This spanish colonial revival home was built in 1925 and was the first house built in the San Roque neighborhood. There is a separate entrance to the master bedroom suite which includes a bedroom with king size tempurpedic mattress, luxurious linens, down comforter and private bathroom with shower off of the bedroom. The private entrance opens into the sitting room with a large flat screen TV, Blu-ray DVD, cable and wifi internet are included. The sitting room has a large comfy sofa which can easily be slept on by one person. There is also a mini-fridge, coffee maker, and electric tea kettle.
A beautiful 100 year old oak tree is outside the sitting room's picture window. There is also a picnic table and chairs for you to use outside the entrance, and mountain views. The section of the yard outside the entrance is for our guests but it is connected to the rest of the house's front yard. Parking is available on the street and neighborhood is very safe.
San Roque is one of the most beautiful neighborhoods in Santa Barbara with a diversity of architecture, great trees and parks, plus it is family friendly and very close to downtown. Lots of great local shops, the best bookstore in town, grocery store, and one of our most famous cocktail bars are all within walking distance. San Roque is considered one of the neighborhoods that is a hidden gem in Santa Barbara. Our house is one block off of State Street and 2 miles to Hendry's beach (Arroyo Burro).
All we ask is for our guests to leave the apartment the way they found it, although no need to make the bed. The apartment does share a wall with the main house so we try to make sure we won't disturb you, and vice versa.
We welcome dogs only. We have a small dog and your dog is welcome to share the front and back yard with our dog. There will be an additional pet deposit.
No smoking and no more than 4 people. The apartment would just be too small : )
It was a nice quiet neighborhood right near State St and easy to access. Also the room was very quiet and cozy at night. We were very appreciative of that. The extra living room space, the couch and the table and chairs where we could eat our breakfast were nice and cozy. The rooms were also nicely decorated with period furniture and original artwork. It was very warm and welcoming.
We've stayed at a fair number of Airbnb locations and were disappointed in this rental. We were disappointed to find the front yard fairly messy upon our arrival (with a large black trampoline near the main path, and six dirty/stained upholstered dining room chairs under the beautiful oak tree right in front of the room where we were staying). This was a little surprising since we have stayed in four other Santa Barbara homes and all have had beautiful manicured yards - all impeccable. The pictures of the site did not show these.
Two other disappointments were the bathroom shower and the bed. The bathroom shower had a water restrictor on it (due to water restrictions) which resulted in minimal water for a shower with minimal pressure. My husband merely rinsed off and did not take a complete shower for fear of not being able to get the soap off. (This week we stayed in 3 other locales up the coast - all with water restrictors - but all of which had adequate pressure and water for a short shower.) The bed although comfortable, was definitely not a "Temperpedic" bed and was instead made from three layers of yellow foam stacked on top of an older style mattress. It felt OK but it was a little strange. The bed sheets were covering this stack.
We did not see or meet Jennifer. We would very likely not rent this suite again given the above issues and would also not recommend this location to a friend because of these issues as well.
It is a lovely home that has wonderful possibilities and if these issues could be corrected we would consider changing our minds.
This was a wonderful place to stay. Communication with Jennifer was clear, and it was completely straightforward to find and get into the place. It was very clean and even more spacious than the photos suggest. It's on a nice quiet residential street and we heard almost no noise during our entire (1 week) stay. The bed was supremely comfortable!
We really appreciated the coffee, tea, and fresh milk that Jennifer left for us in the fridge.
The only drawback was the abysmal water pressure in the shower. I'd call it more of a gentle sprinkling of water.
The neighborhood was nice and quiet and the room was just as described. We share a wall with the host, but they were very good with keeping the noise down so it wasn't a problem at all.
Perfect stop over. Host was responsive. Everything was clean, house was very quiet and there was a great yard for our dog to play in. We'll be back.
The reservation was canceled 4 days before arrival. This is an automated posting.
While we never meet Jennifer the cottage was ready when we arrived. The accommodation was clean and cosy. And the bed was one of the best I have had the pleasure sleeping in!!
I am a southern girl raised in Louisville Kentucky. I am married with two girls, ages 8 and 12. I have lived in Santa barbara on and off for the past 20 years, I am a former restaurant owner and am currently trying to survive making pinot noir from Cailfornias Santa Rita Hills. I have always enjoyed entertaining, and truly love music ! My family spends lot of time outdoors hiking, biking, dog walking or just enjoying one of many stellar sunsets Santa Barbara has to offer. We truly love our home and look forward to sharing it with you!
