(Before booking the flat, please read the house rules to make sure the apartment suits your needs.)
Come and stay in my unique London townhouse. A piece of history in trendy Bermondsey, the house dates back to the 1790s.
You will have the entire top floor (2nd floor) of the house (70m2/750 sq. ft) to yourselves. You just share the front door to the house and the stairs. It should feel a bit like staying in a boutique aparthotel! Completely refurbished, but at the same time retaining the original period features, the flat sleeps four people comfortably.
There are two double bedrooms which can be made up with superking size double beds or twin beds as required.
The rear bedroom has a lovely sunny south facing balcony overlooking the gardens below, which is perfect for taking breakfast on or catching the last rays of sun with an early evening drink in summer.
All the beds are new and have pocket-sprung mattresses which should give you a fantastic night's sleep.
The new bathroom is equipped with a bath and shower, soaps, shampoo and towels. The heated towel rail means that the bathroom is always cosy and that your towels are warm and dry.
You have exclusive use of a large, well-equipped, open-plan kitchen/living room with brand new 32 inch television, dishwasher, fridge, gas/electric cooker and oven as well as a stylish and incredibly comfortable sofa to relax on after a hard day’s sight-seeing.
You also have free wifi access.
The flat has its own central-heating system which you can switch on or off as needed. Each radiator has a thermostat meaning that you can control the temperature of every room individually.
I am usually around, a floor or two below, to give advice on places to eat and shop, and to answer any questions you might have. At the same time, you are totally independent on your own floor and can make yourselves completely at home, cook dinner, watch TV or just chill with a book or magazine.
In addition to the above, the flat has a hair dryer, toaster, kettle, iron and ironing board. There is no washing machine in the flat, however, for guests staying longer than 1 week, it is possible to use my washing machine which can be found on the lower ground floor. There is no dryer but I can provide airers for hanging your washing on in the flat. Just ask!
EATING AND DRINKING
You have lots of choice when it comes to places to eat nearby, from “Manze’s”, London’s oldest surviving eel and pie shop, to the famous “Pont de la Tour” with its amazing views of the river and Tower Bridge. You’ll find the award winning Italian restaurant, “Zucca”, and acclaimed tapas bars, “Jose” and "Pizarro", on fashionable Bermondsey Street as well as many other great restaurants, cafes and pubs.
For one of the most exciting views in London, why not go for cocktails in the Atrium Bar on the 31st floor of The Shard? On the other hand, if you prefer to eat at home but are too tired to cook, there’s a fish and chip shop opposite the house. The portions are huge! Or if you like your food a bit spicier, there’s an excellent Indian takeaway just along the street.
You have your own well-equipped kitchen which means that you can cater for yourselves. Borough Market, known as “London’s larder”, is in walking distance and comes to life from Wednesday to Saturday. Here you can find everything from the most delicious British cheeses to fresh fish and game. Other great places to shop for food nearby include the markets on Maltby Street, Spa Terminus and Bermondsey Square which are held on Saturday mornings, all three of which are just a 5 minute walk away. If all that shopping has made you thirsty, you can stop off for a glass or two of natural wine at “40 Maltby Street” and enjoy some delicious seasonal food at the same time. They also sell reasonably priced bottles to take away.
SEE THE SIGHTS
Take a stroll along the banks of the Thames to Tate Modern and Shakepeare’s Globe Theatre, or visit White Cube on Bermondsey Street, the biggest private contemporary art space in Europe. Find out how it feels to look down on London from the tallest building in Europe, The Shard, which has recently opened to the public and is a short walk away at London Bridge.
If you are after some traditional sight-seeing, Tower Bridge and the Tower of London are close by, or take a boat trip down the Thames to historic Greenwich or upstream to Westminster Abbey and the Houses of Parliament.
Buses stop every few minutes just in front of the house
The Number 1 takes you to the West End and its theatres and shops in 30 minutes. It also runs every 30 minutes throughout the night.
The 78 goes to super-trendy Shoreditch and London's main business quarter, the City, via Tower Bridge (10 minutes) and Liverpool Street station (20 minutes).
Bermondsey underground station is on the Jubilee line and is a 10 minute walk away. It’s just two stops to the business district of Canary Wharf, four stops to Westminster and six stops to Bond Street which can be reached door to door from the house in about 30 minutes.
BED LINEN AND CLEANING
Bed linen and towels are provided. Weekly cleaning and linen change for stays of over a week.
I'm afraid that no extra guests can be accommodated. The maximum number of people who can stay at one time is 4.
***If the dates you need are already booked, I have a lovely, newly renovated, studio apartment to rent at the same address which sleeps two people - either one superking bed or twin singles, as required. You can find it on airbnb at: https://www.airbnb.co.uk/rooms/1088930 ***

We had a wonderful stay at Sarah's apartment, situated on the Southbank of the Thames not too far away from Tower Bridge. The apartment was clean, comfortable and more than complete. We especially enjoyed the good beds, after walking through town all day! Sarah's tip to visit Borough Market and Bermondsey St, both within walking distance, were great. We would never have guessed how much fun that is without her advice! Hope to return again soon.
Accueil chaleureux,hote sympathique
Herzlichen Dank an Sarah!
Sarah is an ideal host. We arrived during the Underground strike and Sarah was very helpful in suggesting routes for each of the four of us coming from four different places. We felt very comfortable in the apartment and appreciated all the little touches to make us feel welcome. We enjoyed the locality, the cafes etc on Bermondsey Street (10 mins walk), Borough 'Foodie' Market (20 mins walk) and found it very easy to get about by public transport.
We were always happy to come 'home' to the apartment.
Thank you very much Sarah.
I booked this apartment to offer a weekend in London to my parents.
The reception and responsiveness of Sarah and her impeccable French, allowed them to have a good stay.
The apprtement is spatieux, very well maintained.
Do not hesitate!
Sarahs home was such a wonderful first experience of airbnb, she was so friendly and helpful. The place was beautiful, very clean and many nice personal touches, the busstop is right outside the door. Sarah was a very kind and attentive host and we definitely would recommend his flat to others!
This was a really lovely place to stay in London - a great location with bus stop just out the front, tube station about 10 minutes walk away and a variety of good restaurants within walking distance. The apartment itself was great - clean, quiet, comfortable, well presented and in a lovely area. Sarah is very helpful and was always available to answer questions as well as recommend places to eat at or to visit. We really enjoyed our 8 days here and recommend it very highly.
This is a very comfortable and cozy apartment. We were four people and had a great time. The apartment is conveniently located close to a bus stop and a 10 minute walk to the subway. Sarah is the perfect host, communication went swift, and she even offered us to do some groceries for breakfast. We strongly recommend!
Sarah is a splendid guest, the flat is more beautiful than in the pictures, the connections with Center London are perfect and the near market is lovely. But the thing that I miss more is the bed, never found a so confortable one, neither at home. When I will return to London for sure I will ask Sarah to host all of us again.
