The space

Lovely whitewashed traditional Irish Farm cottage. FREE WIFI in the cottage ! It has a cozy sittingroom with open fire. You can burn wood, turf (peat ) coal etc. Small fully fitted Kitchen . Double bedroom with comfortable double bed and shower en-suite, on the ground floor. Upstairs there are two bedrooms with 2 single beds in each room and there is a toilet and wash basin. These upstairs bedrooms have low attic ceilings and are probably best suited for children , although many adults have also stayed here, There is an electric blanket on the bed for added comfort. You have Free access to the farm and all the lovely walks, both on the farm and on the local mountains. There is also a great traditional music culture in this area.
Your cottage is adjacent to the owners, so you have instant access should your have any enquiries , or if you are looking for hot tips on places to visit , stories and legends from the area.
There is an authentic old Fairy Fort on the farm, and an ancient 'Swearing Stone', on which it's said Oisin lay his hand, on his return to the Land of Erin , after he had spent 400 years in Tir na nOg ( Land of Youth ) If you stand in the centre of the fairyfort and close your eyes, and listen with a quiet peaceful heart, then you will hear the ceoil ( music ) of the Fairies.
The Cottages are situated on a farm about 1mile from the village of Borrisoleigh. Here you may buy petrol, hardware, food and drink. There are also restaurant and Fast Food outlets. You can buy fresh home grown vegetables from Barbara and her husband Michael on Friday mornings in the 'Square', in front of the beautiful Parish church. There is a garage and 3 Filling Stations. Bus service serve Borrisoleigh as it's on the main Thurles to Nenagh R498
Here you will get a flavour of Irish hospitality and friendliness at its best ! There are loads of testimonials from all over the world, which verify the wonderful experience holidaymakers have had here in this part of traditional Ireland. There are goats, ponies, chickens, ducks etc on the farm adjacent.

Guest access

Guests will have Free access to the adjacent FairyFortFarm, visitor farm, with its walks, around the Swearing Stone , Fairy Fort, Famine haggard, Tree House , stream and little waterfall, animals, fields, streams and relaxation of the fields and countryside

Interaction with guests

There is usually a great interaction with guests, who are welcomed and invited into Michaels house for copious cups of tea , sing songs, music etc.
There is often a Romancing the Fairies, when music and songs are performed to entertain the 'Little People' or Leprechauns !

The neighborhood

Tranquility and peace are my friends here at FFF. the stream, waterfall, and new woodland is all such a pleasure and dare I say it, spiritual !

Getting around

Best to have a car, but many visitors have also enjoyed being driven around by Michael !

Other things to note

Great little spot for Art, Writing, or just doing nothing !

Fairy Fort Farm and Ivy cottage in particular is a great place to stay. The property that the farm is on is quite large so you can step out your door and go for a walk and cover quite a good distance without even leaving the farm. So for us this was quite amazing as we live in an apartment with no outdoor space at all. There is a beautiful small river that you can take a (5 min) walk down to where you can listen to the water flowing and birds singing. really lovely. There are other walks to do on the farm and nearby as well. The atmosphere on the farm is very welcoming and friendly due to Michael's (the owner) hospitality and warmth. He was most kind to our family and did everything he could to make our stay a pleasant one. The animals on the farm are great and we were happy to discover that Fairy Fort Farm is an animal sanctuary as opposed to an animal farm as we are vegetarians. We did some nice trips away from the farm to check out the attractions like the rock of Cashel and the Michelstown cave, which were very easy to access from the farm. (the roads are all good and very quiet). Ivy cottage has a lovely fire place for those winter nights and Michael provided us with all the wood and peat we needed to keep warm. It was perfect;y clean on our arrival and had everything in it that we needed. Its a nice old cottage that functions well. We'd love to come back and visit Fairy Fort Farm again. Thank you Michael!

Michael is an absolutely wonderful host that is always willing to help his visitors. He willingly picked us up from the train station upon our arrival and saw us off as well. Michael is a happy soul overflowing with knowledge. Dhia and I thoroughly enjoyed our time chatting about various topics with him over coffee and tea. We would highly recommend taking part in the local traditional music sessions that Michael suggests as well, Jim of the Mills was one of the major highlights of our trip! Additionally, take the time to absorb the sweet little town of Borrisoleigh and all of its hidden gems, you won't be disappointed! The Bothy, a community run cafe, has some of the friendliest staff and displays local artists, we became regulars here throughout the week! Also don't miss out on viewing the beautiful night skies, I don't know if I've ever been able to see more stars than I did from Fairy Fort Farm. Getting to know Micheal has been one of our favorite experiences thus far.

Have no words to describe how fantastic was our stay. Michel welcom us at the cottage and from the first moment we felt there as at home. All the time ready to help you with any matter. His knowledge about area and it's history just unbeliveable. My 2 daughters felt in love with Pippi (dog)and Pablo(pig) and other animals on the farm. We fed them every morning and have to say that Pippi help our daughter to go through the fear of the dogs.

Michael met us at the cottage even though we were early. He was extremely helpful with his suggestions and recommendations for places to go. The place was wonderful. It was peaceful and serene. My kids absolutely loved the Fairy Fort Farm down the road with the animals. Every morning we walked up to give Pablo our scraps. We were greeting by Pippy, his dog. She followed us around the farm. I would love to have stayed here our whole vacation! If we ever have the chance to return to Ireland, we will definitely stay here again. What an incredible start to our first visit to Ireland.

Michael couldn't have been a better host. He was always willing to help, even driving us in and out of town, and gave us plenty of space unless we sought him out. Michael is a great fella, full of interesting stories and his dog, Pippy, was a joy to have around. The animals on the farm are well cared for and very calm interacting with strangers. The people all around the local area are also incredibly friendly. Couldn't have been happier with this place for a little get away in Ireland!

The place was lovely, and Michael was very welcoming. We really enjoyed taking our scraps to feed Pablo the pig and the chickens each morning. The cottage is no frills but quite adequate. Borrisoleigh is also a great base for getting around the Tipperary/Shannon area with good roads.
