Through some unexpected twist of fate, we have gone from renting little houses in cold, inaccessible parts of the country to a huge 5 bedroomed farmhouse on the stunning Cornish Riviera, just off the Roseland Peninsula and within the wider estate of the Lost Gardens of Heligan. From our back garden we have a view of the sea and a footpath leading straight to Pentewan beach, less than half an hours walk away. The Lost Gardens of Heligan are on our doorstep and nowhere in Cornwall's wildly varied landscape is more than a day trip away.
With there being only 2 of us, we had to decide what to do with the extra 4 bedrooms. A traditional run of the mill B&B was never going to be our style and long term lodgers seemed all very permanent. Right about then, Airbnb was recommended to us and the prefect solution clicked. What we have now is a giant homestay, hopefully somewhere you can really relax and feel at home. You are welcome to make use of the kitchen to cook meals, and help yourself to tea and coffee whenever you fancy. We have a piano in the living room that we can't really play so its particularly nice when we get guests who can make the most of it.
We try to be as flexible as possible, no strict check in or out times we work this on a day by day basis depending on what your plans are. If you are travelling as a family we can put a double or single airbed in one of the rooms so you can all stay together or we have a bunk room perfect for extra adults or kids. If you are not sure if we can help, the best thing to do is get in touch, let us know what you are looking for and we will do our best to help.
The kitchen and bathrooms are shared with the whole household, obviously you have your private bedroom and there is an old slate floored living and dining room shared with other guests. We have our own living area where our animals stay so you will never find yourself tripping over us or our animals (unless you want to that is!) but you always know where to find us. Next to the kitchen at the back of the house is the old pantry where you are welcome to use the fridge and storage space for your own food. On from the pantry we have room for safe bike, surfboard and kayak storage.
Breakfast is continental style consisting of our own handmade organic bread, cereals, oats, fruit, a selection of teas and coffee, milk and soya milk, jam and marmalade. If you fancy a fry up you are welcome to supply the ingredients and use the kitchen to cook this yourself. We lay out our breakfast in the dining room the night before so its easy to find in the morning and ready for you whether you rise at 6am or 12pm!
There is parking available on the driveway for at least 5 cars. If you are travelling by public transport we are more than happy to collect and drop you from Truro or St Austell stations. We can also help with lifts around the local area for a small fuel charge. Our closest bus stop is at Heligan (10 minutes walk) but the drivers will usually stop outside the house for drop off's if you ask.
Pets are welcome to stay at the house, obviously our first priority is keeping our animals safe and the house comfortable for everybody so please read over our house rules if you are interested in staying with a pet.
Our closest shop is Lobbs Farm Shop, 10 minutes walk from the house. We are 1 mile from the historic fishing village of Mevagissey, home to plenty of pubs, restaurants, quaint little shops and an impressive two- walled harbour. Pentewan, also 1 mile along a dedicated footpath, is a small town with a pub, a few restaurants, cycle and water sports hire and an extensive, very beautiful beach with a bistro bar on the sand. The Eden Project is 10 miles away by car or there is dedicated cycle route directly from the house.
Room 2 is the biggest of our rooms. It is at the front of the house so gets good light throughout the day and has a view of farmland and woodland out towards Heligan Gardens. there is room in this room to add a single or double airbed to accommodate an extra adult or up to 2 kids, we also have a travel cot that can go in this room. Get in touch and ask us about options and prices for extra people. All our rooms are upstairs and across the hall from a bathroom so you never have far to go. Both bathrooms are cleaned meticulously several times each day.
Although our homestay does help pay our bills it doesn't feel like a business, we love filling the house with life and sharing our good fortune.
Vanessa was a wonderful host - warm hearted, enthusiastic, very helpful & easy & interesting to talk to, and we are sure Lou would have been just the same, if she would have been around!!!
We had a most beautiful stay! Loved the house, room, garden, and the most delicious breakfast including flower decoration on table! Not to forget the company of everybody who was there at the time including cats!!
We would certainly stay at theirs again & thoroughly recommend it!
We spent a windy and rainy week in Cornwall. The house is clean and just lovely, the hosts great - a really welcoming atmosphere! We especially liked the guest's living room with the big sofa and the piano, the rich breakfast with freshly baked bread every morning and the rustic kitchen where we cooked every day. Our son of five loved the cats and dogs and got along really well with Vanessa ;)
The area is nice, too, the ocean is just a five-minute car drive away, and a lot of other stuff to see and do. Thanks for everything!
