Wake up to sunrise over Lake Superior and later sauna as the moon rises over the lake
The Love Shack is ideal if you love the outdoors, privacy and want time away from the busy world. The views are incredible, trees majestic, starry nights magical, quiet deep and the cliff face is breathtaking. The cliff is serious; we leave an unmown area along the cliff to caution visitors from visiting the cliff edge.
No humming electricity, beckoning internet, indoor plumbing- just you in this majesty.
The space
The Love Shack sits on a three acre wooded property with 500 front feet of dramatic 50 ft cliffs dropping to the crystal colors of Lake Superior. Three small buildings will be yours during your stay:
The tiny house is mostly glass, comprised of a roomy bed/sitting room with a propane heater and a large screened in porch (the building is 385 square feet total). The queen sized bed and love seat face east to the lake for the sunrise and moonrise views.
A log cabin propane fired sauna, with views of the lake, is tucked into the woods, 20 feet from the glass tiny house. A sliding glass door invites you to relax into the warming heat of the sauna while gazing out at the trees and the breathtaking views of the lake.
A vaulted pit toilet is in the third small building.
There is no kitchen and no water supply; a gas grill, propane single burner stove, and cooler will support your cooking needs. You may want to bring your own familiar cookstove. Cookware and water containers are not provided.
The outdoor space is vast, with a fire pit, outdoor chairs, a picnic table and plenty of directions to face and/or explore. Bring in local firewood; feel free to leave what you don't use for the next guests.
There is no direct access to the lake from this property.
Despite the fresh winds of Lake Superior, our renowned UP bugs may come calling, so bring your favorite bug protections.
The Love Shack is simple- no electricity nor running water; bring lanterns, headlamps or whatever lighting you'd like, bring water for cooking and cleaning and ice for the cooler.
We are new owners of the Love Shack which has been an AirBnB favorite for years. Following are all of the reviews from the past couple of years:
November 2021
This place is the best off grid stay ever. We just went for part of our honeymoon trip, and it was so incredible. The views are so amazing! The heater works great, nice and warm even when it was snowing outside. It’s definitely worth the dirt roads to get to it! and we’ll be back to this spot that’s for sure!!
October 2021
The ultimate cabin in the woods. Such amazing views and a very beautiful area of Michigan. Many different day hikes. Or just time to relax around the fire or in the sauna.
October 2021
Its camping with heat and a sauna and a view worth any price! If you need an escape this is it!
October 2021
You might want to bring your own cooking stuff to make sure you have what you need.
Great place. Comfy bed and sitting room. Bring more lights if you want to play cards or games after dark.
This was a fresh breath of off-the-grid air. The view was amazing, even with cooler temps it was still pretty warm in the cabin and we didn’t use the heater as one might have thought, given so many windows. We did warm up in the sauna, which was very easy to operate. Views for miles, star-lit skies opened up to beautiful sunrises. This was a must-visit if you like getting away from
the hustle and bustle! Staying at this airbnb was an incredible experience. It is remote and off grid. Directions to the cabin were explicit and we had no trouble finding it. The roads leading to the cabin are upgraded and easy to travel. As we drove down the driveway to the cabin, there was an eagle soaring back and forth over the shore line. An auspicious welcoming! I am in love with Lake Superior, having lived in the area for many years, and missing it always. So, this was a treat to be RIGHT on the lake with a 180 degree view of the water! We were so fortunate to have the entire week of the most fabulous weather. Every morning was a stunning sunrise. We could literally open our eyes from bed and see the sunrise! At night, the stars were also BIG and present........if I woke up and opened my eyes, I could see the display of stars without even getting up. We enjoyed a few days of just BEING in the presence of the Big Lake, and felt every tension in the world lift away. We were also close to waterfalls, hikes, bike rides and close enough to get into Marquette or Big Bay for supplies. We enjoyed a couple of saunas while there, which was so pleasant. The cabin is on a 50 ft cliff, and is about 20 feet from the edge, so we do think, this is not the place to have children, dogs, or anyone who might not be very aware of the danger of the cliff. That said, we had no problem with it, and we felt like we were in a tree house over the enormous body of
water. The owner was extremely attentive in his communication with us, if we had any questions at all, prior to our stay and after arriving. He recommended that we prepare for our trip, as if we were camping, and I am glad he suggested that. We brought plenty of our own water and minimal pots and pans and a teapot. There are some pans there and a coffee percolator. We had simple meals, used paper plates, and had minimal clean up. There is propane heat in the main cabin which was very comfy, although it was not very cold while we were there. The entire area and buildings are extremely well maintained and exceptionally clean!
My husband and I hope to return to “The Love Shack” next year, and hope to make this a yearly tradition! If you are ok with being off grid and using one of the cleanest and nicest out houses I’ve ever seen, I think you too will love this place! Much gratitude for providing this exceptional airbnb!!
Overall the place was nice. The listing says it’s 20 miles from Marquette. It should also note that it’s 35 minutes away from Marquette as that’s more relevant than the distance. Also - bring your own water, there were several jugs of water there but they seemed to be left over from previous guests.

