About this listing
This is one of the most beautiful houses on Lantau. Old but good. Mezzanine kitchen, huge roof garden, quiet but close to public transport - this place has everything. Only available from September 14 to October 1
ONLY AVAILABLE SEPTEMBER 14 TO OCTOBER 1!
Beautiful village house with fantastic view of the South China Sea. Very light and airy, the house is less than one minute's walk from bus and taxi and five minutes' walk from the beach. There are several restaurants and two bars within a 300 metre radius.
The house is old after Hong Kong standards and is the only one of its kind in the whole city! The living room has high ceilings, a ceiling fan and hundreds, nay, thousands, of books. There are also hundreds of DVDs in the media room if you get bored.
The village is quiet and nothing ever happens, apart from a water buffalo leisurely crossing the road now and then. But you're close to all the attractions of Lantau such as Tai O, Cheung Sha beach, the Big Buddha as well as Disneyland and the airport.
There are several great restaurants and bars within walking distance including one one the beach and a Spanish tapas bar. BUT it has changed its menu to more nachos and burger-y now...
There is also excellent hiking terrain with everything from dead flat and super steep. Pui O's special attraction is the water buffalo roaming around. You can see them on my you tube channel Cantocourse. The film is called Buffalo Brill. In fact you can see all of Pui O in this film. Nature enthusiasts will love this place which is also only 50 minutes from Central. 42 if you're lucky.
I cut my TV cable 4 years ago because I couldn't stand the adverts, but there is a DVD player. There is wi-fi; no need for password.
Interaction with Guests
I have three domestic helpers nearby whose phone numbers I will give you when you book. You can call them any time.
I will leave bus schedules, taxi number etc. in the space. It's really easy to get around.
The dog in the photos is no more but there is another one. However she lives in the corridor and walks herself. My maid will feed her and fill her water bowl. If you want my maid to clean for you and do your laundry, you'll have to pay her yourself.
This was our first experience with airbnb and it was a very pleasant one thanks to Cecilie, her helpers, the beautiful house and the wonderful location.
Cecilie accepted my booking and arranged everything even though I made the request only one day prior the arrival. We arrived very late in the evening but it was no problem for Cecilie and her helper even picked us up at the bus station at this late time. Wow! We didn't expect that. And it was really helpful because I guess it is not too easy to find the house even though we got really nice maps with pictures from Cecilie.
In the house everything was fine, it is an old house and you can tell but if you don't mind this it's a perfect stay. Personally I totally agree with one of the previous reviews that it is full of character and art.
If you come in winter you should consider that the room temperature is relatively low (as almost everywhere in HK because usually nobody has heatings) so make sure to bring enough warm clothes. If the sun is shining you can warm up on the fantastic terrace!
The location is so beautiful. We were looking for a quiet place to relax and this is what we found. We loved the peaceful village, go running and walking at the beach, hiking in the mountains and we loved the cute dog. The transportation around the island was easy and frequent and also to Hong Kong it was no problem even in the evening.
We enjoyed our time there!
If you want to get away from the hustle and bustle of Hong Kong, this is a great place to relax and chill for a week or two.
We're lucky that we found & were able to stay at Cecilie's home. It's filled with character and art. The house is pretty old but quite charming. There's a great restaurant a 3 minute walk from the house, and the beach is only a couple of more minutes walk away. The beach view on the rooftop is also amazing. We also enjoyed Cecilie's DVD and CD collections.
Would love to come back soon!
Cecilie's home is a wonderfully unique and peaceful place that I loved staying in. Granted, most people do not come to Hong Kong for peace and quiet but if (like me) you become slightly allergic to shopping malls and neon after a few days and want to start your day with a walk along the beach (where there are water buffalo grazing quietly) before wandering the urban jungle of Hong Kong then this is the perfect place. I had a wonderful time and hope to be back!
