The Space

We are renting a quiet bedroom in a finished basement with a private bath. The bedroom has a queen-size bed, desk, microwave and closet. The room has a separate heater and fan so you can be comfortable at any time of the year. In the bathroom you will find a coffee maker with cups and coffee and tea. The shower is large and comfortable. You also have access to a fridge outside your room in the hallway. There is also a separate entrance if you don't want to enter through the living room.

As you saw in our profile, we are semi-retired. We would love to talk to you. Come and visit and we will do our best to answer all your questions. We have a large living room with a TV. You can join us or watch TV by yourself.

You are in the center of Sq. Hill. There are plenty of restaurants, coffee shops, ice cream parlors and a large super market. We have two movie theaters and a bunch of synagogues and churches. And everything is in walking distance - maximum 5 minutes.

There are also quite a few buses that go in every direction. If you are visiting the universities or hospitals in Oakland, it will be easy for you to get there.

We also have a nice large park near by called Shenley Park. You can go for a walk or run or take your children to play.

There are several gyms near by. You could get a day pass or weekly pass.

If you are interested in learning about different cultures, this is the place for you.

  • The hosts, Dan and Schomit were very nice, the room was perfect for what we needed, privacy with our own bath and a place to crash for the night.

  • Shlomit and her husband Dan were wonderful hosts! They left me to my own devices, and I could come and go comfortably over the days that I was there. The room was as described, and temperature-wise, with the hot weather outside, coming back to a nice cool room was amazing. The bathroom is set apart from the room but is just a few steps from the room. Sometimes Dan and Shlomit get the laundry or Dan goes to his office, but other than that, the bottom floor is yours. The neighborhood is super cute with a good handful, or more, of coffee and tea shops. There are diverse restaurants, and even a Vietnamese one for me (the pho isn't so good there but the bun bo hue is pretty good). All in all, I would totally recommend Dan and Shlomit's place - I would book a room the second I knew I were going to be in Pittsburgh!

  • Shlomit and her husband received my graciously. She offered me a delicious vegetable soup that I slurped down after a 6 hour drive! The area was quiet and peaceful, I enjoyed the charm of the neighborhood. They provided me with very helpful advice regarding looking for an apartment in the area. The room was clean, her instructions were clear to make the most use of the place. There was a microwave, provided WIFI, a clean bathroom with towels and lots of kindness in the place. Thanks for having me Shlomit!!

  • My wife and I stayed with Shlomit and Dani for 11 days. We were warmly welcomed and treated very well during our stay. They are lovely people and gracious and caring hosts. We would stay with them again without hesitation. The location of their home is central to the life and action of Squirrel Hill. Although the accommodations are in a basement, the space is very well done, light and airy. The bathroom is a full bath room. It was a bonus to have use of the laundry faciltities and nice to be able to use the upstairs living room.

  • Shlomit was lovely to deal with on the phone. Since she and Dani had to be away, they arranged for access to the house and left bagels for breakfast. The location was excellent--quiet, convenient, with on-street parking. The bed is soft, which is more to my taste than my husband's. Highly recommend!
