About this listing
We offer a private serene room in a beautiful house in Silicon Valley. The room comes with a private bathroom with tub/shower and lots of free street parking.
There is also a patio for enjoyable outside seating. We are an easy going, open-minded, well-traveled, international couple (German/American) who enjoy good company and conversations. We also have an indoor/outdoor cat and a young dog. The dog is a labradoodle who is supposedly hypoallergenic and doesn't shed. He is super friendly but also very playful and definitely wants to get to know you. In any case the pets are not allowed in the guest bedroom and bathroom but in any case you should love dogs if you plan to stay here.
The house is in a quiet neighborhood in Redwood City, right next to Atherton. Restaurant and shops are within 2-10 minutes driving distance and there is a small mall in walking distance.
We offer free wireless internet, a library with TV, and coffee or tea if needed.
We love eating out and have lots of good recommendations for ethnic restaurants on the peninsula as well as in San Francisco.
There is easy access to 280 and 101 and you are within minutes in Palo Alto/Stanford. San Francisco is a 35 - 40 minute ride by car depending on traffic. SFO is 25 minutes away and there is also access to Cal Train.
Guest have access to the guest room, the private bathroom and to the library upstairs. The library has a TV , however no cable - only Internet TV.
The patio is also open to hang out when it's warm which is most often but not all times.
As for the kitchen guests can use the coffee maker, make tea, and place food items in the fridge but we ask you to refrain from cooking.
Interaction with Guests
We love to host and we love to get to know our guests (at least a little bit) :-). Usually both my husband and I are around during your stay and happy to answer any questions you might have.
Quiet residential neighborhood. Downtown Redwood City, Menlo Park and Palo Alto are close by. A supermarket and smaller restaurants are in walking distance.
Highly recommend having a car. Street parking is ample and free.
Initially we had a difficult time to come up with house rules because most seemed to us common sense. However common sense is not always so common. So we learned along the way that some rules may be worth sharing to avoid misunderstandings.
First thing is to be aware that you are renting a room, not the entire house. We will be here during your stay and we ask to treat the property with respect and in the same way you wanted guests to treat your place. We don't care when you leave the house or when you return we just ask to be quiet when returning home late. We will do the same.
Since we have carpet upstairs we ask to remove shoes when entering the house.
We also ask to not bring any visitors into the house that stay here overnight (unless it is properly booked through airbnb) or just hang out here. For pick up, etc. this is of course not a problem.
Last but not least, you can use the kitchen to make a coffee or tea in the morning but we ask to please not cook. If you are unsure about certain things just ask. We want your stay to be mutually enjoyable and we are happy to help out with any questions you may have.
We look forward to meeting you.
I'm from Germany and have been living in the US since 2012. My husband was born in England, grew up in Germany and has been in California for over 20 years. We are working professionals with no kids but with a cat and a dog. We love the outdoors...hiking, windsurfing, running, traveling, etc and are both easy going and resourceful people. Besides this we love meeting new people and have used Airbnb as guests a lot as well. When we travel we like to be as independent as possible and staying somewhere through Airbnb enhances this experience. We feel more like "locals" in foreign places :-).
