About this listing
This spanish colonial revival home was built in 1925 and was the first house built in the San Roque neighborhood. There is a separate entrance to the master bedroom suite which includes a bedroom with king size tempurpedic mattress, luxurious linens, down comforter and private bathroom with shower off of the bedroom. The private entrance opens into the sitting room with a large flat screen TV, Blu-ray DVD, cable and wifi internet are included. The sitting room has a large comfy sofa which can easily be slept on by one person. There is also a mini-fridge, coffee maker, and electric tea kettle.
A beautiful 100 year old oak tree is outside the sitting room's picture window. There is also a picnic table and chairs for you to use outside the entrance, and mountain views. The section of the yard outside the entrance is for our guests but it is connected to the rest of the house's front yard. Parking is available on the street and neighborhood is very safe.
San Roque is one of the most beautiful neighborhoods in Santa Barbara with a diversity of architecture, great trees and parks, plus it is family friendly and very close to downtown. Lots of great local shops, the best bookstore in town, grocery store, and one of our most famous cocktail bars are all within walking distance. San Roque is considered one of the neighborhoods that is a hidden gem in Santa Barbara. Our house is one block off of State Street and 2 miles to Hendry's beach (Arroyo Burro).
All we ask is for our guests to leave the apartment the way they found it, although no need to make the bed. The apartment does share a wall with the main house so we try to make sure we won't disturb you, and vice versa.
We welcome dogs only. We have a small dog and your dog is welcome to share the front and back yard with our dog. There will be an additional pet deposit.
No smoking and no more than 4 people. The apartment would just be too small : )
the house was easy to find- it is not light as the picture shows, it is a rather dark place- would have been good if the garbage had been emptied and the carpets vacuumed- a bit musty smelling
fairly quiet neighborhood, comfortable bed, nice shower, clean bedding and linens
room for improvement
Thank You Jennifer! We had a great time staying in your comfy Suite. It was just as advertized. The king size bed was the most comfortable bed I've ever slept on. Your restaurant advice was spot on. The only thing bad about the experience is we wish we could have stayed longer!! Unfortunately we had to get back home. Believe me when I say we will be back!! Thanks again. Greg & Jeff
This was our first AirBnB experience together. Jennifer's place in Santa Barbara is very conveniently located. It was within a short drive to downtown SB as well as to the beach. It is located in a very quiet community and Jennifer even added a new portable A/C unit to keep the place cool along with a desktop fan and a ceiling fan. Jennifer was very responsive to communication from us. She addressed problems and answered questions in a very timely manner. The suite was well insulated from the rest of the house - we rarely heard any sound from her or her family. For the most part, everything was as advertised in her listing with a couple of exceptions. The pictures on her listing appear older than what we experienced. For example, there is another sofa in the bedroom that's not pictured and the living room sofa is not as new as it appears in the picture. Those are minor details though. The major challenges we experienced involved a lot of dust, cobwebs and spiders. The suite has not been thoroughly dusted in a long time based on the cobwebs found on lamps, plants, window blinds and windows as well as around the front door. We also experienced 4 live spiders inside the suite as well as a bunch on the outside. We've learned that in the future we will ask for more specific information about the upkeep of a property. We did not raise these concerns with Jennifer based on the fact that she couldn't have adequately addressed these issues in the time that we were there. We noticed that other listings have not mentioned these same challenges. We based our selection of this listing primarily on the reviews and we're surprised that no other reviewer mentioned the presence of dust, cobwebs and spiders. We hope that Jennifer hears in this review that we're only concerned about guests' comfort and does not feel personally attacked. As stated earlier, she was very responsive to small issues we experienced and we appreciated the professionalism she displayed.
When the host was home, she was very welcoming and friendly. Everything was ready and well organized in the room. The place is like a spacious studio apartment attached to the owner's home, but with complete privacy. There is a spacious living area and a separate bed/bath. The front yard is great for dogs and there are lots of shops and restaurants within a short distance.
The king size bed comes with a comfy memory foam topper, and while the AC doesn't seem to work, there are plenty of fans and cool evening temperatures even in the middle of summer. Expect good sleep while staying here.
As some others have mentioned, the shower definitely needs addressing. We're in a drought, so a low-flow shower makes sense. This, however, appears to be just a complete lack of water pressure. The water seems to sort of fall out of about 60% of the shower head holes.
That said, the shower has to be the only negative about this place. Cute house, great location, excellent host. While the house is located just off the State Street, it's probably about 2.5 miles with hills to the downtown area of State Street. There are plenty of places to enjoy nearby, and an Uber or Lyft ride should be dirt cheap. Parking is also super easy to find near the house and downtown, so if you're bringing your own car, there should be no problem.
The suite is charming, roomy, in a good location. It is quiet and well-equipped. The shower is adequate. It is overdue for a good scrubbing however.
The place was spacious and clean, we had a great time and definitely would recommend it to others!
