Historic Comfort - Walk Everywhere!

House - Private room · Ellsworth St, Philadelphia, PA 19147, United States

Warm, comfortable historic house with full access to kitchen & common living spaces. A pleasant walk to the Historic District, Italian Market & other tourist destinations. Adorable cats to keep you company.

The Space

Walk to the Liberty Bell, Independence Hall & the Constitution Center in less than thirty minutes (15 blocks), or take the bus to the Historic District & museums & arrive in ten minutes.

One block from The Mummers Museum and six blocks from our famous Italian Market. Plenty of free, safe, unrestricted on-street parking in the immediate vicinity. A ten minute walk (8 blocks) to South Street shops and restaurants, and many, many bars, restaurants and coffee shops within a few blocks.

Historic, preserved Philadelphia row-home with many charming, original details. You will have quiet and privacy with only me, the cats, and sometimes my quiet & friendly boyfriend sharing the house with you. I share this house with three social cats, so guests should be non-allergic, and enjoy the company of cats.

Bed in room is a premium, comfortable full-sized futon on a frame. Bedroom is freshly painted & newly re-decorated. Sheer curtains backed by mini-blinds allow you to control light. My award-winning garden is the perfect place to sit for a cup of coffee, glass of wine & conversation.

Bathroom has a shower stall, and no bathtub. I share this shower, as I have a bathroom without a shower off of my own bedroom - this bathroom will be almost private for you, as I will most likely shower when you are not here (usually in the afternoon) and will otherwise use another bathroom.

You're welcome to use the kitchen, living room, and, of course, the garden. You will be given house keys so you can come & go as you please. A do-it-yourself breakfast is provided; cereal, bread, yogurt, fruit, orange juice, coffee & tea are generally available. You will have full access to the kitchen. I can tell you where the nearest grocery stores are if you'd like to shop, cook and eat meals at home. Tea, coffee and filtered water are available any time of day or night - help yourself.

Fast WiFi throughout the house & garden. There is no television on the premises. There is space cleared for you in bedside tables, the dresser & a closet. Clean linens & towels provided.

Typical of historic Philadelphia row-home architecture, my spiral staircase is steep and narrow. It has lots of charm and character, but it could be difficult for people with physical limitations - may not be recommended for those with mobility challenges.

LGBT friendly.

Guest Access

Kitchen, my award-winning garden, all common areas.

Interaction with Guests

We will be sharing space in a small row home, so I'll be generally available to answer all of your questions. Your room is private to you during your stay, so while I'll be totally accessible to you, you'll have as much privacy as you desire.

The Neighborhood

I live just close enough to downtown (Center City) to be able to walk there in 15 minutes, and just far enough outside of it to be quiet, and for parking to be free & available. It's the best of both wolds, with coffee shops & restaurants within a couple of blocks of my home.

Getting around

There are two separate bus lines that stop right around the corner from my house - couldn't be easier!

Other Things to Note

If you like the company of cats, and are not allergic - this is the place for you!

  • Carrie is a wonderful host. Friendly, accessible and generous. Her home is charming, cozy, quiet and comfortable with her lovely cats. The garden is lovely as well. I had a fantastic stay here (just too short), it is in a great neighborhood and close to everything. I highly recommend Carrie's home for delightful accommodations, some friendly chats as well as a lovely private and comfy room.

  • Carrie is a great host who provided breakfast and lots of helpful info. Her house is right on the bus line so it takes about 20 minutes to get to the centre of town. Her house is also a lovely homely space - i'd definitely stay here again if I come back to philly.

  • We have enjoyed our stay with Carrie and her 3 cats, this was a haven to return to from Philadelphia's cold and wet. The bed was comfortable. Carrie was helpful and accommodating and made us feel most welcome. We shall certainly look her up on our next visit.

  • Carrie was a wonderful host! Her house was exactly as advertised and my boyfriend and I felt very much at home right away: it was clean, spacious and cozy. It was great to get to know Carrie and she made lots of recommendations and gave us tips on how to get around in the city. We would come back anytime - not least of all because of Carrie's amazing cats. Thank you for your hospitality!

  • Carrie was an amazing host to us. She is very friendly, helpful and interesting to have conversations with. She is culturally educated and was a great help in navigating through Philadelphia’s great variety of restaurants and museums. Her cute and friendly cats fit perfectly in her cozy and welcoming home. We enjoyed staying there so much that we didn’t go out quite as much as we had planned and had a restful time at Carrie’s place. The combination of Philadelphia’s elegance and Carrie’s charm and warm hospitality assures me that we will definitely stay there again one day.

  • Carrie, and her cats, were wonderful hosts. Carrie was very warm and welcoming. She had a wealth of information and helpful suggestions for visiting Philadelphia. We might have missed two of our favourite sights (Eastern State Penitentiary and The Magic Garden) had it not been for her suggestions. We felt very much at home in Carrie's warm and tidy apartment. She made sure that we were always comfortable and kept us well supplied with tea and coffee. A definite recommend, we look forward to visiting with her again!
