About This Listing
Perched on a hilltop with a magnificent 360 degree vista of the Pacific Ocean, Catalina, Santa Barbara Island and the Santa Monica Mountains, spend the evening watching the sunset over Boney Mountain as it fades to black. The stars come out by the millions- and you watch for comets and satellites passing overhead from the comfy Adirondack chairs.
You retire to the comfortable restored interior of 'THE ALUMILODGE'- a 1957 AIRSTREAM 22 ft. FLYING CLOUD, and plug your iPod into the Bose Acoustimas sound system while opening a chilled bottle of local area wine you brought from the refrigerator. The dinette is set for a romantic dinner which you prepare in the onboard galley and gas stove. After another look at the Milky Way, you retire to the Queen size rear bed with quality linens and feather duvet- the fresh Pacific breeze lulling you to sleep in the silence broken only by the occasional owl 'hoot' or coyote howl in the distance. You awake to experience the sunrise with our French coffee press and another day in a paradise you can't imagine is so close, yet so far from Los Angeles.
The area also offers vineyard tours, wine tasting rooms, excellent restaurants, hiking/ biking the Backbone Trail, trail rides and even an 18 hole golf course all within minutes.
Pool (seasonally) and internet hot spot available to guests.

We had a wonderful time at Murray & Kay's Airstream trailer. The spot is just beautiful, Murray was very welcoming, and it was so refreshing to get to cool off in the pool. Although we were only gone from our home in L.A. for 24 hours, it felt like a true vacation.
Murray was very friendly. We found the directions and easy to follow. The view from the trailer is indeed phenomenal!
Terrific experience. Even if you live in LA, as I do, you should stay a night here for the blissful quiet and the night stars.
Just bring more food than we did :-)
Hosts were wonderful.
/the drive up to the trailer is a bumpy dirt road. I was glad we came in my Jeep, not our smaller car. I realise you can probably do it in most vehicles, just surprised us!
Absolutely magical. I've never seen that many stars in LA! It was exactly what we needed...to get off the grid without having to travel too far. Everything is as described on the site, but the actual experience even better than words can portray. Easy to get there, friendly and accommodating greeting, by people and the animals. We will surely return. Thank you!
The host made me and my partner Taña Barajas feel welcomed. We had difficulty in having our car, a honda civic, drive all the way up to the airstream. Fortunately, the host was able to provide us with a lift on her ATV vehicle. If your car is not a 4-wheel drive vehicle, I highly recommend you request this service. The space does not have internet wireless, which can only be accessible near the host's residence, which is a steep and long walk from the airstream. While we did not need the internet, it is important that this be made clear for future visitors who might want to be less disconnected from the internet. Other than these minor details, my partner and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay. We drove to a local restaurant at the beach, watched the sunset, had chocolate covered strawberry desserts with some a nice cold chardonnay (chilled in the fully functional fridge), played scrabble until late at night, watched some shooting stars while falling asleep on the comfortable patio seats, and had a restful sleep on the large full sized bed. We enjoyed our trip so much that my partner and I are both strongly considering purchasing an airstream of our own. The visit made for some beautiful lifelong memories, and we are certain that others will feel the same.
They welcomed us when we arrived and then came up to the airstream to show us where everything was and how it worked. We got off to a bit of a rough start (see below) but after that, we really had a great time.

About the Host, Murray & Kay
My wife and I are Christian, semi-retired film industry people who thrive on adventure and meeting interesting people. Over the past 13 years I've restored several vintage Airstream trailers and consider them the ultimate in camping comfort. One of my restorations now actually resides in Japan!
We used to love to travel and camp in our 1957 'FLYING CLOUD' AIRSTREAM but now enjoy allowing others to share the experience without the hassle of driving, towing and fighting for a spot in a crowded and noisy campground. We live on a 20+ acre ranch property (with some overly friendly goats, dogs and horses) in the Santa Monica Mountains- surrounded by thousands of acres of open space and direct access to the famous Backbone Trail, which is renowned for hiking, horseback and mountain bike riding. We are also only 6 miles from the glorious beaches of Malibu. Our hilltop location is the perfect deluxe camping experience, with ocean views, and base to enjoy this unique mountain range and Mediterranean climate which occurs in only 6 places in the world.
