Great two bedroom cabin with amazing ocean views and Byron Bay and its famous lighthouse in the distance. Sunrises and full moons are spectacular from the hammocks. The apartment is joined to another apartment but is screened off and private with it's own entrance. The Featherview property is a working organic banana farm. We manage the property with the best landcare and environmental practices and don't use any chemicals or harmful pesticides. Also, we focus on creating a beautiful farming landscape as much as a healthy, productive crop.

Half of the property is natural bushland with pockets of rainforest and there are walks and lookouts to enjoy it fully. There are many rare and threatened species like koalas, birds, frogs, echidnas. We also have wallabies, possums, snakes and many other creatures too. Every day we have a new surprise visitor from the natural world.

The local area is full of colour and culture with a leaning to alternative lifestyles. Friday's farmers market is a highlight not to be missed. The closest beach is a fifteen minute drive and the famous beaches and sights of Byron Bay.are half an hour away..

  • The featherview house was a beautiful place to stay. The picture does not do justice to the actual view that you have from the balcony. The view is amazing. Garry met us on arrival and was very friendly and even had fresh bananas and our names on surfboard welcoming us to the house. Just a nice touch. The house was very clean and well furnished, including a nice tv, dvd and stereo system . Garry and his wife were very friendly and willing to help with places to eat and anything we needed. I would highly recommend the place.

  • I wish we'd been able to stay longer at Featherview - one night just wasn't enough. The farm is high up on the hillside looking across to Byron Bay, with simply amazing views from the verandah. Waking up in the morning to the sounds of birdsong and banana tree leaves swaying in he breeze was pretty special. Garry was a brilliant host, very welcoming and friendly, and was more than happy to let us check out late in the day to make the most of our time there. The place is really spacious, simply furnished but with everything you need - it's a great place to stay and we'd love to return for a week sometime.

  • We really enjoyed out stay at Featherview! The apartment had everything we needed and the views were just amazing. We spent most of our time out on the verandah. Garry and Suzy were great hosts - very welcoming but gave us all the space we needed to enjoy such an amazing place. Just wish we could have stayed longer. Will definitely recommend and book this place again :) One thing I would suggest is that you arrive in daylight so you can find the house but also so you can watch the sunset.

  • We had a wonderful time staying at Featherview farm. Garry was very hospitable even making us his famous banana smoothies! We were in the area for a wedding and were delighted at all that Byron hinterland has to offer! We checked out Mullumbimby for breakfast and op-shops and spent time wandering the Bangalow markets. The countryside is beautiful and it was so relaxing sitting on the deck taking in the view over the valley to the ocean. What a magic spot!

  • We had the most wonderful time at Featherview - truly a special place. Our 6 year old son enjoyed playing in the wonderful garden, when we relaxed on the deck with the amazing view.
Our hosts Garry and Suzy were very friendly and helpful and always supplied fresh bananas from the farm.
There's lots of wildlife around and we saw birds, frogs, bats in the evening and a big lizard in the trees, it's a great experience for kids. And it's a very Family Friendly place.
There's lots of room to play on the deck and there's hammocks.
And it's only a short trip to the coast and busy beaches. After a daytrip we found it very relaxing to come back to this peaceful little paradise. We really hope we can come back one day :-)

  • My parents stayed here (booking via my account) and said the following: Despite an earlier than agreed arrival we received a very warm welcome by our lovely host family. Well prepared and very clean rooms. An evening of indulgence on the porch with a beautiful view over the valley to the sea in absolutely quiet surroundings. Definitely a place worth staying at!

  • What a wonderful couple of weeks we spent at Garry's place. We ended up booking both of the accommodations (upstairs apartment and downstairs studio) for our family and we were not disappointed with our decision in any way. The spaces are just as the photos portray and are very comfortable and well equipped. The views are incredible. Garry was warm and friendly and made us feel so very welcome. He was easy to communicate with and responded promptly to email and phone calls.
The picturesque village of Mullumbimby is only a short drive away and we were able to get everything we needed there.
The surroundings are gorgeous - the photos say it all!
Can't wait to stay here again.
A big thank you, Garry. Hope to see you again in the not too distant future.

About
I'm a hippie banana farmer from Mullumbimby near Byron Bay. My parents bought our special piece of paradise over thirty years ago when land was cheap. We immediately went about restoring the degraded, weed infested natural bushland which includes koala habitat and threatened ecosystems. Since 1980 we have planted over eight thousand trees grown from seed collected from local remnants and removed acres of weeds. I love rainforests can identify most species in the local area and can recognise local birds from their calls. Recently we took over management of the degraded four hectare banana plantation and converted it to a more organic or biological system. Previously chemicals were used and soil erosion was slowly destroying the landscape. We created swales (terraces) to catch and slow water movement and planted cover crops to hold the precious topsoil in place. Our main source of fertiliser is farm grown chipped wood and compost used as a mulch. We are essentially taking carbon from the atmosphere where it is a problem and storing it in the soil where it is useful but lacking. Carbon feeds the microbial life that is essential to plant health and our farm philosophy revolves around that fact. Harmlessness is something we apply to every aspect of our project. We aim to not harm the land and respect all the life that inhabits it including microscopic life under the soil surface. I'm married to Suzy who works as a flight attendant. We are vegan but don't care about or judge anyone else's choices. Sometimes differences make people interesting more than similarities. We accept anyone and welcome anyone into our home who is interested in nature, sustainability, alternative thinking and lifestyles.. or anyone who is respectful of our beautiful property. I love a surf or if there's no swell a swim in the ocean. The nearest beach is clothing optional and only ten minutes drive away. We usually go to the rainforest beaches south of Byron Bay if we have the opportunity. We have spare surfboards available and beach bikes. Riding a bike along the beach from Brunswick Heads to Byron Bay at low tide is fun. We love sharing our house and amazing property with appreciative people so send us a message if you want to discover paradise or just want to say hello. If you don't have the opportunity to stay but are in the area and are curious about what a sustainable banana farm looks like I usually can spare half an hour to show it off. There's a free banana smoothie in it for anyone who is interested enough.