We had a great stay with Vanessa and Lou. Lovely house and hosts in a great location. Would definitely stay again!
This farmhouse is simply amazing. the location is great if you want to visit Cornwall. You are not too far from the "Lost gardens of Heligans" and they are superb to visit ! You step outside and you can enjoy local walks that will bring you to the beach!
Our host Vanessa and Lou were the best host you can ever imagine. Our room was great with nice comfy beds and lovely sheets!
We had breakfast in the morning at the communal table and there is even a living room for the guest only! Vanessa made some homemade bread for the guests in the morning...What else could you dream of on holidays ?
I would definitely recommend this place to anyone who visit Cornwall.
Marty and I had a really enjoyable and easygoing stay with Vanessa and Lou. Vanessa and Lou rent out a small handful of rooms and we were staying in Room 2 which was clean, quiet and of a large size with a really comfortable bed and nice sheets! Their house is an eighteenth century work-in-progress farmhouse but we found it fully functional to our needs. The (shared) bathroom is large and kept meticulously clean. There is a guest sitting room and dining room. Vanessa and Lou made a LOVELY homemade bread which went really well with some marmalade and gazing out over rainy Cornwall. Location wise it is perfect. Yes, it's close to the road but there is no traffic at nighttime and minimal traffic during the day. There are lots of great walks and bike paths around (a mountain bike is recommended) or you can take a lovely coastal walk down into Mevagissey - a quaint little Cornish seaside village where you can eat pasties and sweets (seasalt chocolate from Digby's - yum!) and soak up the atmosphere as you wander the narrow roads. Vanessa and Lou are the loveliest of ladies and excellent hosts - friendly and available when you need and also respectful of privacy. Thanks for having us!
Where do I start. I will start with our wonderful, kind, attentive, hosts (: Vanessa and Lou were the type of people that will make an impression on you that will be forever remembered. We had the privilege of talking with Vanessa many times. We loved our conversations with her!! The home was so quaint and clean. Our room was comfy and they were so kind to make a bed on the floor for our 14 year old son. The bathrooms were clean and the shower hot and we never had to wait to use the bathroom even though the house was full of guests. There were two bathrooms. We awoke to fresh, homemade, organic bread in the morning and a variety of cereals and fruit and jams and tea and coffee. The walks around their home were fantastic. We were surprised to come over one hill to a full view of the ocean. We ate blackberries along the road until we were full!! We loved having two cats to pet as we missed ours at home. And the washing machine was a life saver!! Vanessa and Lou are so helpful and went out of their way to make us feel at home. Please stay here! You will be happy with your choice. Thank you Lou and Vanessa!!!!! You gave us memories for a lifetime! We are so glad we met you!
Our trip through England led us (a family with one child) for two nights to the Peruppa Farmhouse, where we were warmly welcomed by Vanessa & Lou. In fact, they had already been very responsive during booking and before our arrival.
The place and people are really authentic: no nonsense, no frills.
A refuge for individualists.
We enjoyed a very relaxing and pleasant stay.
Thank you, Vanessa & Lou.
My husband, eight year old daughter and I truly enjoyed our stay with Vanessa and Lou. They were the perfect hosts and went out of their way to make us feel welcome. The old farmhouse had incredible character without sacrificing comfort. We loved our many walks from the house, access to a well-stocked kitchen, encounters with interesting travelers, and romps in the yard with their dogs and cats.
We stayed 5 nights in August, and really liked the friendly atmosphere, very clean house, nice bed and bathrooms and our kids especially the nice garden, dogs and cats...
Wow, Vanessa and Lou are nice ladies, we really liked their style.
Just a minor issue, no coffee for breakfast is a tough one for Austrians used to great coffee, breakfast was very light, too...
but we could prepare more for ourselves.
Don´t miss the gardens of Helgian, while you are staying, but Vanessa´s garden gives a first impression
We spent four days at the farmhouse and felt very much at home, thanks to Lou and Vanessa's warm welcome and their relaxed and helpful manner. We had some great chats with them in the kitchen and with other guests over breakfast or dinner, but the house is big enough to find a quiet corner if you prefer to spend time on your own. The location is perfect for visiting the Lost Gardens of Heligan, the Eden Project, St Michael's Mount, etc. Great homemade bread for breakfast, friendly dogs and cats - we could easily have stayed weeks rather than days!
