We stayed 4 weeknights in September. Had not stayed in Le Marais before and agree with other reviewers about its liveliness and about the apartment’s easy access to the Metro and the Ile de la Cite and the Ile Saint-Louis. The listing mentions the Hotel de Ville Metro stop, but the apartment is just as close to the Saint-Paul stop; if you use that stop, do walk a few blocks further (east) on Rue de Rivoli to see the lovely (PHONE NUMBER HIDDEN) Church of Saint-Paul & Saint-Louis. We thought the bathroom was immaculate and appreciated Philippe’s helpful notebook. The apartment was fine for the 2 of us, but would be tight for 4 if they spent much time together there. Please note there is no elevator and there are 45 steps, including 7 turns, to reach the apartment. Phillippe will help with your luggage, but you must be very specific about this request when you communicate with him.

Just finished a 3-night stay at Philippe's apt. in Paris. It was perfect for our stay (couple), exactly as advertised. Philippe was very communicative prior to our stay which was greatly appreciated. We arrived at 2:00 PM and met Johnny just as the apt. was ready to occupy. He led us up the stairs (3 flights), showed us around, gave us the key and left us to change and relax. The location in Le Marais was ideal; a short, 5-min. walk to the Hotel de Ville Metro and 10-min. to Notre Dame. The apt. is great for a couple or a 3rd person sleeping on the hide-a-bed sofa. It's small but much roomier than a typical European hotel room. A sliding door separates the bedroom from the living room/kitchen area which was nice. The kitchen has a stovetop, microwave, espresso maker, sink, small refrigerator and a innovative little washer/drying. Super nice to be able to do laundry. There is a TV but we didn't use it. The Marais is lively, at times a bit more frenetic than lively. The street, Rue Vieille-du-Temple, can be a mob scene during the day (note: there was a rave event going on nearby for our last day, a Saturday). Even so, once you enter the big doors on the sidewalk that lead into a courtyard and the stairs to the apt it's very quiet. It's like entering a refuge from the busy city, quite a contrast. We had the windows open a lot and experienced little noise. We shut them at night, however, and closed the drapes for privacy. A couple of small issues, burned-out bulbs in the bathroom and a leaky sink weren't a big deal (I didn't bother to contact Philippe about this ). It's also a bit hard to take a shower using the overhead fixture and not soak the bathroom. Some kind of shower curtain would be nice. You do have the option to use a hand-held spray head instead of the overhead. There are numerous cafes, restaurants and small markets in the neighborhood, and the Centre Pompidou is really close. I'd highly recommend Philippe's apt. We enjoyed it very much and would happily return.

If you are looking for an affordable apartment in le Marais that's conveniently located, this is a property you would consider. The 'double' bed is too small for my husband and me, and we're not big people (we're under 5 feet 5 inches in height and less than 130 pounds each in weight). The bathroom (shower and toilet) was not very clean (odor of urine) and very tight. Water from the shower sprayed out to the floor because there was only a low partition wall between the sink and shower. We had to rig up a makeshift 'shower curtain' with a garbage bag to prevent the floor from being wet when we use the shower. On the positive side, Philippe is a very responsive host who provided us with solutions whenever we faced a problem. He replaced a broken fan right away when informed by us. Similarly, he came right after work to replace the toilet seat that came apart a day after we checked-in. He was also very honest in admitting that the photos on the Airbnb website tend to make the apartment larger than it really is (25 square meters). Balancing the host's strong points and the excellent location of the property against the negatives, I would still give Philippe's apartment 4 stars.

Philippe's apartment was clean and centrally located. It is in a lively neighborhood but since it faces a private courtyard it is very quiet. All of Paris's sights are right out the door. The coffee machine and washer/dryer were also very convenient. We would definitely stay there again.

Absolute perfect location. All needs are in this little gem of an apartment. I did wish there had been a throw on the couch the one evening it was cool simply to snuggle up with; the other evenings of our six night stay were extremely warm. We were greeted promptly and our luggage carried up the three flights for us! Philippe has a nice book to explain everything. I will note that while we're there the construction that was going on in the building began quite early that is my sole reason for the four stars. Great place.
