Adrienne was welcoming and kind -the instructions to enter the apartment were easy.
The pictures were a little deceiving and a lot of random things around the apartment need to be fixed (light bulbs, leaky fridge, really squeaky shower knobs, bathroom fan noise, metal sticking out of bed frame). I slept on the pull out couch which was fine but could not find any pillows for me -had to steal from master bedroom, and the sheets did not seem very clean. Just a few little things that were annoying.
Great location and pretty quiet street for DC.
Would probably not stay here again but overall, it was OK.
What a shame that you were not won over by the charm of our apartment. We certainly would have provided new bed linen had we known you were unhappy. Also, the free washer and dryer could have been useful. We certainly clean all sheets and towels before each guest arrives. As for pillows, we put extra in the bedroom because they will not all fit on the couch. We will look into your other complaints - squeaky shower knobs and bathroom fan noise? Our goals are to improve the apartment for the next guests.
All the best to you!
Quirky and comfortable little apartment extremely close to the Convention Centre and supermarket which was a huge bonus. Adreinne was very welcoming and responded to questions quickly. Had a great stay in Washington!
Adreinne was an excellent host who prepared me well and assisted during my stay. The apartment is very cosy and worked well for me, being only a blocks from a supermarket, and a couple of blocks from the metro and the convention centre. I would not hesitate to recommend this property.
Overall, given the price this is a good find. (Rated 4 stars in light of price). Nothing to write home about, but warm, safe and with the amenities you need. Could definitely be nicer but again, for the price, very reasonable.
Access was sufficient with a key box and let-yourself-in approach as expected. The apartment is in pretty decent shape with a generally clean setting. The bathroom is clean but no frills. BYO toiletries. Kitchen had everything you need to cook. Bed was good. The linen situation is okay but I found sheets that had been in the wash for days (they smelled) and had to put them in the dryer to do a load for myself. The pull-out mattress is not comfortable to sleep on and did not look like it was particularly clean either. Would not recommend it for sleeping. The back room where the bed is could use some insulation. Again, not terrible, but room for improvement.
Host was contacted during stay for ice on the stoop which was attended to that day and she explained that they were trying to get better at laundry. Good attention during stay.
The host's attitude towards guests in the listing with instructions is a bit off-putting. While paying a cleaning fee, I feel like I can expect the trash to be taken out and dishes washed.
Nothing terrible and if you're on a budget, this will be a very reasonable find by the convention center. Not a hotel replacement.
I had a great experience with this space. Everything was clean and comfortable. The location is excellent if you are attending an event at the Convention Center (which I was - a 3min walk to the main entrance), or just want convenient metro system access.
The apartment itself shows it's age a bit, but everything works and for the price you shouldn't be expecting the Marriott. For a two person 8-day stay, an apartment with full kitchen, living room, etc is much nicer than a standard hotel room in any case!
We didn't have cause to contact Adrienne much aside from the reservation itself, but the apartment was ready when we got there with towels and linens provided, and she was friendly, responsive by text/email and provided all the necessary information for us to get in and enjoy our stay.
We enjoyed the apartment, especially the location and the atmosphere. We felt safe even at night. It is really close to a big supermarket and close to the metro. We liked the style of the apartment, but there are quite a few items in need of repair, such as the towel rack, the kitchen faucet and a curtain rod. We were in need of more linens, sent an email and received a quick response. Overall it was okay for us.
For the price, I expected a modest apartment, so the place met those expectations. I chose it to be close to the Convention Center, where I was spending most of my time, and it is convenient for that. However, I had several issues with the place:
1) No towels when I checked in (no paper towels either); when I called the host, she told me to go to the laundry room to get them out of the dryer. To get to the dryer I had to literally climb on top of a giant pile of laundry to get to the vertically stacked dryer. While the towels were clean, they had bleach stains and were shredding on the ends.
2) I thought the above was kooky, but then she called me the next night late and asked me to deliver towels to another apartment downstairs! I suggested the other guests come to pick them up, which they never did.
3) The apartment was in disrepair - bathroom towel rack on the floor, kitchen faucet literally falling off, food encrusted on kitchen table, loose planks in living room floor, silver fish in living room and bathroom.
4) There is very little light outside, which made it difficult to get into the lockbox to get the key and to get in and out of the building at night. Also, the locks to the building are very difficult to turn and hard to figure out.
5) While the apartment is billed as "quirky" and "charming," the strange configuration is hard to get used to. The light for the very steep stairs up to the apartment is at the top of the stairs, so it's kind of dangerous when hauling up luggage in the dark. The bedroom light is outside the bedroom. The bathroom is across the apartment. There is a small step down from the kitchen to the living room that can cause problems when you're not expecting it.
In summary, I cannot recommend this apartment. If you are on an extreme budget and willing to put up with the above inconveniences, perhaps it is the place for you. I do not normally leave bad reviews, but felt it was important for people to understand what comes along with this apartment.
We're sorry that you did not enjoy your stay. This is our home and not a hotel, so occasionally clean towels will be left drying in the laundry room. Thanks for folding them, however we did need the extras for the apartment downstairs. We will be stocking up on new towels and linen this Winter.
We would have loved the opportunity to address your issues with the place, if you had let us know during your stay. My handyman is a phone call away and he can and will fix the towel rack and loose faucet (minor repairs).
There is actually a light at the bottom of the stairwell (on the left as you enter the apartment). You must have missed it.
In terms of outdoor lighting: We have path lights leading to the front door, which are solar powered. We will take a look at these to make sure that they are working properly.
Certainly, the issues you described above are easy fixes and do NOT equal "disrepair". Perhaps this just was not a good fit. Thanks for your feedback.
All the best to you.
