Walking distance to all downtown amenities/restaurants/museums/nightclubs/shopping/casinos
Casa 69 has large rooms, helpful staff, good brekkys and is an easy stroll to down town, but - and this is a big but - it is very noisy. There is a pub either side of the hotel and a train line passes about 30 metes away. The pubs operate until late at night and the trains sound their horns loudly and repeatedly every time they round the bend. The hotel has taken some measures to minimise the noise, but if you are not a sound sleeper, I would suggest somewhere else.
We had a good stay at casa 69! The staff was friendly and helpful in arranging further travel arrangements for us. Downtown was within 10 minute walking distance, we felt secure at all times (+room equipped with no.-lock safe). Nice little roof terrace!
Stayed here just one night- though we thought that was plenty for San Jose... location is the best, close to all you want to see in town and a cool irish pub just on the corner. Clean and nicely decorated. Really cute garden to have breakfast and chill in, +1 for the rooftop. The staff was super friendly and helpful, nicest people!
We had a very positive experience with Casa 69 and of special note of thanks to Winston who was so kind to assist every step of the way. The room was extraordinarily lovely in decor and art. Very sophisticated and up- scale. The breakfasts were fresh; the coffee Costa Rican - of course! I could go on about that place forever. Think Europe, think urban enclave. Lovely! You know...even the train didn't bother me. Our only difficulty was finding the place. Winston helped and so did a trusty map, and some mighty good navigation from the co-pilot. ;). Really good restaurants around as you're in an urban neighborhood. Walking around felt comfortable for us, but watch those sidewalks and crazy drivers. We even walked to and back to a restaurant several blocks away after dark. Not recommended perhaps, but no harm, no foul.
We stayed at Donna and Dave's our first and last night in C.R., 10 days apart. Donna and her staff were friendly and courteous. When Donna was not there, Winston and the young gentleman that handled the overnight shift, were always there to help. I had to make numerous uses of the "house" computer and printer. Even when there was a problem with said printer, Donna was patient to work through it with me and get the documents printed. We really liked the way Donna decorated the premises, it made you feel as though you were in a more rural location.
It was a little disconcerting walking through the neighborhood where the hotel is located, but once you enter the gate you will see this is a safe and comfortable place to stay. The neighborhood is not unsafe but the omnipresent crowd of people waiting outside of the Nicaraguan embassy at the end of the street made it seem less secure than it really is.
Donna gave us some very good restaurant recommendations that made our dining experiences in San Jose memorable.
We will stay there again when we go back later this year.
Thank You Donna and Staff.
We had a car and had very challenging time finding this place!! We were unaware that San Jose really does not have addresses and street names. After tracking down policeman who called Casa 69 and got us to the right neighborhood we finally found the place. Others also said cabs had hard time finding the place. Your clue to finding it is the Nicaraguan Embassy
We found our rooms to be clean and fine. Staff was very nice and helpful.(only a few spoke English). We had a nice breakfast each morning with options for bigger choices for an additional fee.
The only thing I would warn folks about is if you have a cat allergy you are going to have problems as there are many cats and they are all over everything and occasionally have a cat fight over food in the atrium. The wifi was marginal but we were able to get out on some devices some of the time. There is a computer in the lobby you can use. There is a nearby train that runs during the week from 6:30 AM- about 9:30 PM with a pretty loud horn but you get used to it after awhile and it didn't seem to run as early on the weekends.
Casa 69 is right down from the Nicaraguan Embassy so there are lots of folks around during the day with some hanging around at night. We always ate dinner early so never had a problem but a person staying at Casa 69 had his wallet lifted from his front pants pocket one night between the bus stop and Casa 69.
The reservation was canceled 2 days before arrival. This is an automated posting.
We were only there for 2 nights but Casa 69 is as nice as it looks in the pics. The rooms are very modern and very clean. The host was very friendly and helpfull. Has a small rooftop deck for a bit of tanning. It's located very close to downtown and amenities. If staying in San Jose I would highly recommend Casa 69.
We enjoyed our one night stay at this beautiful location. The terrace a the the top was really fun and the open environment made me feel like I was in the jungle even though I was in the middle of the city. I've been recommending this place to other travelers since we left!
Casa 69 is well located in San Jose and safe. Breakfast is good and the people working there are really nice.
Street can be loud but this was not a problem for us.
The only shortcoming is that we could not get wifi in the room so we had to go to the main house to go online.
