About this listing
Comfortable historic house with full access to kitchen & common living spaces. A pleasant half hour walk to history museums & monuments. Very close to the Italian Market & other tourist destinations. Adorable cats to keep you company.
Historic, preserved row-home with many original details. The two most beautiful tabby cats.
Walk to the Liberty Bell, Independence Hall & the Constitution Center in less than thirty minutes. Bus stops just steps away & gets you downtown in minutes. Forty minute walk/20 minute bus to Convention Center. Many, many bars, restaurants and coffee shops within a few blocks. Plenty of free, safe, unrestricted on-street parking in the immediate vicinity.
Guest room is one flight up from the ground floor, the spiral staircase is steep and narrow - it has lots of historic charm & character, but could be difficult for people with physical limitations. Home is not set up to be safe for small children (but older kids/teens are welcome.)
Bed in room is a premium, comfortable full-size (54" x 75") futon on a frame. Room is approx 12 x 11' (132 sq ft, 12.26 sq m.) Sheer curtains backed by mini-blinds allow you to control light levels.
Bathroom has a shower stall, and no bathtub. I share the shower, but otherwise use another bathroom. This bathroom will be almost private for you, as I will usually shower when you are not here.
You're welcome to use the kitchen, living room, and garden. You will be given house keys so you can come & go as you please. A do-it-yourself breakfast is provided; cereal, bread, yogurt, fruit, orange juice, coffee & tea are generally available. You will have full access to the kitchen. Tea, coffee and filtered water are available any time.
Fast WiFi throughout the house & garden. There is no television on the premises.
Kitchen, my award-winning garden, all common areas.
Interaction with Guests
We will be sharing space in a small row home, so I'll be generally available to answer all of your questions. Your room is private to you during your stay, so while I'll be totally accessible to you, you'll have as much privacy as you desire.
I live just close enough to downtown (Center City) to be able to walk there in 15 minutes, and just far enough outside of it to be quiet, with readily available, free parking. It's the best of both worlds, with coffee shops & restaurants within a couple of blocks of my home.
You can easily walk to the historic area (Liberty Bell, Independence Hall, etc) from my home. There are two separate bus lines that stop right around the corner from my house - couldn't be easier!
Other Things to Note

Carrie is the most incredible host. She's warm, friendly, helpful and her place is adorable. She invited me out to both yoga and a night of dancing which were a real treat. She's also perfectly willing to leave you to your own devices -- a great balance.
Her home is lovely, clean and inviting. Her two cats pretty much leave you alone so if you're not a cat person it's not a big deal. Oh and the water pressure in her shower is also very good. I'm weird about things like that.
I would stay at her place again in a heart beat. Thanks Carrie!!!
I had a great time in Philly! Carrie was very nice, and she had lots of recommendations for things to do. I love her home and her garden. I would definitely stay again.
Carrie is an excellent host who really strives to make sure her guests feel welcome and have everything they need. She offered us delicious food from the farmers' market, shared her tea and coffee, and was especially helpful with navigating the city. The 200 year-old house and garden is a sweet little three-story walk-up in a great location not far from Center City and the Historic areas of Philadelphia. The #57 bus runs a loop a block from Carrie's house right to Independence Hall area. Her cats were fun to get to know and each has a definite personality. The guest suite is on the second floor up a narrow, winding stairway, so keep that in mind when you bring that huge suitcase! If you are looking for a place to stay with lots of personality, and a great host who will likely become a friend, then stay at Carrie's house. We look forward to visiting her, and Philly, again soon.
What a wonderful time we had in Philadelphia! Staying at Carrie's home made this possible. She warmly welcomed us so we felt like we were staying with a good friend. We weren't sure of our arrival time so she was very flexible in attending our needs. We walked everywhere we wanted to go and fell in love with the city. Our stay in her home was comfortable. The first night was warm but she has an air conditioner in the window that cooled the room quickly and efficiently. I lost the little chip out of my camera and didn't realize it until I was at the airport. She found it and mailed it to me. Wow! So kind!!! Carrie goes over and beyond to create the perfect stay.
Me and my girlfriend had a great time and awesome experience just to get away and relax. With a wonderful host and neighbor hood and everything been walking distance it was amazing. I really enjoy my stay and it was a very peaceful and beautiful location to visit. Can't wait to go again :) 10/10
Carrie's place is unique. She has a garden out back I could only describe as magical. She is in a great location. You can walk into the city, you can walk to markets, you can walk over to the redeveloped waterfront park and trails. The room is very comfortable and Carrie herself is one of the most gracious hosts I've had. I wrote a whole blog about her and AirBnB. You can check it out here. (website hidden)
