The Featherview property is a working organic banana farm. We manage the property with the best landcare and environmental practices and don't use any chemicals or harmful pesticides. Also, we focus on creating a beautiful farming landscape as much as a healthy, productive crop.
Half of the property is natural bushland with pockets of rainforest and there are walks and lookouts to enjoy it fully. There are many rare and threatened species like koalas, birds, frogs, echidnas. We also have wallabies, possums, snakes and many other creatures too. Every day we have a new surprise visitor from the natural world. Due to our commitment to wildlife conservation we can't accept requests with dogs sorry.

Mullumbimby is a cool, arty, hippie town with lots of cafes and restaurants. There's a local market on every weekend and the farmer's market every Friday morning is something not to miss.
No rules. We're hippies.
Staying at Featherview was more amazing than I could have imagined, and Garry was a wonderful host.
Featherview was perfect, everything we could have needed was there, it was so gorgeous it was hard to leave sometimes! The beds were comfortable and extra blankets provided for those chilly mountain nights, the rain water sweet and invigorating, and you can't deny that view - relaxing with a coffee and watching the sun rise over the sea was incredible.
Garry had created a welcome board for us, which was a lovely individual touch, and very knowledgable of the local area, and spent time with us discusssing the history or the area and the best local attractions. He provided us with everything we needed during our stay and is a beautiful, warm person. Garry, thank you so much for being the perfect host.
Featherview and Garry left such a positive impression on my friends and I that we all agreed, if ever any of us are in the area again, we're going to stay there.
Garry made my friends and me feel very welcome. He was great at answering any questions we had and everything we needed was provided. The home is just amazing with spectacular view from the balcony . Everything was very clean and light and airy, also there was a bowl of fresh home bananas - with the best taste. The location is gorgeous, in the middle of bushland and nature, just 2min from crystal castle, 16km from gorgeous Minyon falls and 5min from Mullumbimby (by car). My friends and I enjoyed staying there and we would very happily stay again.Highly recommended for holiday!
Our family have spent two memorable evenings,The sightseeing is really wonderful and fascinating! Garry is very kind and hospitality，If there is an opportunity I will come And live here again！
What a wonderful place to stay, particularly to explore the surrounding towns of Byron Bay, Mullumbimby and Brunswick Heads. I used this as my base to celebrate my 50th birthday and wasn't disappointed. Everything we needed was supplied in the room and the views were amazing. So relaxing sitting out on the deck and seeing the Byron Bay lighthouse in the distance. Garry (the Host) is wonderful and spent just the right amount of time showing us his banana crop and providing a wonderful insight into his story and how the farm came about. Would totally recommend to anyone looking for a totally different (and inexpensive) experience.
Garry's place is beautiful and serene. From the moment we arrived, Garry made us feel welcome and looked after.
The place is as described, cosy and functional. The deck is great and the view is spectacular. 5min drive to Mullumbimby, a great little town.
Garry and his wife were an absolute pleasure! So kind and welcoming. We loved all of the little personable touches and efforts they went to. We also loved that Garry straight away remembered each of our names and used them. The house was so gorgeous, so clean, full of beautiful light and felt very safe, and the view was spectacular. We loved the big bowl of bananas provided too (delicious!). The drive was very easy and beautiful, and the gravel and rocky section of the road towards the end added to the excitement of feeling worlds away. We left our stay feeling completely relaxed and refreshed - it only took one night! We're so thankful to stayed at Featherview!
We wished we could have stayed longer. The view is as incredible as it looks, maybe even better. Sitting on the veranda with a cup of tea or glass of wine was really relaxing. It's pretty hard to be stressed here.
Would love to go back and stay longer and enjoy all the area has to offer.
Communication with Garry was excellent. The house is nestled in the hinterland, but we had clear instructions and found it no problem. Very remote, but equally a short drive to Mullumbimby where we had the best Thai food we've ever eaten in Aust.

About the Host, Garry
I'm a hippie banana farmer from Mullumbimby near Byron Bay. My parents bought our special piece of paradise over thirty years ago when land was cheap. We immediately went about restoring the degraded, weed infested natural bushland which includes koala habitat and threatened ecosystems. Since 1980 we have planted over eight thousand trees grown from seed collected from local remnants and removed acres of weeds. I love rainforests can identify most species in the local area and can recognise local birds from their calls.
Recently we took over management of the degraded four hectare banana plantation and converted it to a more organic or biological system. Previously chemicals were used and soil erosion was slowly destroying the landscape. We created swales (terraces) to catch and slow water movement and planted cover crops to hold the precious topsoil in place. Our main source of fertiliser is farm grown chipped wood and compost used as a mulch. We are essentially taking carbon from the atmosphere where it is a problem and storing it in the soil where it is useful but lacking. Carbon feeds the microbial life that is essential to plant health and our farm philosophy revolves around that fact. Harmlessness is something we apply to every aspect of our project. We aim to not harm the land and respect all the life that inhabits it including microscopic life under the soil surface.
I'm married to Suzy who works as a flight attendant. We are vegan but don't care about or judge anyone else's choices. Sometimes differences make people interesting more than similarities. We accept anyone and welcome anyone into our home who is interested in nature, sustainability, alternative thinking and lifestyles.. or anyone who is respectful of our beautiful property.
I love a surf or if there's no swell a swim in the ocean. The nearest beach is clothing optional and only ten minutes drive away. We usually go to the rainforest beaches south of Byron Bay if we have the opportunity. We have spare surfboards available and beach bikes. Riding a bike along the beach from Brunswick Heads to Byron Bay at low tide is fun.
We love sharing our house and amazing property with appreciative people so send us a message if you want to discover paradise or just want to say hello. If you don't have the opportunity to stay but are in the area and are curious about what a sustainable banana farm looks like I usually can spare half an hour to show it off. There's a free banana smoothie in it for anyone who is interested enough.