Bring a couple frying pans, a tea kettle, some breakfast foods to cook over the gas and you’re set! We stayed three nights here and explored Marquette, Copper Harbor, and enjoyed lazy mornings at the shack. Will return

Absolutely amazing
July 2021
Excellent and even more beautiful in person! The perfect getaway for a relaxing vacation and close enough to get around and explore the area.
June 2021
I was worried about ticks and mosquitos. I left my stay with only one bug bite and zero ticks! My dog and I thoroughly enjoyed our time and will absolutely make an effort to return here again!!
June 2021
Great location and perfect view! Sunrises were incredible. Cabin was comfortable..
June 2021
A little slice of heaven. Beautiful location. Not everyone’s cup of tea if you can’t deal with no electricity or running water, but we had a fabulous time despite that! You learn to be creative and adventurous! Would stay here again in a heartbeat!
June 2021
Best view ever!!! Will be coming back for sure!!! Paddle boarding there was insane!! loved it!!
May 2021
The view is absolutely breathtaking! We had a great time! We will definitely be back!
May 2021
The only problem is instructions to the cabin, how to check-out, work the gas, etc. could be clearer. Regardless, it was such a beautiful place. It was definitely a good place to relax and escape the world. If you go in May, beware of LOTS of flies, ticks
May 2021
The views of Lake Superior from this place are incredible. A perfect spot to disconnect and relax, and also in a convenient location to explore different activities in and around
Marquette.
May 2021
Our stay was incredible, we could not have asked for a better place to start our vacation.
We were able to relax with a stunning view and a quiet you’re unable to experience anywhere else. We will definitely be back!
May 2021
Best place ever to go to for privacy, peace and quiet, anniversaries etc. We're definitely going again
Aug 2022
Be prepared to cancel your actual plans because once you get here, you won't be leaving until check-out. The shack is a shack and has many quirks. The compost toilet was the best I've seen and really appreciate the cleanliness. The views are breathtaking. Hope to make this an annual trip -- thanks for making us slowdown!
Aug 2022
This place is unreal! We enjoyed relaxing on the property after our adventures to pictured rocks and Marquette. Was close enough to the attractions and far enough that we felt like the only people on the planet! Stars were incredible, bed was cozy, environment was top notch. Bring enough drinking water, there is none on site. Overall 10/10!
Aug 2022
Can’t say enough about the beauty of this location. A total get away, if you don’t mind the no electricity and water (just takes planning ahead). The sunrises are breathtaking. It’s our annual just us get away.
July 2022
The Loveshack, a quintessential Marquette Michigan getaway. If you don’t mind being off grid or an avid camper this is the place for you!! The cabin is the perfect size for a lovers quarrel, clean, quiet and beautiful! The sunrise is worth the easily rise, views for days. Would recommend extra lights if you intend on using the screen porch at night, we used solar powered lights. Worked like a charm! About 40 minutes to downtown Marquette which is loaded with wonderful breweries and restaurants. 10/10 would recommend and likely to visit The Loveshack again! Thank you so much!
July 2022
Great place. Stunningly beautiful and peaceful. Very helpful to have access to the grill, camp stove, coolers, and sauna. The vault toilet was very clean. We hope to make a return visit.
July 2022
My 3rd trip back and the love shack never disappoints! Thanks again for having us
June 2022
This place is awesome! The view is incredible and just a short drive to some really awesome hikes. We went to Marquette and Pictured Rock National Lakeshore for day trips and it was the perfect place to have as a home base. We really enjoyed the sauna and the screened in porch.
Our first day was very buggy, as to be expected in the woods. But we loved hanging out on the porch so we could still enjoy the weather and view without the bugs. We hope to come back again!
June 2022
Such a fun stay! The listing and previous reviews do a good job of letting you know all of the things to bring.
The sauna was wonderful touch!
The bugs in June were a lot, so be prepared if you come in the summer, but we spent most of our evenings in the screened in porch and had a wonderful time!
Tons of good hikes nearby, and just a short drive to Marquette for restaurants or any supplies.
June 2022
Great stay with a beautiful view, kayaking close by and tons of hiking trails.
June 2022
The sauna didn't work, and there weren't clear instructions written anywhere about how to access the pilot light (if that was the problem). We scrupulously avoided water on the rocks, as instructed, so we don't know what the problem was. Communicating about this was difficult due to the lack of cell service in that spot. When we did alert our hosts, they were very responsive, but then...nobody came to trouble-shoot that night, or first thing in the morning. Our enjoyment was dampened quite a bit by this.
Despite the sauna disappointment, it's a fantastic location, there were a pair of falcons (we think) nesting nearby. Good grill and water-boiling options, and nice big coolers provided. I discovered a new sport: bug zapping with the little tennis racket thingy. Bring plenty of bug spray. There are lots of helpful items in the bedroom cupboard, including plates, cups, silverware. Pro tip if you are arriving around suppertime and don't want to cook right away: pre-order some delicious jambalaya from Lagniappe in Marquette and enjoy it with your beer or g&t while you enjoy the beauty of the place.
June 2022
This place is a fantastic off-grid getaway to disconnect from the modern world and enjoy/connect with nature! Close enough to Marquette that you can spend a day exploring there as well!
June 2022
The love shack was a great stay for my wife and I. The mosquitoes were a little over powering this time of year but aside from that everything was great!
May 2022
Beautiful piece of property!
