly and let us be. A definite recommend.
Perfect stay, everything we needed. The views of the ocean and the surrounding mountains are incredible! So peaceful, perched up there on the hill above it all, sunset and sunrise were beautiful!
Murray and Kay are excellent hosts, wouldn't hesitate to recommend to friends and family.
Had an amazing relaxing time at the airstream on Murray & Kay's property. The trailer is atop a tall point in the canyon, incredible view of Malibu. Murray & Kay were so friendly and accommodating. Great for a peaceful night staycation in the LA area.
WOW! Just wow. This was an unbelievable experience for us New Yorkers. The drive up to the trailer was so exciting and breathtaking and the views and peacefulness was amazing. Murray gave us a tour and instructions and was awesome. His dogs were cute too! We had the best time and can't wait to come back.
If you are one for nature, one for vistas and one for getting away from it all, then this certainly ticks the boxes. The views from Murray and Kay's airstream are very impressive.
However please be warned that this is not boutique camping. Whilst its pretty and shiny from the outside, it is basic on the inside. You have your necessities - there is running water (just), a shower and toilet (next to your bed, accessed by climbing over it), an oven (in need of TLC), and electricity (but you can't really use it). We were aware that this was going to be basic; this is after all a caravan, however, we have been on previous lo-fi trips both on airbnb and elsewhere and I think this fairs poorly in comparison. The furniture outside is on the rusty side of vintage, and we felt that a welcome pack (milk, fruit, fresh soap etc.) wouldn't go amiss considering the price and considering the drive to the trailer and its proximity from grocery stores.
All in all, we felt that with a few extras, this could have been a better value stay for the price.
Murray and the horses greated us right away. We then drove up the hill to the Airstream sitting atop a hill with a most beautiful vista in all directions. We were greeted two hawks soaring at eye level! We enjoyed a spectacular sunset and moonrise. The trailer was cozy and had everything we needed.

My wife and I are Christian, semi-retired film industry people who thrive on adventure and meeting interesting people. Over the past 13 years I've restored several vintage Airstream trailers and consider them the ultimate in camping comfort. One of my restorations now actually resides in Japan!
We used to love to travel and camp in our 1957 'FLYING CLOUD' AIRSTREAM but now enjoy allowing others to share the experience without the hassle of driving, towing and fighting for a spot in a crowded and noisy campground. We live on a 20+ acre ranch property (with some overly friendly goats, dogs and horses) in the Santa Monica Mountains- surrounded by thousands of acres of open space and direct access to the famous Backbone Trail, which is renowned for hiking, horseback and mountain bike riding. We are also only 6 miles from the glorious beaches of Malibu. Our hilltop location is the perfect deluxe camping experience, with ocean views, and base to enjoy this unique mountain range and Mediterranean climate which occurs in only 6 places in the world.
