Come and stay in my unique London townhouse. A piece of history in trendy Bermondsey, the house dates back to the 1790s. It is ideally situated for the City, West End and Canary Wharf, so makes a great base for sight-seeing, holidays and week-end breaks and is also convenient for those visiting or working in London’s business districts.
(Before booking the flat, please read the house rules to make sure the apartment suits your needs.)
You will have the entire top floor (2nd floor) of the house (70m2/750 sq. ft) to yourselves. You just share the front door to the house and the stairs. It should feel a bit like staying in a boutique aparthotel! Completely refurbished, but at the same time retaining the original period features, the flat sleeps four people comfortably.
There are two double bedrooms which can be made up with superking size double beds or twin beds as required.
The rear bedroom has a lovely sunny south facing balcony overlooking the gardens below, which is perfect for taking breakfast on or catching the last rays of sun with an early evening drink in summer.
All the beds are new and have pocket-sprung mattresses which should give you a fantastic night's sleep.
The new bathroom is equipped with a bath and shower, soaps, shampoo and towels. The heated towel rail means that the bathroom is always cosy and that your towels are warm and dry.
You have exclusive use of a large, well-equipped, open-plan kitchen/living room with brand new 32 inch television, dishwasher, fridge, gas/electric cooker and oven as well as a stylish and incredibly comfortable sofa to relax on after a hard day’s sight-seeing.
You also have free wifi access.
The flat has its own central-heating system which you can switch on or off as needed. Each radiator has a thermostat meaning that you can control the temperature of every room individually.
I am usually around, a floor or two below, to give advice on places to eat and shop, and to answer any questions you might have. At the same time, you are totally independent on your own floor and can make yourselves completely at home, cook dinner, watch TV or just chill with a book or magazine.
In addition to the above, the flat has a hair dryer, toaster, kettle, iron and ironing board. There is no washing machine in the flat, however, for guests staying longer than 1 week, it is possible to use my washing machine which can be found on the lower ground floor. There is no dryer but I can provide airers for hanging your washing on in the flat. Just ask!
EATING AND DRINKING
You have lots of choice when it comes to places to eat nearby, from “Manze’s”, London’s oldest surviving eel and pie shop, to the famous “Pont de la Tour” with its amazing views of the river and Tower Bridge. You’ll find the award winning Italian restaurant, “Zucca”, and acclaimed tapas bars, “Jose” and "Pizarro", on fashionable Bermondsey Street as well as many other great restaurants, cafes and pubs.
For one of the most exciting views in London, why not go for cocktails in the Atrium Bar on the 31st floor of The Shard? On the other hand, if you prefer to eat at home but are too tired to cook, there’s a fish and chip shop opposite the house. The portions are huge! Or if you like your food a bit spicier, there’s an excellent Indian takeaway just along the street.
You have your own well-equipped kitchen which means that you can cater for yourselves. Borough Market, known as “London’s larder”, is in walking distance and comes to life from Wednesday to Saturday. Here you can find everything from the most delicious British cheeses to fresh fish and game. Other great places to shop for food nearby include the markets on Maltby Street, Spa Terminus and Bermondsey Square which are held on Saturday mornings, all three of which are just a 5 minute walk away. If all that shopping has made you thirsty, you can stop off for a glass or two of natural wine at “40 Maltby Street” and enjoy some delicious seasonal food at the same time. They also sell reasonably priced bottles to take away.
SEE THE SIGHTS
Take a stroll along the banks of the Thames to Tate Modern and Shakepeare’s Globe Theatre, or visit White Cube on Bermondsey Street, the biggest private contemporary art space in Europe. Find out how it feels to look down on London from the tallest building in Europe, The Shard, which has recently opened to the public and is a short walk away at London Bridge.
If you are after some traditional sight-seeing, Tower Bridge and the Tower of London are close by, or take a boat trip down the Thames to historic Greenwich or upstream to Westminster Abbey and the Houses of Parliament.
Buses stop every few minutes just in front of the house
The Number 1 takes you to the West End and its theatres and shops in 20 - 30 minutes. It also runs every 30 minutes throughout the night.
The 78 goes to super-trendy Shoreditch and London's main business quarter, the City, via Tower Bridge (10 minutes) and Liverpool Street station (20 minutes).
Bermondsey underground station is on the Jubilee line and is a 10 minute walk away. It’s just two stops to the business district of Canary Wharf, four stops to Westminster and six stops to Bond Street which can be reached door to door from the house in about 30 minutes.
BED LINEN AND CLEANING
Bed linen and towels are provided. Weekly cleaning and linen change for stays of over a week.
I'm afraid that no extra guests can be accommodated. The maximum number of people who can stay at one time is 4.

