About this listing

A unique experience for the person who loves nature and vintage American icons. A little rustic, but vastly rewarding. Please read the entire listing and view an extensive photo library to determine if this venue meets your creature comfort quotient.

The space

Perched on a hilltop with a magnificent 360 degree vista of the Pacific Ocean, Catalina, Santa Barbara Island and the Santa Monica Mountains, spend the evening watching the sunset over Boney Mountain as it fades to black. The stars come out by the millions- and you watch for comets and satellites passing overhead from the comfy Adirondack chairs.
You retire to the comfortable semi-restored interior of 'THE ALUMILODGE'- a 1957 AIRSTREAM 22 ft. FLYING CLOUD, and plug your iPod into the Bose Acoustimas sound system while opening a chilled bottle of local area wine you acquired on a vineyard tour. The dinette is set for a romantic dinner which you prepare in the onboard galley and gas stove. After another look at the Milky Way, you retire to the Queen size rear bed with quality linens and feather duvet- the fresh Pacific breeze lulling you to sleep in the silence broken only by the occasional owl 'hoot' or coyote howl in the distance. You awake to experience the sunrise with our French coffee press and another day in a paradise you can't imagine is so close, yet so far from Los Angeles.
The area also offers vineyard tours, wine tasting rooms, excellent restaurants, hiking/ biking the Backbone Trail, trail rides all within minutes.
Pool (seasonally) and internet hot spot available to guests.
WE ARE PET FRIENDLY. We charge an additional flat $15 cleaning fee per reservation payable in cash during your stay for pets.

Murray was a fantastic host. The place is definitely a one of a kind experience. You're surrounded by rolling hills and at night, blanketed with stars. We'll be back!

We had a great time. The views were spectacular! The trailer is a vintage 1957 Airstream, so go in expecting 1957 amenities. You're very close to several interesting things up in the canyons. The drive down to PCH through Decker Canyon is REALLY fun and highly recommended. We had sunny skies during our stay and a nice cool breeze. It could not have been nicer. All in all it was a very fun vacation.

This place made for a perfect stay-cation getaway from LA! The airstream was clean, all cooking supplies were available, and the bed was comfortable. It made for a lovely afternoon and evening in a secluded location where we got to enjoy 360 degree views of the Malibu hills and pacific ocean...the stargazing at night was the icing on the cake.

This airstream is on such a beautiful property! You're on top of a hill with an absolutely gorgeous view. Make sure you pack food and water because you're not going to want to leave. This is a great way to experience what camping's like in an airstream. Not super luxurious but you're able to have a comfy bed to sleep on and a kitchen. We were able to make blue apron meals and enjoy them surrounded by the sunset. I would suggest to people who are staying to take advantage of exploring the hiking available to you. There's so much fun wildlife and plants to enjoy! The Malibu cafe is a great place to go to before or after your stay for a fun place to get food and drinks. The road going up to the airstream is not that bad.. we made it up with our 2000 Camry. We had a great time! It was a fun and relaxing trip. Thanks so much for sharing your airstream and your amazing property with us!

This is a must for any traveller looking to unwind and take in stunning views and sunshine. It's like being dropped into a scene from a 1950's movie set against a spectacular backdrop of California mountains. 6/5 for Murray and Kay (Eh).

Murray & Kay User ProfileMurray & Kay is a superhost.

My wife and I are Christian, semi-retired film industry people who thrive on adventure and meeting interesting people. Over the past 15 years I've restored several vintage Airstream trailers and consider them the ultimate in camping comfort. One of my restorations now actually resides in Japan!
We used to love to travel and camp in our 1957 'FLYING CLOUD' AIRSTREAM but now enjoy allowing others to share the experience without the hassle of driving, towing and fighting for a spot in a crowded and noisy campground. We live on a 40+ acre ranch property (with some overly friendly dogs and horses) in the Santa Monica Mountains- surrounded by thousands of acres of open space and direct access to the famous Backbone Trail, which is renowned for hiking, horseback and mountain bike riding. We are also only 6 miles from the glorious beaches of Malibu. Our hilltop location is the perfect deluxe camping experience, with ocean views, and base to enjoy this unique mountain range and Mediterranean climate which occurs in only 6 places in the world.
