When we arrived, there was an orientation package on the kitchen table with bus/metro information and so on. Mónica had even left bread, coffee, butter and cheese. All of this made us feel at ease and welcome. Whenever we had questions on museums/restaurants/shopping malls/whatever Mónica would answer e-mails right of way as if we had been to a lobby in a hotel. The place is clean and nice with all you need, the neighborhood is quiet and safe, a 20 min walk to Georgetown, Dupont Circle (metro station) in a walking distance and buses in front. We recommend a Big Bus Tour on the first day, it gives a good overview of the city. We began our tour on Connecticut Ave close to Dupont Circle. Don't miss the Woodrow Wilson House (10-4 Tue-Sun, $10) in R str and the Anderson Mansion in Mass Ave (1-4, free), both just a few min walk from Mónica's house :-) Of course the Smithsonian museums are something else, all free.
On the whole a friendly atmosphere and a comfortable stay, to be highly recommended.