We enjoyed our stay at Sarahs appartment a lot. Everything is as nice as it is on the pictures. The balcony is perfect for an apéro, the kitchen and the living room for breakfast or even for a dinner if this is required. The beds are very confortable. The only little thing is that it can be a bit noisy in one of the bedrooms at night, because of the street in front of the house (but after all, the appartment is in the middle of London ;-) ). Sarah was helpful, showed us where we can go around nearby and provided useful maps and information. I would absolutely recommend this place. Thank you Sarah!
Sarah's place is very nice and comfortable. We stayed on the top floor with 2 bedrooms. Sarah was a very nice host and very helpful. To be able to use her washing machine was a bonus on our holiday. The beds were very comfortable, the rooms were very spacious. The bus stop outside the house was very helpful for us to get around London. You can easily visit Tower of London. The little grocery shop across the house was very handy to top up what we need, include local SIM card and top up our Oyster Cards. We recommend Sarah's place for people who'd like to visit London. Thank you Sarah!
We - 2 adults and 2 boys (12 and 10) - stayed 7 days at Sarah's and had a really great time! Everything was nice and clean and as everybody said: Sarah is a very caring host. When we arrived flowers and fresh fruit awaited us as well as lots of useful information. Conversation with Sarah via Email also was very easy - answers came quickly and were always very helpful.
Location: The location is quite convenient with the two buslines (1 and 78) right in front of the door and everything you need (Tesco) in walking distance.
Thanks Sarah for everything!! We sure recommend your appartement to friends going to London!
Thank you very much Sarah, it was very nice to meet you and hope to see you again ...
Sarah is very helpful and charming. The apartement is very tastefully decorated. Nothing was missing. Sarah has given us many good tips for our visit.
Only the time of our trip was too short. We would like to come back for a longer time!
Sarah was very helpful, and though we didn't have opportunity to talk with her very much, she was always pleasant and accommodating. She even did some of our laundry for us! She offered to supply breakfast items, and provided our requests, which was very time saving for us. The flat was clean and attractive, and the beds were extremely comfortable. The bus was just outside the door, and made getting around London very convenient. We will stay with Sarah if we should vacation in London again. Thank you Sarah!
Lovely old house in an interesting area. Easy to access public transport.Sarah responded to emails and gave great instructions for arrival. The apartment was big enough for 4 singles and there was plenty of hot water for showers. We ate at one oh her recommended italian restaurants and it was delicious. Only issue to be aware of is 4 flights of stairs. It was not a problem for us as we only had hand luggage, but would be a challenge with big suitcases.
Glad you enjoyed your stay Claire. You'd be welcome back any time.
Just to clarify for anyone considering booking the flat and who has just read Claire's comments: the flat is on the second floor (top floor) of the house, so there are two flights of stairs (not four!) with large half landings in the middle of each flight. The stairs are wide and have a bannister and I am always happy to help with suitcases, if needed.
We had a wonderful time in London at Sarah's flat. She met us upon arrival, and had some handy tips and suggestions for how to get around. There were three of us and we had loads of space. The flat was wonderful- the BEST beds ever! You will sleep like a baby in Sarah's place! Just a word of caution to our North American friends- the flat is considered 2nd floor in Britain, but to us it is the 3rd.
We traveled light so it was not a problem for us- but you might want to pack lightly so you can carry your things up the stairs in one go. (that's good for frequent tube and trains too).
All in all it was a fabulous place to stay and I would highly recommend it.
Thanks Kathy. I'm glad you enjoyed yourselves and were comfortable in the flat. In the UK, and in Europe too, we have a Ground Floor and then 1st, 2nd, 3rd etc, so it is a bit confusing for our North American visitors, I guess. For anyone from Canada or the States who is reading this and considering coming to stay, there are two (wide) flights of stairs to the flat and I am always happy to carry heavy luggage up for you!
We had the most wonderful time staying at Sarah's flat in London. The flat was very comfortable and had everything we needed. The beds were wonderful and we slept well. Sarah had some groceries ready for us when we arrived and was the perfect hostess. We were staying on the top floor of Sarah's home, yet we felt we had our own place. The bus stopped right in front of the flat and ran every 4-8 min. Very easy to use the busses and tubes with the 7 day pass. We had five days of hop on hop off bus, but found it much easier to use the public bus/tubes. It was a great location, not far to get anywhere and could easily walk to Tower Bridge and the Thames. Grocery stores within walking distance or a couple bus stops away. ATMs were plentiful and most had no fees. Sarah answered all of our questions and assisted when we needed help with anything. We really liked Sarah and if we hear of friends heading to London we will certainly direct them to Sarah's place. Thank you, Sarah for taking such good care of us!
Appartement spacieux idéal pour deux couples, bien situé (bus + métro à proximité) équipés de lits ultra confortables ! Sarah est très agréable et parle un excellent français. Une adresse à retenir !!
